So about a year ago or so, all new games would go for AU$100 as an average price. That still applies now but I'm seeing standard editions of games go up to $120. ACII is $110 and MW2 $120. It's a good thing I don't give a flying shit about these games but it seems to me that it's commonly the super-hyped games that get slapped a higher price. And what happens to those people that don't like these games in the end? They're going to feel ripped off bad enough to even start a riot. This is a good marketing strategy since gamers will fork out any price that is put on these games, but how far will this go?

I just got Torchlight for 20 bucks, that's got me pretty happy about decent prices on some games.

Gaming's a pretty expensive hobby in general. You can offset the cost slightly by renting games you're not entirely sure about to ensure that they're actually worth buying at full price... But it's still a pretty expensive pastime.

I'd recommend buying everything used. Sure, it's not doing the industry any favors, and you'll end up playing the best games months after everyone else is bored of them, but when it costs you a good chunk of your paycheck just to buy a new game, it's not like you have a lot of options.

MW2 is certainly being sold at a shit high price... I try to avoid games that are over £40.

Its getting harder to do, though...

If you're in Australia and pay $100+ for a new release you're just silly. JB pretty much always sell games at $80 day one.

Clearly you have never been to a JBHIFI in Aus, Those games are $80-$90 there.
I do go to JB and get cheap games, plus I get games that are $80 from game.com.au (web price), but still, games aren't getting any cheaper.

Nope, everything's the same price in England. Some games spike a little higher (maybe £5 or so) but nothing major and nothing consistent. Except of course MW2.

Steam to the rescue! But seriously, if the UK and America complain that thier games are pricey, I will drag them to Australia and let them complain about it then!

They've been going up here too, it's mostly/entirely the "blockbuster" games so basically I've decided not to buy any of them at least until a better excuse than "inflation" is thought up. Don't sell me something at a reasonabe price then fine, I just won't buy it. Hell I can do something else with my money, not to mention the time that otherwise would have been spent playing a game.

Supply and demand people, supply and demand. If they want to sell games at higher prices and we aren't buying they'll have no choice but to lower the price again in order to see profits. Of course the fact that overall gamers seem quite content to pay whatever price the candyman wants kind of destroys my argument but fuck it, maybe people will catch on once Activision releases "Call of Duty: Give Us All Your Money", a clipshow game with the best bits from the previous Call of Duty games and one multiplayer map because "we found that most people stuck to their one favouite map anyway" - all for the low price of $120 USD.

When I was a kid games were $30-$50 at the most... Now they're up around $40-$60. DX I have no money to buy anything anymore and my comp can't run most of the new games. I'm not even sure HOW it manages to run Borderlands even on lowest settings. X_X
