Brink, Saw, Duke Nukem Forever (That one really stung), Child Of Eden, Fable 2, all of these fooled me in some way or another, or I was just dissapointed.

Brutal Legend - Demo made me think it was a heavy metal hack and slash, but turned out to be an RTS.
Dead Island - Great trailer, horrible game

Freakin' Pokemon Black & White.

At first, I felt like it would not be as good as the previous four Gens, but still ok on it's own merits. I was wrong.

So very wrong.

And now, they are announcing their sequel (Black 2 & White 2), over hyping the damn thing with a cool clip for an anime that will never be made and enticing the fans with a dancing Meloetta that will only show up at the ending of the current Pokemon anime (in a tiny screen in the corner).

I agree with Dead Island, but as far as Brutal Legend is concerned, I think we must've played different games. Mine was a pretty awesome hack-&-slash that at one point had me leading an army from the front.

Skyrim. It's just so.. Bland and soulless. I saw my friend playing it, and thought it looked awesome, but after playing it myself for a while.. Well, I was extremely underwhelmed.

The story is uninteresting and has no reason for you to pursue you. The exposition is quite frankly, terrible. Instead of you experiencing major stuff, there's always some random person telling you what's going on. The difficulty is all over the place, and it's incredibly monotonous.

I will admit it has its strong sides too, but in my opinion it doesn't deserve all the praise it gets.

There is one answer, and only oner answer that I will ever give to this thread, and threads of this ilk. And that answer is...

PPPPRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

or, if I'm going to dial it down a little...

[Prototype}!!!

Seriously, fuck this mother fucking piece of shit. Yes yes, I was very impressed with the opening cinematic. 'Wow!' I said, 'that looks photo-real!'

Yeah, and thats where 95% of the budget went. It certainly didn't go on the game design, the story or the mother fucking physics of the game, did it?

No, I said I wasn't going to relapse into this...

Medal of Honor: Airborne. The demo was so fun (Along with the first few missions) But the impossible panzer level killed it. I can just see the developers on this. "Ok guys! I've got a great idea! Why don't we put them in a level where the first part you can skip completely by sniping everyone in sight for 20 minutes, and the second be a linear bridge where endless waves of enemies with rocket launchers attack you. Also, there should be about 20 sitting at higher vantage points, giving the player no chance to complete the level. It's brilliant!"

Time to play a good shooter. TF2!

Brink and dead island. Both and some pretty kick ass trailers, but what we got was a buggy broken mess with bad AI.

Front Mission evolved and Final Fantasy XIII.... what happened to you Square-enix/soft? T__T

On the bright side, they have taught me that brand loyalty is a very foolish thing.

Halo Reach. Didn't even finish the single player. It just felt very dull, though I heard that the ending was great.

Definitely Spore, personally. Bulletstorm also works. It had fun mechanics, but I was expecting some deliberately disposable story and being able to focus exclusively on the gameplay, as was the case for Painkiller. What I got was an arcadey shooter with a big case of "Yay, my balls just dropped!" syndrome.

This is a game that didn't need a story or a premise to speak of. They added gruff characters because, hey, it's part of the Epic Games staple, and a fuckton of swear words because that supposedly makes everything feel gritty. Uh, nope. It annoyed me to Hell.

I'd also add almost every MMO to date. They promise something epic, but the grind is pretty hard to miss. I'd rather play Diablo 3, where grinding is more or less part of the game mechanics.

I dont think i've ever been fooled as I very rarely buy a game at release.

Having said that, one game I regretted buying was farcry 2. Not because the game was necessarily bad, but because it gave me motion sickness. Why I can't remember.

Spartan: Total Warrior.

I remember when I was younger, and played the demo, which included the first level I think. I thought the whole game was going to consist of massive siege and field battles, with you controlling one soldier instead of the CA usual RTS stuff. Turns out only the first couple of levels and a very few select ones after are like that.
LOL i spent an hour playing that demo in Circut city once.... found the game in a store a few years ago and got it just for kicks... yeah wasnt all that i thougth it would be...

Brink.

It hyped up its character customisation, it hyped up its movement mechanics.

What we ended up with was a terrible, terrible, TF2 clone.
I can't believe people fell for Brink. I saw through that shit instantly. There was never any doubt.
The same happened with Saints Row The Third. I've seen trailers and gameplay videos and I noticed the lack of customization videos. They knew what they've done. And so did I. And then they announced 40 weeks of DLC before the game was even out. Why did anyone buy it is beyond me.

I guess if I could name one game that fooled me it would have to be Metro 2033. Maybe my expectations were too high. Graphics were great, but everything else was mediocre at best! Also, FOV of 45 on PC is unforgivable. It felt like a poor man's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Why do people like it so much? It's not even scary. It's just frustrating.

Oh yeah, Braid! I heard great things about this game. But not only was the gameplay boring, I've also never played a more pretencious game which thinks it's better than its audience.
