Hello Escapist,
I recently revived an old pc. re-installing os and such. And I'm now using it to record some of my songs, listen to music and watch movies. But I would also like to use it to play some games. And I want to be able to use my wireless game-pad as controller without to much trouble.
Specs of my Pc:
-Intel P4 @ 3.00 Ghz
-1 Gig Ram
-128 mb Graphics

So the challenge for you would be to find a game that can be controlled with a game-pad and will run on my machine.
Looking forward to some suggestions.

Hal Life 2,
Counter Strike Source
Day of defeat Source

Battlefield 1942
Battlefield Vietnam

Off the top of my head that's all that springs to mind, but I'm not much good with things other than shooters. Is your gpu integrated or seperate? If it's integrated a seperate gpu will get you a good boost in performance for about the cost of a new game.

I suppose it's possible that there is some software that can interpret the gamepad as key strokes. I seem to relcall reading something along those lines in a Super Meat Boy thread somewhere.

But if that doesn't exist then RAK is right.

Aside from that, most older PC games are not really designed to work well on anything but mouse and keyboard. I imagine playing them with a pad would be an exercise in frustration.

I was gonna suggest Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind, too bad you want gamepad compatible games.

- Resident Evil 3 or 4 perhaps?

Can't you just re-map the controls on the controller to keyboard keys, and not have to worry about game compatibility?

Perhaps your going about it the wrong way. Instead of looking to find a game that has built in gamepad support, try using a program like Xpadder or Joytokey that allows you to map the gamepad however you want to.

Perfect example, Ive managed to map System shock 2 as well as Deus Ex fairly well to a 360 controller via xpadder.

Even games that are mouse driven like say diablo or age of empires, can be mapped if you are patient enough to do something like let an analog stick act as mouse control. Not saying its great or even recommendable, but it CAN be done, and it can be made playable.

Seems a lot less limiting going that route.

I believe you accidentally wrote Source instead of 1.6, might want to fix that, otherwise OP might end up buying the inferior version of the game.

Duke Nukem 3D, you can buy it of GOG.
Or if you dont like it there are heaps of other games on GOG that are awesome.

Now let's not get into that merry go round.

But it's worth noting that the older versions of all the Source shooters will also work and are dead cheap now, as well as having big player bases. So they're certainly worth a go.

If your into the RTSs then I would easily suggest Warcraft 3 (RoC and FT). THere is also an old game called Praetorians, an RTS which clashes Romans, barbarians and Egyptians together in battle. I'm not sure if that one has any one online anymore like WC3 does but it's still a good game, especially with lan battles if they are available.

lol. For me, a distinguishing feature of PC gaming that separates it from the console is that you have to be just slightly less lazy to play on a PC. One of the many reasons I feel PCs are superior platforms to consoles.

Devs didn't port from the gamecube, devs ported to the gamecube. The console flopped pretty epic (still like melee..... >.<)
