I cried every time I defeated a colossus in Shadow of the Colossus. It was really painful to destroy something so ancient, beautiful, and majestic.

Lost Odyssey is the only game to ever make me cry, that game is some powerful shit.
Quoted for truth. Not many games can get a reaction out of me.. but with this game is like every ten minutes it's got me crying..

God damn fucking immortals.. ;_;

Portal 2, the second time, when I found out what the lyrics to the turret song mean. For some reason, it just did D:
I almost cried at
"Caroline deleted."
However, I did actually shout "NOOOOOOOOOO!" very loudly. For me it was the saddest moment in the game. It felt so unfair.

I havent cried yet in a game, but i fully intend on crying during Mass Effect 3, or i will be sorely disapointed in Bioware.

The latest game that had my eyes running like faucets was Persona 4.

They kill off your little sister. She's like seven years old, the cutest, most innocent character ever in a video game. She gets sick, spends weeks in pain laying in the hospital while you convince yourself that everything will be fine. Then you get a call, that she's gotten worse... you get to the hospital, and she dies...
This one hit very close to home for me since IRL, someone close to me got cancer and died in exactly the same fashion. Even the room looked the same.
This is my answer every time this thread comes up.
The way you vainly reassure her that everything is going to be all right just made it that much worse.

I actually cried when in FF7 that love interest girl dies.

Sorry guys. I still think that the FF games are awesome.
You know, everytime I see this type of thread, I see at leat one person who says they cried at this point in the game. Perhaps I am cynical, or just simply deranged, but I could not help laughing like a goon when that part happened.

Anyway, there are points in games that have saddened me, but not really to the point of tears. The closest I've been was when I was 12, playing through Chrono Cross for the first time. I was at the part where you had to get the hydra humour to save Kid, and I thought that if I failed she would die. It kept depressing me. That and the part where she gets shanked in Fort Dragonia, I thought she died. Oh, yeah, that's a spoiler, but the game is 10+ years old.

Count Bleck's back-story and ending in Super Paper Mario made me tear up. Yeah, yeah, it was cliched, but it was just so damn bitter sweet!

I do think they're art, but I am in the same boat. I just don't find my self choking up.

I don't choke up much though from media, Bridge to Terabithia got me once though (the book, not the film).

I teared up pretty badly at the highest-karma fallout 3 ending, mainly with the combination of the music and how perfect it felt the way you died like your father...

The ending of Portal 2 had me tearing up due to how much I had become connected to and enjoyed the world the game created.

The ending of Penumbra: Black Plague (made by the creators of Amnesia: the Dark Descent) made me want to cry in tears of horror and despair. Same with the bad ending of its sequel, Penumbra: Requiem.

Hmm .. it seems like most people are talking about what I like to call 'bro-sad' things, or 'Gladiator'-sad.

I found the death of that kid in Dragon Age to be the game writers throwing down a gauntlet. I can't say I actually cried, but it made me stop and wonder 'will the game designers *actually* go through with this?!'

I have to say I kept expecting some other character to walk in an say 'waaaaait! luckily, I know what to do!' and save the kid despite me screwing up. But nope ... I had to stand there, impotently, and watch an already emotional wreck of a woman slit her son's throat and hold him sobbing as the life gushed from him, until he became a small, cold, dead hunk of meat.

And, although it wasn't my fault, it was my failure to act accordingly that saw this happen.

Perhaps being a parent made it more poignant for me, rather than others here?

Speedball 2 on the Amiga. This one time, I pressed the eject button to get the disk out, but it shot out too fast and hit me right in the crotch. Brought a tear to my eye that did.

That's not to say I've not felt a little sad at certain times, but I can't think of an occassion where a game has genuinely made me cry even a little. That being said, when I read about the Sam and Max one that someone else mentioned, I looked up the ending... DUDE! When you think about it, that's kinda depressing.

Oh, and of course Marley and Me (and I'm a cat person).

The only times I have come close to crying in a video games are the ending to terranigma, and the ghost train part from FF6. After I was done with the ghost train part, I had to pause the game to take it all in.
Terranigma is unstoppably beautiful, probably the best story on a SNES game.
It is probably tied for my second favorite SNES RPG with FF6 (Chrono Trigger being number one).

It's a shame that so few people have heard of it. It's an incredible game.

Has a painting ever made you cry?
I don't thin I've ever cried because of a video game. I have been touched, disappointed, infuriated and depressed by one but I've never cried.
