Do you have any good ideas for video games? You could put just a basic plotline, or you could put down an elaborate list of every detail in the game.

Mine?

Name: Evolutionist
Idea: You start out breeding two real animals, and you control which animals breed, eventually creating a sentient species.
Why: Because it'd be a fun tool to play with. Like, imagine creating a sentient bipedal species of beaver. That'd be fucking cool.

Any ideas?

^Better, or at least more realistic, than Spore.

To be fair, I had this idea before I even heard of Brutal Legend (how do you get an umlaut in here?): a mixed action/RTS game in a similar style to the aforementioned. I called it SnoQuest and it was largely based on snowball fights and winter-time culture, I guess is the best way to describe it. You can play several characters, each of them having different abilities I won't get into here, and you can go on missions specifically for individual characters or choose your own :D

Your game sounds like a cross between Evo: The Search for Eden, and Sim Earth -- two awesome old SNES games.

edit: my post is regarding the OP.

Cool double post, bro. :D

I have ideas frequently. One of my more favorite ideas involves a classic RE-type survival horror game set in a ruined old fort by the ocean.

There'd be 5 or so characters, each with their own reasons for being there. One would be there on a dare, one would be doing field research, and one might just be sightseeing. Either way, it all goes downhill when the only exit caves in and everyone is trapped inside. At first, the enemies you encounter would consist of the animals that have started living in the fort, like bees (one character would be allergic) and crocodiles. As the game advances, the enemies become more psychological. The ghosts of soldiers who died in the fort would start coming out. I haven't worked out the finer details of the story yet, but eventually, it'll turn out that there is some seriously bad mojo brewing at the fort, and the characters would have to put a stop to it. Each character would have their own way of dealing with it, and they would each have a unique angle on the story. It'd be laid out in a way so that each character experiences more or less the same main plot points, but each one has different pieces of the minor plot points that only make sense when everyone's stories are put together. I'm sort of picturing a cross between the atmospheric terror of Silent Hill and the stark surrealism of Killer 7.

Shadowrun MMO.

Heavily faction-based, character improvement in the hands of the players (i.e PC control over what skills and attributes to improve), and improvement would unlock missions in new zones.

So, if you wanted to improve your mageès strength and firearms - Go ahead. And feel free to visit the corp. enclaves. Pull a gun and the NPCs would drop you quick.

PvP would be handled as gang warfare in the Barrens.

(Any designers reading this - PLEASE steal this idea! ;-)

I would make a game for "The Brave Little Toaster." One of the greatest cartoon movies of my childhood.

Lemme see. Many of them, actually.

- An FPS-RTS hybrid where one team is composed of specialist classes, and other controls sizeable forces in strategic mode.

- An RTS inspired by Brütal Legend, starring various musical genres as factions.

- Diablo-type RPG set in World War 2 or some variation of it. You control a squad of German soldiers, and the highlight is a moral choice system: would you rather be loved by your commanders or respected by local people?

And that's only three of the ideas existing now. There were also many discarded ones.

By the way, there is a group dedicated to this sort of thing, but no-one even posts there anymore.

Yes. I'm an aspiring game designer, of course I have ideas. On of them I call River. It is a concept for an action RPG that effectively bars me from enjoying any RPG ever. Every game gets compared to what River could be, and it never measures up. Not exactly the healthiest of viewpoints, but there it is. River was an original Pen/Paper RPG ruleset that I started working on when I got bored with DnD as it was too simple and not fluid enough. When I realized that the underlying mechanics would work better in real-time, I switched the design to be a computer game. These days, the mechanics are nearly unrecognizable from the original.

I've also got a couple of interesting ideas of the 3rd-person adventure/sandbox variety, a good number of straight-up "artsy" game concepts, a rather intense "nanobot simulation" concept, a recreation of "Evil Genius" with different base design features, a game-based re-imagining of the Matrix environment, and a game about ninjas that is actually about ninjas and what they could do.

Seriously, I could keep talking. I have a HUGE collection of random game ideas.

I have a few. An FPS where you fight in one of the last settlements of mankind, besieged by zombies. Only head shots kill, supplies are scarce, and once the fort is overrun you have to make it to the coast, oh and while you can dodge attacks you only have one hitpoint. (Also, you need to eat food and sleep while you are playing other wise you either starve or go kind of insane.)

The other is a survival horror game, like Dead Space but good. You are landing on a star ship to visit your family the ship looks decent (Bright corridors, fountains, strategic plant life)
But the way the people are acting seems a bit off. As you are on the elevator you are attacked by a deranged mechanic, you blast off his arm but he regenerates it, and it is stronger with a different design. (Like a claw or hammer) You run like hell, and finally get to the central plaza where your family waits. A voice taunts you as your wife and children attack you. No matter how badly you destroy them they just regrow the damaged body part and make it stronger. (Occasionally include a different design so as opposed to a hand you get a sickle.) You escape, but the rest of the ship has gone insane, everyone is trying to kill you, the ship is getting torn the hell up, and the more you fight the stronger they become. You send for help and try to uncover the route of the problem and survive until transport arrives. (Left out the plot.)

