So, back in October I bought my mom a Nintendo DS with one game: Tetris.
Now, she really likes this game (anything that she can play Tetris on), but it makes a police siren noise everytime she gets in the danger zone. Also, it's Christmas so I would like to expand her game library--as noted, her current library fits in one DS.

She likes old arcade games, see above and Pac-Man; however, I have seen her play several casual, javascript games (think Yahoo! Games, not farmville). I plan to get her Prof. Layton and the Curious Village to see if she'll branch out a bit, but I wondered if anyone had played any of the simpler, timefiller-type games on the DS that turned out to be good?

It is an DS Lite, so Gameboy Advanced Games are in as well.

My sister had one of the Brain Training games last Christmas full of daft puzzles and my mom became addicted to it and I don't think my sister saw the game for weeks. I'm not sure if that's the kind of thing you meant but that's the first thing that sprung to mind when I read your post.

Peggle, everyone love Peggle.
I regret showing my mom Peggle...

Moms love pretty much every puzzle-based casual game out there, it's a scientific fact (the best kind of fact)

I base this suggestion off my mum's favourite game, which she spends 2 hours on every day without fail:

Animal Crossing

I second peggle and prof. layton. What about puzzle quest? Is that on DS?

Try her on Turn based strategy or turn based RPG.

good luck!

I'm afraid I don't know any DS games, but I'm quite sure that Eufloria [http://www.eufloria-game.com/news.php] would be a game to her liking.

Pokemon. Clean and simple. If you were really big into Pokemon when you were young and your mother had to support your crippling Mon addiction, just get her any of the games and she'll get why.

I forgot about Puzzle Quest! There are lots of little games in that. Shotgun method, right? Something is bound to stick. If I throw in a little RPG she might play it on the side when she gets board with the puzzles.

Fuck, ninja'd.

Anyway, this. My mom loves all three installments. You can always try getting her Picross 3D, too, since my aunts seem to like that game.

If she can stand platformers, Kirby: Super Star Ultra, everyone loves Kirby. Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals is an ARPG in the same vein as Zelda, just with less polish and more emphasis on story and character.

If you own, or know anyone who has a PS3, check out Flower. Definitely one of the best casual games out there.

For America's senior citizens, the looming Social Security crisis makes it clear that only one game will do, and it must be popularized as quickly as possible:

Cyanide-Laced Cocktail Drinking Games!

Don't try this at home.

Try Yoshi's Island, maybe? My mother was a huge fan of it back when the SNES was new. The day she found out I had that same game on GBA, she played until the day was over.
