I was thinking that I've never cried at a game and then I remembered Crisis Core. I cried like a little girl at the end of that game. No manliness there whatsoever.

Aside from that, never. I just don't find most games emotionally engaging in that way.

REAL MEN DON'T CRY. j/k

OT: I don't think there has ever been a scene where I was on the verge of crying. Yes, I have felt deeply sad during some scenes but I have never cried. Closest thing would prolly be from Chrono Trigger.

Crisis core and dear god did I cry at that.
FF10; that was just a little tear running down my cheek,I'm still tuff... right?
Can I just say that even though ANYONE who played Final Fantasy VII knew how that game was going to end, we all secretly hoped it wouldn't because Zack is just so awesome D:

Hm. I never cried at a game - I don't really cry at sorrow all that much IRL either - but I did feel saddened in a few games.

The most recent game which made me feel sad was the ending of Half Life 2: episode 2. I felt so sorry for Eli, and the sobbing sound of Alyx didnt' make it much better. It helpd alot that Valve put them down as believable characters, so that their deaths weren't throw-aways.

Then there are a bunch of old SNES games that made me sad. Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals has a bittersweet ending where the protagonist and his wife dies, which didn't make me cry but it was rather sad.
I also found certain keypoints in Illusion of Gaia to be rather depressing.

This may sound pretty silly but...Dynasty Warriors 7.

The Wei story ending. I just felt so sorry for Xiahou Dun...I mean, he's lost a close friend (Dan Wei), one cousin (Xahou Yuan), then his second cousin as well (Cao Cao) and he seems pretty close to all of them. It depresses him so much that finally killing Guan Yu doesn't even make him happy.

I'm gonna have to agree with Sarukin. It was so over done that I don't understand how people didn't see it coming. The scene itself is really quite well done, but the build up ruined it. I did think that the one Gear's (Tal or something like that) was pretty unexpected and hit home a lot better. Didn't make me tear up but had way more of an impact than Maria on me.
It wasn't that people didn't see it coming, it's just the scene was done so well most people can't help but to get emotional over it. Nobody will argue that the whole business with Maria wasn't played out as well as it could've been but it's no so bad if you can look past the fact that there was almost no mention of her in the first game.

And I agree, nobody expected Tai to go out like that. It was a sad day for us all.

Valkyria Chronicles really made me tear up when
Isara died, but I really started to lose it when Rose started singing.
Now, I can never hear that song without setting off a reaction. lol

When Gavin Archer says "30.1", I tend to tear up a little. Whoever writes the missions for Mass Effect is surprisingly fond of the "Science is Bad" trope, and was anvilicious as hell in that scene, but they know how to pull the heart strings, even if you think their message is based on false preconceptions.

Kane and Lynch 2...

Dear God, I can still remember the sheer pointless agony of sitting watching my life and money waste away thanks to seemingly endless battles against the AS (Artificial Stupidity) and a total wipe of my hard drive thanks to that opengl driver update... (sniff)

I cried at the end of FFX.
Also the end of MGS4, I haven't played any of the other MGS games, but I thought it was really well made.

Another time was not tears of sadness, but tears of HATE when I played Dark Sector, it sucked so much that after an hour of playing I took the disk out and decided to use it as a coaster for my coffee mug.
I saw that game new for $9.99 and couldn't believe it was so CHEAP! Being cautious, I got the demo to make sure it was $9.99 out of the goodness of the store's heart rather than because it was crap.
I don't think I quite made it through an hour before shutting it off, deleting the demo, and never thinking about buying it again.

Red Dead Redemption got me. LA Noire, on the other hand, very nearly convinced me to email Rockstar to tell them to stop fucking doing that.

Portal 2, the second time, when I found out what the lyrics to the turret song mean. For some reason, it just did D:
Yeah, it was awesome the first time I saw it, the second time when I actually knew what the words meant it was really moving.
What do they mean? I never thought to look it up or anything.

I'm going to be that one guy who adamantly denies crying over a video game, and it's true. I've felt the emotion of the game, wether it be the sadness or anger, but it never fully manifested withing me as tears. The closest I ever got to this that I recall was in InFamous when Kessler put Cole through the old "Choose who lives, but I know who you pick so you don't win either way" bit. When Cole talked about finding that sick bastard I flexed my arm, glaring and snarling at the tv like "Fuck yes I will, and I'll fry him up extra crispy too!"

lol me too! Up to that point, I thought I was playing this lighthearted take on war where nothing really bad happens, and boom. Awesome game, I really, really wish more people had played it.
