Games that you never liked even though everyone thinks they are great

Half-Life 2.

I tried playing it a few times and couldn't get into it. Then I tried it again out of the blue, got a little further into the game and it really picked up, it eventually wound up on my 'favourite games ever' list.

I also maintain a loathing of the Super Smash Brothers series, as well as the Dead or Alive, Tekken and post-sidescrolling Mortal Kombat series.

GTA IV. There are many series that could benefit from realism. GTA is not one of them. Give us a realistic and physics if you want, but it really bites into the fun of a rampage when it is impossible to speed around a corner at 50 miles an hour, because it isn't "realistic enough."
No offense, but that's lack of skill. I've take corners doing very high speed just fine.
Realism also takes a hit when a skinny tree sends Niko flying 100ft out of the windsheild after ramming it going roughly 120km/h
That I will grant is pretty damn annoying. I don't know if they have a Greenpeace rep working the physics department, but for some reason every tree in the game is fucking Yggdrasil, and completely indestructible.

Even though this is a duplicate, OP's SN is awesome and completely makes up for it!

Yeah I came here to say that, I'll be leaving now.

(Err, I guess the "popular game I don't like" of the day is World of Warcraft, so there, I'm "on topic")

COD4 Multiplayer. The singleplayer was fun, but the multiplayer has an awful spawning system, and is way too easy.

How far into the game are you? All of the cars I've gotten seem to handle like cows.

Halos 2 and 3, Battlefield Bad Company and World of Warcraft.

Halo 1 was a great game, partly because it had a pistol that wasn't useless, but Halos 2 and 3 had crap plots and often boring gameplay, especially fighting the brutes in Halo 2 and the 2nd to last level in Halo 3.

Battlefield Bad Company I dislike because there is no challenge at all, and the destructible enviroments feature is very restrictive. The developers tried to explain this by saying that they didn't want players razing buildings to the ground, which is the bloody point of it!

Finally, what do people actually find fun about WoW? It is just the same repetitive grind over and over again.

for me, its Ico.

What the hell were all gaming journals going on about? It was Zelda without the cool.

I never though hack in slash adventure games could be boring, but there you go.

I'm sorry yall but I hate GRAND THEFT AUTO! Any game that has graphics like GTA's gets called ugly or blurry but nooooo not GTA its so innovative! Sure maybe for a game a two but good lord its the same open game with the same ugly graphics. And this GTA4 story all the critics rave about give me a break. Any jrpg smokes any GTA story hell i can name 10 games with better stories than GTA off the top of my head. Its a huge shame to because GTA is not a horrible game or anything but all the ZOMG about it really just makes me go.. eh...

Hmm, a lot of Halo hate in this thread...It's a great game if you get to know it, and have friends who play it. But whatever, the whole point of this thread is to show differences of opinion.

For games I dislike, I would say the MGS series, the Final Fantasy series, and any platforming game other then the Prince of Persia series. Oh, and Oblivion was awful.

Any RPG that is turn-based, I just don't understand where the "fun" comes in to it.
Let me just say, if you dont like board games, you wron't like turn-based RPGs. To me, they are like more complex versions of chess, in a good way. Granted, some are very simplistic, and all you do is hit the "attack" order, but the good ones add a large variety of attacks, support abilities, and passive traits to both player and bosses that every move must be planned properly or your screwed.

Final Fantasy.

"Oh my god! The main evil dude/chick/walrus wants to blow up the world and score with my love interest! I need to hurry up and wander around aimlessly for 5 minutes fighting wave upon wave of randomly appearing bad guys until I think I'll actually have a chance to win!"

No, thanks.

I enjoy Halo because I play it with a friend but don't actually own it. I'd rather buy a game with the best single-player mode EVAR, regardless of it having any form of multiplayer. Although offline co-op would be nice...

I hate all Mario Kart racing games. With a burning desire to throw them into a bottomless hole of sharks. Why would you grant a power-up that unleashes hell on the guy in first place? Why aren't turtle shells banned in the Mario universe? Why are we racing on a f***ing rainbow through space?

I never really got the whole Halo thing... I've played much better FPS games on my PC and didn't really find anything particularly special on ground-breaking with Halo.
Don't get me wrong, it's a bit fun, but it's not the god-of-all-FPS's it's made out to be by fans, I actually preferred Deus Ex 2 :p
