CALL OF DUTY IS FUCKING LINEAR BUT WHY DOES EVERYONE ASSOCIATE LINEARITY WITH 13?!
Having never played a Final Fantasy game before I'm going to hazard that people have gotten used to CoD being linear but Final Fantasy has had some free-roaming elements. Can anyone confirm/deny?

OT: Mafia II

Sorry we cut tons of stuff from the game, but still left remnants of it in the game to taunt you.

It has. But if you followed the story which there wasn't really anything other to do in the earlier games where free roaming was key, it was linear. But times change. They tried something new. Is that so wrong?

I had a friend who liked Mafia 2. o_O

So, I just finished FF13 last night, mainly because I just wanted to say I beat it. And I thought the credits would have been a good spot for Square Enix to apologize for having the game be so damn linear.

So my question is: Is there a game out there that you thought needed an apology from the developers?
Since when was being linier a bad thing? Do you complain about other storytelling mediums being too liner or not interactive enough?
This is what I get for trying to make a fun thread...

And to the guy who said my parents buy my games, I'm 25 and I buy my own games with my own fucking money that I bust my ass making. Seriously, this was intended as a fun post.

God the internet sucks. Thank you.

Earthbound -

Sorry US, you'll get to enjoy me for a brief time and never fucking see me again.
p.s. you can forget about the sequels too :p
The sequel came out on the GBA in 2006. The DS came out in 2004.
It's an uphill battle from the start, since it's a J-RPG that doesn't have "Final Fantasy" or "Pokemon" in the title, but factoring in that it came out on an obsolete system. Yeah, it would have sold even worse than Earthbound.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. "We apologize that the story wasn't nearly as epic as it should have been. We also apologize for the linearity of it all and the forgettable characters. We're sorry."

Nerd Rage sequence complete.

OT: Duke Nukem Forever, The last 3 CoD's, the next 3 Halo games, Halo Wars, any game with Always-On DRM, and......

Arx Fatalis with it's fickle magic system.

Why the next 3 Halo Games? THEY'RE BEING HANDLED BY THE SAME BASTARDS THAT GAVE US HALO WARS!
The "Same bastards who gave us Halo Wars" were the guys who made Age Of Empires, and were shut down after completing Halo Wars. Check your facts.

I mainly meant, "It's in the hands of Microsoft, not Bungie."

If Bungie doesn't want the series to go on, others should respect their wish.

Too Human, though I would be more justified in saying this if I had actually managed to stand it through to the credits.

Kingdom Hearts 2: "Sorry guys, we thought we were making a movie until halfway in. Hope the quick-time events made you feel like you actually had a say in how the battles were fought (even though you didn't)."
Finally someone else who didn't really like KH2! I was SO disappointed in it when I finished it!

I'm sorry, but your post sounded pretty angry and agresive to me. " ... apologize for having the game be so damn linier"

Funny how one word can change the entire tone of a written post isn't it? Maybe you should spend less time blaming others and see where you might have gone wrong.

How about this? Why don't all the gamers who spend far too much time gaming and bitching about games on the internet write an open letter to developers, and movie directors, and TV producers and songwriters and bands, apologized to them for whining over minor gripes with the product that they busted their ass to produce, the product that they still see as a work of art, the culmination of moving, say, out to LA and living in a tiny apartment with 5 other guys for 6 years until they finally got their break, while said spoonfed gamers gamed their way through high school before getting a job at the local WalMart or CD Warehouse or Gamestop so they could eek out an unenviable living and ***** about the people actually producing stuff.

It's not that you have a grievance with a Final Fantasy game. Hell, I've never been able to get into any of those games and I hated the film. It's that you feel so entitled that you believe the hard working people at the company that produces the products that you (your parents) buy should compose an apology to you. I'm sure the people at Square Enix don't read Escapist threads, but if they did, I'm pretty sure they'd tell you to fuck off, and they'd be totally justified.

No offense :)

I'll admit I didn't read through the rest of the thread, so sorry if I'm the 20,000th person yelling at you about this.

Gamers have a right to complain. It helps people make better games. If no one ever complained or offered criticism, we wouldn't be at the level that we're at now.

Also, not only that, but there are small developers out there with much better ideas that we never get to see. Why should big companies make money for crappy ideas if we can't help them improve? Saying that someone has no right to complain is basically saying that companies shouldn't listen to what their fans want.

Also, your comment about gamers growing up and working at WalMart is an absurd generalization. Most people working in the industry today were gamers at some point, that's only logical.

I think a plaque I saw on a wall somewhere said it best: Engage Brain before putting Mouth in gear.

On topic: Jak X Combat Racing (even though it was a good game): Sorry for !@%&ing up your Memory Card. Please don't sue.

A personal gripe of mine, despite loving ths game to death, is Star Wars: Republic Commando.

"We're sorry we have to abandon the coolest character and effectively end this on a cliffhangar. We're also sorry that we don't intend to make a sequel, despite this being one of the cooler Star Wars games that doesn't involve Jedi in a major role!"

Bioshock 1.

"Sorry about that last level, all the good writers went home after we finished the bit with Andrew Ryan."

Also, Fallout 3.

"Sorry for having Liam Neeson play the dumbass character. But hey, at least we had him survive the tutorial level unlike in Oblivion eh?"

New Vegas:

While we're sure you enjoyed it, we're sorry that all the bugs made such a fun game so fun resistant. Without those glitches, it would have been nearly perfect, but instead we added a shit ton of needless frustration. Our bad.

Some people really are too serious...

OT I wouldn't be surprised if Peter Molyneux already did that in all his games.
