Chromehounds didnt age very well. Im pretty sure that game lived for about 6 months then dissapeared off the face of the earth. No one I know has played it

Also, the medal of honor games aged terribly. I bought a collectors edition with a few of the old games in it because it was going cheap. Not even the nostalgia glasses could save it

The original Diablo, aaargh. I don't know about the second one but I bought the first on reputation and really didn't like it. Combat came down to how many health potions you had and it was impossible to find your way around the floors because of the dodgy isometric view.

Perfect Dark. I wish it wasn't true, but today, it's really not so great.
I bought that on Xbox Live despite having never played the original. This purchase was PURELY based on it's reputation. I REGRET IT WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING.
Really? Huh funny.

I think for 800ms points to "REGRET IT WITH EVERY FIBER OF YOUR BEING" is a bit extreme.

I enjoy the fact that I get to play the game on a console that supports its framerate (it had issues on the 64) and the fact that I get to play with bots. The combat simulator give me lots of time to play multiplayer without having to deal with the cesspool that is XBL.

I understand that "it's no COD of Halo" but its not the worst FPS ever made gosh golly gee whiz.

Most 3D games, return to Castle Wolfenstein has like 3 death animations for all the nazis and it looks very primitive.

Rome Total War looks pretty crap these days. And sadly, Devil May Cry 3 has aged rather quickly.

Any sports game more than 2 or 3 years old. Never mind the 90s ones people go "Who was that?" (Specifically "Double Dribble".)

as much as I hate to say it Deus Ex(and any game from that awkward time between the N64/PS1 era and the GC/PS2 era) looks like crap...

Phantasy Star Online, the controls aren't very good for the guns in it.
Though if we are going with graphics, I would say many games during the N64 and PS1 Era.

As much as I love the first silent hill I have to admit its graphics have not aged well at all. This has taken away from some of the game's scary moments but it can still get me in a few situations. Also, medievil. I loved that game when it came out. Now it's kinda crappy.

I think the thread should be retitled "Nostalgia being obliterated by replaying old games."

Yeah, Silent Hill 1 is harder to get immersed in than it used to be, although 2 still looks good enough to get me good and scared. I think it's that the grainy, faded look of it has more longevity than shiny graphics that are superseded fairly quickly.

Although I strongly disagree with Medieval, It's still great fun to play and has a very unique feel to it that few other games do. But mebbe I'm bias because I love any games that have that particular kind of British humour. Like Hogs Of War. :D

Anything that has aimed for realism does not age well graphically. Even the most amazing looking realistic game of 2010 will be comical by 2020.

Look at Virtua Fighter, it is hard to go back now

As for gameplay mechanics, I hate any game that has passwords or makes you start all over from Stage 1-1. I am so glad those no longer exist in games today.

With proper fear of being crucified in check. Final Fantasy Tactics.
Perhaps not terribly aged since I still play it from time to time, but it is definitely dated compared to a lot of more recently released Turn Based strategy games likely due to it's sheer lack of balance. Don't get me wrong I love to use all the jobs, but even disregarding Orlandu once you get access to Ninjas or Calculators the game just about feels like it's giving up.

Weirdly enough, I still play Perfect Dark every single day. Perhaps it's just nostalgia, but fuck it, it's still fun! Timesplitters 2 is better though.
I never played PD when it was brand new, but I did try the demo on XBLA a while ago.
To progress I had to find a key to a door that looked like any other door, and there are a lot of doors.
Everything looked the same, and I just got bored after running around those offices five times without finding anything.
In other words, being a fan and knowing where everything is probably helps. :)
Of course boredom is what made me not finish the demo for the latest Turok game either, and that is still pretty new.

Half life 2 and its episodes.....
I looked it up, and... 2004?
Wow!
It feels like much more recent than that; I still haven't even finished the main game.
Still, I don't see how it doesn't hold up well, or at least I guess I don't agree.

A game I remember liking that I tried playing again a year back or so is Jill of the Jungle.
The 1-tile-scrolling is horrible, makes it really annoying to judge jumps.
I remember it was a matter of getting used to back then, but I just couldn't be bothered now.
It's somewhat similar with Tomb Raider.
It took me a while to get used to the controls, precisely lining up my jumps, but I think the game is still fun enough to warrant spending that time.

Final Fantasy VII.

From a merely graphical perspective, it looks awful by today's standards. However, the soundtrack, like Gun's, is quite nice.
Don't forget the translation, I think that's the worst part.
I'm probably more lenient on the translations than most probably, but I found there were rarely any problems. Maybe I just got used to reading bad translations or something. Gotta love Barrett's (well, and everyone else's) square hands though, right?

Silent Hill's graphics don't do very well really... luckily I always prefered the later games so I'm not that disappointed.
Apart from that, maybe the old point and click games that ran on DOS. The awful midi soundtrack, characters often hard to tell apart from scenery etc...
