Is anyone familiar with the concept of 'A pile of Shame'

The pile of shame is a little list of all those wrongfully ignored games. Critical successes, but commercial flops, or forgotten by the masses yet remembered fondly by all those who played them. Or games that are just so revolutionary, ground breaking and great that they need to be played. These games are usually absolute gems with the highest critical acclaim, or games that, when mentioned to fans of the genre, cause them to sputter things like "You absolutely must play this!". Ignored by the Call of Duty, Halo and WoW-going general public; these games are quite often featured prominently on people's top ten lists, and can be any number of years old.

Sometimes, its a combination of all three. So why are they shameful? Because you most likely haven't played them

Your pile of shame is these games which you have not played. For example, I?m going to give a little (very short) list of such games. And if you haven?t played at least a third of them; Please, hurt yourself.

Yay I've played a third of them! Although, I must shamefacedly admit, that I have not, despite being a huge space-com-sim whore have never played Freespace 2(but I have played 1).

The Shadow Heats series, They were constantly overlooked because of the release dates (shortly after FFX) but by far some of the best games that I've ever played. Honestly, I'm willing to say that it could rival Final Fantasy. It was that good.

Battlefield 2142 : doesn't seem to have nearly as much of a user base as BF2 does. I like it much better, personally.

Sacrifice for the PC. It contained many innovative concepts and technologies that Black and White got the credit for even though sacrifice came out nearly five years before it. Also the writing and story was a work of genious. There just isnt clever writing like this anymore.

Goemon Legend of The mystical Ninja and Goemon's Great adventure for the n64. Thank to you guys, Konami only releases titles in Japan.

I remember playing goemon on the N64 so maybe they did in europe as well (still looking for the snes version)

but this topic can be long one. there are so many games that are lost in the hypes of games like halo. They come flooding the market like a tidal wave leaving multitude of the games for death on the shore.

I agree with that. Another good game would be FlatOut, which is a surprisingly solid racer. Better than Need for Speed anyway. Nothing I can really add that hasn't been said before, but the DS has a lot of great niche games that get overlooked like Ouendan.

And finally, Global Defence Force on the PS2.
