I like excellent games as much as the next person. Much like watching an amazing movie, or reading an engrossing book, a great game is something worth hanging on to, talking about, playing again, etc.
Reading through this website though I get the image of a bunch of angry cynical people sitting on their couch playing the same 3 games from the late 90s over and over again. Sure, not every game can be a perfect infallible classic game, but does that really mean we should ***** and moan every time a game comes out that is merely "fun". *GASP*
I do like a game that has some innovative new mechanic, or unparalleled customization and story, but sometimes don't you just wanna sit down and watch stuff blow up? Or hack and slash slightly different mindless zombies?
I guess I just have a hard time thinking that so many people on this forum actually found no enjoyment from the games they claim.
I can't think of a game example at the moment, but recently I've read a few books that I wouldn't call "great" or "classic" by any stretch, but they kept me entertained throughout, and that was that.
The question:
What are some games that while not innovative, perfect, or a sign from above, were still a lot of fun?
edit: A touchy lot today aren't we? This was definitely not meant to be insulting, I don't think anyone can deny that "this game isn't innovative" is a common complaint on any gaming site. Just looking for the 'guilty pleasures'