Finally the third is a good old fashioned alien killing FPS (No space marines though.) An alien ship crashes on Earth, the bug like monsters attack reproduce quickly and in a few weeks have overrun the Americas... Okay it is the Zerg versus humanity essentially, but with a slightly deeper plotline, and a lovely set up for a sequel.

An MMO Survival game set in an endless 'infected' fictional city.
Played in FPS mode, optional to switch to 3rd person.
There a few RPG elements, but it comes in STATS and Classes, so someone can't be good at everything.
Free roam, wandering monsters.

By day you go around, scavenging supplies, looking to places to hide out, barricade, ect.
- Hostiles will still be around.

By night,
- Hostile monsters become more active, begin tracking and hunting people down. Players can become infected and attack survivors also.

It's not very original, i know. It gets better, but I can't be arsed to type it all down.

The FPS-RTS thing. There was a game a few years ago that did that.
Was it multiplayer, with class division on FPS side? If yes, then i totally stole someone else's idea without realizing it.

No idea. All I heard about it was that it 1 player was in the field, while the other was controlling the rest with RTS gameplay.
Well in my concept, FPS side fights RTS side. It's essentially like any single-player shooter for FPS side (they are overpowered, but enemies come in ridiculous numbers).

A few years ago I had an idea for a standard FPS that used squirt guns instead of bullets. There's such a variety of them that it would be hard to get old. Instead of armor, you pick up progressively better rain gear. instead of health packs, you get towels(which make sense that it would heal you instantly). Instead of grenades, there's water balloons (and 3-man slingshots for artillery). Instead of turrets, garden hoses and kitchen sink sprayers (unlimited ammo actually makes sense here). Pressure washers as a replacement for flamethrowers. Umbrellas for shields (that might be a little too much). Swimming pools instead of lava. You know that part of Gears 2 where you have to move from cover to cover to keep from being killed by hail? I came up with the exact same thing years ago, only it was just normal rain. Come on, they made a Nerf game; why not do something similar with Super Soaker?

I don't really know what I would call it, and admittedly this would probably be better off as a comic book idea, but I think it could make a decent stealth/action game as well. I have this idea for a super-hero that involves shadow-based powers. Basically, he can become a shadow, change his body density, and kind of teleport around dark areas. (There's more to that last one than that, but that would require a lot of explaining)

While it's still mostly an idea for a new super-hero, it would still work as a stealth game. And of course, he can use his power to fight as well which could make a good game when combined with the stealth.

Now all I need to do is think up a name for this guy that hasn't already been used. Curse you, Shadow the Hedgehog!

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to many to list on one web page. Here's one that just happens to come to mind.

One is based on a man who everytime he goes to sleep he is transported to a parrallel dimension in which technology have overtaken humanity. Out of a miscommunication, the protagonist is dragged over into the world. Basically for the time he is asleep he remains in the alternate world. Wherever you choose to rest in the real world (withing the realms of the game) would correspond with where you appeared in the parrallel dimension. In the alternate earth, it takes on a grittier comic book style (see Waltz with Basheer for a good idea of it) and the combat would focused on a stylized gore combat. A variety of guns developed from SMG's and Shotguns to guns that rip enemy limbs of and launch them as explosives. All of this would be made to take advantage of a variety of freakish characters ranging from basic psychos with guns to enemies with four tentacle arms and ones that can teleport. This combined with the hopes of developing a more realistic damage system where every part of the enemy reacts uniquely and certain parts of an enemy might show more weakness and blasting of certain parts of others creates dismemberment effects.

I spend too much time on these ideas.

I have an idea for a game where you have to play as a mook. Instead of storming a base by yourself, you go with a hundred soldiers. Instead of sneaking through a building, you locate an infiltrator. You would have limited weapons and abilities compared to the "heroes" and you'd have to work with your squad to survive.

In multiplayer, it could be like 5 vs 1 where the 5 are standard soldiers and the 1 is a stereotypical "hero." Each map could be limited to one or two gametypes, like TF2- the hero storms the base, the hero infiltrates the base, the hero escapes a prison, the hero hunts the mooks, ect. Other team sizes could be 10 vs 2 and the like, where teamwork becomes very important for both teams- the soldiers could be overpowered when in small groups, and the heroes could be overwhelmed if confronted by 10 opponents at once.

No MMO's!
Total Warrior games, based around many different Era's of warfare.
Ah Total Warrior games, I should be picking Spartan: Total Warrior up tomorrow if EB Games have the copy.

Honestly too many ideas to mention, most of which are RPGs but I have a few other genre ideas as well.
