You know what, cars aren't expensive if you get one that's a good 5-10 years old second hand.
And come to think of it, those go karts some guys make in their backyards aren't too expensive either, and sometimes run better than the cars you can buy.
Games ARE expensive. OLD GAMES may not be, but since when do we look to old stuff to gauge prices? You generally look at the new stuff when labelling prices, 'cause of course the old stuff is going to be dirt cheap - its old.
If you want to play games that have come out this year, that everyone's talking about, and that everyone else is playing, its going to cost you. Sure, you could go indie and save some money, but not everyone wants to.
Not all games are expensive, but they're not all cheap either. Compared to other mediums, games cost a fair bit more than their comparison. How much do you think a high budget movie costs to make? Compared to a high budget game? [Hint: The movie costs a LOT more]. How much can you get a DVD of that movie for? How much can you buy a licence to use the game for? [Hint: The DVD is far cheaper, generally a third of the price most places where I shop {Well, 1/5 of the price, but I'm assuming the $60 game rather than the $100 game - screw you Australia}].
