Gamers Rage About Bayonetta 2 on Wii U

Bayonetta 2's Wii U exclusivity has some gamers threatening to "burn Nintendo down."

One of the biggest surprises from Nintendo's slew of announcements yesterday was the fact that Bayonetta 2 was coming exclusively to the Wii U. The sequel to Sega's 2010 game Bayonetta, which was rumored to be canceled, is now being published by Nintendo, though its release date is uncertain. Surely this news should make Bayonetta fans happy, right?

"Let's go burn Nintendo down for getting that exclusive" is one of the nicer Twitter comments about the news that I can post here. Other gamers, who claimed to be fans of Bayonetta and developer Platinum Games, threatened to kill themselves, stating that they were "literally fuming with disappointment." Plenty of tweets just screamed obscenities in Nintendo's general direction, and others begged Platinum to put Bayonetta 2 on a "real" console, because apparently the Wii U is made out of fairy wings and unicorn dust.

It's never pleasant when a game you want comes out for a console you don't own, but the degree of this backlash is kind of surprising. If it was a choice between a Wii U exclusive Bayonetta 2 and no Bayonetta 2 at all, wouldn't the console exclusive be the better option?

It wouldn't be made at all without Nintendo stepping in to publish it. Them's the facts. Don't think you're going to want a Wii U and are mad that you then won't be able to play the game?

And if the games themselves aren't what convince you to buy a console, what is? I mean, I won't be buying a Wii U at least until it meets my 12 game (that I want and that I can't play on a platform I already own) quota, but I'm happy Bayonetta 2 is at least getting made.

Some folks are under the impression that a sequel to Bayonetta was a foregone conclusion, and that Nintendo somehow stopped the game from being released on other consoles and was hogging it all for themselves.

Turns out it's pretty much the opposite. Nintendo's intervention is the reason the game's getting made at all. And I certainly intend to validate the chance that they're taking on this game by buying it, probably as soon as it comes out.

Between this and the Wonderful 101, Platinum is really backing the Wii-U hard right out of the gate. And I couldn't be happier for it.

Fairy wings, unicorn dust, and etch-a-sketch components. Given the choice between Bayonetta-2 for a console I'm not going to own and no Bayonetta-2 I'll take the first option, because at least that way I can watch a playthrough on Youtube, and not need to give a company any of my money that I haven't since the 18-bit era.

Regardless, it's a poor match for Nintendo, which is not going to break the stigma of being for casuals only. It'll be the odd one out, like that game for the Wii with the chainsaw dude. Nintendo has it's niche, it's worked very hard for it's niche, so hard in fact that it's turned into a rut, and it's going to take a lot more than Bayonetta-2 all by itself to dig it out.

No shit.

Although I despise exclusivity, the sequel would probably not exist if not for Nintendo.

It's strange but I never seem to find this "rage" the escapist always reports unless its in this very website. Wonder why.....

holy crap people! stop the presses! this just in: someone on the internet is raging out about something!

but really, the actual story should read "Bayonetta 2 gets picked up again and released as a WiiU exclusive." that's the news, not some kid (no offense kids) complaining online. people complain online about everything! just look at me, complaining (online mind you) about this article. the circle is now complete!

Get the new DMC when it comes out, and while playing it, look up some porn on the internet.

Problem solved.

This is just proof that most nintendo hate is based around some sort of imaginary force then real facts. Nintendo publishe's more "adult" "core" gamer games, people yell at them for stealing it from everyone else. I personally would think people would be happy in putting their money where their mouth is and trying to appear to a more "mature" "core" gamer.

I guess Nintendo can't win.

They don't have good exclusives, so they suck.
They do have good exclusives,... so they suck.

I would like to play Bayonetta 2. I do not want to get a WiiU and I do not see that changeing as I hate motion controls and with the exception of Bayonetta none of the games appeal to me.

Something else I will not do is ***** about it and call for a holy crusade by all true gamers to burn the unholy evil that is Nintendo and their infidel casual gamer's. You know why? I will not do this because I do not have my head up my arse or the mental age of a 4 year old. The stupidity of these people makes me feel very sad.

See. This is why we can't have nice things. Not to mention why people see gamers as whiners and cry babies. When we don't stuff like this it's ok. Then this happens and we get seen as nothing more than people who can't deal with their emotional issues who try and escape through video games and who always want to have their way.

Also. Exclusives are how consoles get moved. Sure I can play Assassin's Creed on Xbox but I can't play Infamous or other Playstations exclusives that interest me more than the Xbox exclusives.

The "outrage" sounds like gibberish. Edifying. No really, if you wanted to be not taken seriously ever again, you would post stuff like: ""I want to kick a dolphin in its (netherparts) hard"". In all caps. Grief.

Sorry, I'm grossed out.

What annoys me able all the rage is that there wasn't - in all likelihood - going to be a Bayonetta 2 until Nintendo stepped in to pick it up. But since it's Nintendo and "they're not for hardcore gamers" any more, this gets a huge amount of rage compared to if Microsoft or Sony.

Well one way or another these "fans" will have to

Given Nintendo's image, and how.. "well" mature themed games, often do on Nintendo's systems, I'm actually interested in seeing how Bayonetta 2 turns out. Seems a bit of catch 22. If Nintendo lets the game go through titally unaltered it's quite possibly not going to sell all that well. if they enforce any obvious content changes to make it more palatable to the typical Nintendo audience they'll just be tagged as meddling mature game killing kiddy content providers.

Of course, I had no interest in all in the first game so I don't really care much how the sequel turns out or what system it comes out on either way.

I only had Nintendo consoles up until I bought a Wii and had nothing worthwhile to play after twilight princess. I sold it, picked up a PS3 and never looked back. Loved Bayonetta for it's combat and would love to play the sequel.

Seeing as most games are multi-platform and will likely be available on my current console, it's likely I'll wait for the next PlayStation/Microsoft consoles to come out and them make my decision.

Hardcore game becomes exclusive to a casual console and gamers become upset.

"We never saw it coming."
Said absolutely no one ever.
