Game with the best character creation (aesthetic) options?

Star Trek Online has by far the best character creator of any game I've ever seen. Unfortunately it's about the only really great thing about the game. I literally downloaded and installed the game, created a character, played for half an hour, and uninstalled the game

Sainst Row 3 Is definely one I look towards, everyone praises teh shit out of SR2 but to me every creation just looks ugly in some way. I was tinkering with my custom character in SR2 for three years and was never statisfied with the outcome, but I got a character I liked in SR3 (and 4) with the demo creator.

I could give little shit for Layers when all together they don't amount to anything nice looking.

EVE Online has the best character creator I've ever used, one that I actually can make a good looking character pretty easily, and they don't look weird.
And the general way you work it is revolutionary in of itself, you craft your character with the mouse, you don't use slides.

I never cared much for the Saints Row character creator, sure it gives you a lot of opinions, but unimpressive graphics and the fact that by default it makes everyone look kinda weird, makes it lacking in appeal to me.

I personally love WoW's as of Mists of Pandaria. Too many people have said Saints Row 2 so me praising it too would be a waste of time. You pick your race, gender and look from pre-determined things which generally look nice. What I like most about it is the little descriptions you get of each decision you make to the 'pre-set' parts such as your race, class and other additional info like history/racial abilities. You also see a 'preview' of what your class looks like when you click on each one which I enjoy. Individual races get extras like Night Elves get markings, Draenei and Tauren have horn styles, Undead have the option to be jawless. Oh yes, and if you play a Gnome please go to the Barber shop (which allows you to change near enough everything except facial expression) and look at how many anime/manga style hairdos their are. Admittedly throwing 'anime' and 'manga' as descriptors is a mistake because of broad variety, but that's what they remind me of. There's also the Transmogrification system which allows you to change your character's gear to look like something else yet retaining the same stats.

interesting choice there its pretty extensive.

id recomend giving it another try this time with the romulan faction. the story is alot better written than the federation or klingons
I'm just not a Star Trek fan. I never watched the show so I know nothing about the lore. I honestly only played it because I love character creators and heard Total Biscuit talk about STO having a really extensive one. He wasn't lying.

Well, I greatly enjoyed the character creation for Guitar Hero World Tour. Made my dream rocker in his lazy hairdo and leather jacket. Lotsa fun tinkering to get his wardrobe just right.

Saints Row 2.

Nothing, from RPG to MMO, has ever come CLOSE to competing with it. And that's just the *creation* at game start - if you include all the clothes and various looks you can pull off (shirt tucked in or not, buttoned or not, hats worn at different angles, every piece of clothing having multiple colored areas) it's far and away the most expansive character creation in any video game, without comparison.

Dont really play a lot of MMOs so i dont come across many character customisation games

Im going a little outside the box but earlier editions of NFS (carbon definately had the most detail just a shame it was a poor game) and the later midnight club games have some really detailed customisation. I know its not specifically your character but car enthusiasts you can get attached to specific cars as much as RPG fans can get attached to an elf or a warlock

Edit: spore had a great creature creator. I downloaded it for free and had more fun making them than i would actually playing the game

Saints row 2, and WWE games, pretty much, as others have said. I've no recllection of seeing a game do it better. The detail potential is really quite high.

Way of the Samurai series is worth mentioning, though for the accessory system alone. You can pick accessories, and place them on your character in pretty much what ever fashion you want, even if they're floating off, or clipping into your character. Adjusting XYZ axis, size, and such.
That's on top of the ability to pick heads, hair, bodies, clothes, swords (which an entirely diffirnet level of customization), and gender.

Saint's Row.

Probably still SR2 actually, because although some of the face fiddling has improved, SR2 has best dressup.

I mean I need to be able to specify the exact jaunty angle my bright purple top hat is worn at. To go with the assless chaps and fishnets.

The new Klingon story missions they added in LOR are on par with the Romulan missions. Its the other areas that the Klingons struggle.

My vote goes to Aion

The biggest time sink in that game was aesthetic customization.

Most people spent a good 30 minutes to an hour just creating their first character.. so many sliders and colours and shapes and styles.

And then after that you get into armor and weapon re-skinning and dyeing, which you will inevitably switch up every 2 days because of all the amazing skins available.

Every single character in that game looked unique, I never found anyone who looked just like me, or even close to me for that matter, which is a remarkable feat considering that you're all the same 'race' on your faction (2 factions, Elyos FTW).

I haven't before or since seen such great character creation and customization, nor have I played a game with a more enjoyable method of character customization.

It's been mentioned before, but City of Heroes/Villains was one of the best dress-up simulators in recent history, especially since you could unlock various bits and bobs through lore missions. Although the facial customization wasn't on the level of a Bioware RPG, it still had a huge variety of faces, and you could still fiddle with the dimensions. SR2 might have the advantage on body dimensions and face customization, but City of Heroes blew literally every other game out of the water as far as sheer variety of clothing goes (Champions Online can go do naughty adult things to itself).

Meh. Saints Row 2 did nothing for me. Saints Row 3 was fun, and Saints Row 4 was STUPIDLY entertaining.

I've never really understood the Saints Row 2 lobby. I guess I'm just not seeing the appeal.
We're talking the character creator, though.

This is specifically about where you design the LOOK of a character
You have waaaaaaay more options designing the look of a character in 2.

Since we weren't talking about your fun, I don't see how this is relevant.

I played a few EA sports games (Tiger Woods, Fight Night) and was pretty impressed by the character creation. They always end up looking slightly uncanny-valley, but hey, I appreciate the effort...

For a dubious mention, anybody remember Rumble Roses XX? You could change the vascularity of the female wrestlers... sure as hell not my kink, but I'll bet that feature made some people very happy...
