I can understand why people would be frustrated. If The Escapist was planning on ignoring the controversy they should have avoided everything spring from it as if it were the black plague.
Even an attempt at spreading positivity, just because it comes from someone that's apparently involved? Call it what you like, I think it's a nice idea, no matter who is proposing it or why. I don't care. The other thread has ensured that.

OT: Kudos to everyone involved in Dishonored, Rayman 2, Saints Row 4, Terraria and Pixel Piracy. You're the best and your games are the best.

Yes, If you wish not to get involved some much so that you basically black out any media reporting of it on your website then yes you avoid anything that springs from it even if it is an attempt to spread positivity.

The we love game devs hashtag is not going to bring about world peace. Ignoring isn't going to cause any ill-effects.

Well, I sure did love the new Shadow Warrior and Rise of the Triad. Thanks to the fine workers at Devolver Digital for those! Dishonored was an unlikely hit with me as well. That atmosphere, ho boy...

The gesture's nice, and there probably wouldn't be so much freaking out over the article if it didn't have lines like "Twitter puts players in connection with creators and plenty of people use this to lob criticisms and harassment at devs" bit toward the end was not a good idea, since it gives off passive-aggressive (real or imagined doesn't matter) vibe about the whole controversy over journalistic integrity toward everyone who reads the article and has been paying attention this whole week, particularly the deafening silence from the gaming press about the issue.

On-topic:

Hmm... I'd say kudos to Bungie, 343 studios, and the devs behind the Slender games (can't remember their names for the life of me) I suppose. Won't be making any posts to twitter about it though.

I personally would have Sid Meier's babies, but that's just me. Also, the CoH devs probably owe me for all the time they've sucked out of my life.

Seriously I wish this Zoe Quinn BS would just die down. Some insignificant idiocy is poisoning half this site.

I show my appreciation by buying games from companies I enjoy, not by tweeting a empty hashtag.

Most people should do that too.

I would believe this were the case, specifically not reporting on something that might not be true, had the Escapist not done just that back in 2013 when they reported on a story involving Zoe Quinn being harassed with only her word as evidence.
Actually, she had screencaps from the forum. You could say that they're fake, which isn't entirely unfair. I generally presume people are being honest. I assume that Quinn felt harassed by somebody on Wizardchan, and I assume that all the people saying "I didn't see anything" or "I didn't do anything to her" are being honest too - these two things are not incompatable, as well as the fact that "I didn't see nothing" isn't evidence that something didn't happen, which I'll get into in a second.

This time however the accusations are against corrupt game journalist and Zoe Quinn and the person making them has far more evidence then Zoe had and yet...... Radio Silence.
Its quite rare that you can provide evidence that you didn't do something, especially so far into the past. There's really only one real way - prove that you were physically unable to do it. An alibi, stating that you were elsewhere when the event in question took place, is the most common one, and another one is showing that you were physically incapable, ie a disability preventing you from doing something that happened.

Right now, somebody could say to me "Hey, where were you on February 18th 2012 at 4:35 AM?", and if I were incapable of providing an alibi, it wouldn't mean that I'm guilty. Nobody would go "Ah ha! So you DID do it, didn't you!"

I can understand why people would be frustrated. If The Escapist was planning on ignoring the controversy they should have avoided everything spring from it as if it were the black plague.
I certainly would ignore it if I were in charge. Nothing good can come from it/
Two screencaps of someone calling her a **** or whatever it was is hardly news worthy. I am not famous nor am I generally unlikable, but I am am positive that I can find two people from the internet that have called me worse. I guarantee no one is going to run a story about me and how I have suffered from harassment.

It is true that it is hard to prove that you didn't do something. That is why the person making the accusations is suppose to provide the proof. Unfortunately, the trend I am noticing is the individual that cries harassment first is the one that is believed regardless of what proof. Then anyone who brings up honest questions is attacked for it. I hope people can see the irony in that.

Well this thread was a big kick in the cherries.

As someone who actively avoids this kind of controversy, I saw the article and then 50+ comments in the thread. I clicked it expecting people sharing tales of developers they like or have engaged with via social media platforms.

Instead, more of this controversy stuff I so try to stay away from. Sad.

It may be a paper thin attempt to smooth over controversy, I honestly wouldn't know. But I think the idea of reaching out to developers to let them know you appreciate their hard work is a good idea and one I've embraced, even before this handy-dandy hashtag came to light. I fired off some nice words to the folks at Double Fine.

The guys at Wizardchan couldn't disprove their accusations either, yet they never got the benefit of the doubt when this site ran the article in 2013 that made them look like horrible misogynists. It's double standards no matter how you try to slice it.

After a certain amount of time saying nothing becomes a statement unto itself. The silence isn't making the story fade away, it's just further pressurizing it. If they really want to release some of that pressure and try to look impartial they should just write a story objectively covering the facts of the controversy without making any conclusions. People with strong opinions on both sides would still get angry, but at least the site wouldn't look hypocritical.

I love this. All of this. I really do. I'm not willing to get down into the pits and fight about it, but watching it happen makes me happy for some reason.

Burn it all people. Burn it all.

[small]I can't wait to see what trends on twitter next guys. So exciting and interesting. Especially with the Escapist reporting on it.[/small]

So much for the new level of standards Greg Tito promised. I don't love any game Dev. I do appreciate the work of many of them like Stardock, Bioware ( yes even with the Mass Effect 3 ending, everyone makes mistakes), Obsidian, and more. I am pretty soured on the Indie scene and so called games journalism. This article really reinforced my negativity.

I never tweet but this is something that I can get behind. Sent one to Atlus for their amazing Persona games, might do a few more as well. Game devs bring joy to my life, I will show my appreciation any way that I can.

I show I love (some) devs by buying their games new, not with stupid twitter bullshit. Also really escapist? If you are going to dodge the topic, dodge the fucking topic, don't call attention to the fact that you are doing so.
EDIT:
Also I got some better hashtags if you want to tweet something
#fuckindiedevs
#weloveTotalBiscut
#4chan4women

actually, now that I think about it #Ifarted is more worthwhile than welovegamedevs because at least it doesn't contribute to the egos of people who already think far to highly of themselves.

Love that GIF.

Anywho, I can see how some people will become frustrated at this, but it's not like The Escapist is saying "Since you have all hurt Zoe's feelings, get on twitter and give her some game dev love."

I just want to point out, that you can choose who you hashtag for this guys, kay?

Edit: Also loving these tags as well: #weloveTotalBiscuit, #4chan4women

I know this has been a horribly dark moment in Gaming journalism and the reactions from the community (I am fine with outrage, not fine with harrassment from either side of the debate), but let's do something GOOD with all that frustration.
