Sniping in Bad Company 2 is hilariously fun when you take it to medium range. Insanely powerful gun with decent pistols for back up, and recon orbs to help you control the encounter. Nothing like dropping an orb on an enemy position and just coming up behind them because you know where they're looking without even having to see them. Sure the bullet drop and all that makes it interesting at long range, but eh.... no help to your team picking off the occasional target at mile and a half range when you should be mixing it up with C4 and recon orbs.

Sniping in TF2 is an art as well, but in the opposite direction. Because you have to hide your laser dot, sniping is a matter of the quick shot - sure you can zoom in to get the additional power, but you need to take the shot fast because if the enemy team sees that laser dot sitting on an obvious wall they'll know right where you are and you'll never get a neat shot off.

All games!

But, if I had to pick just a couple; Battlefield 2 and Borderlands. Borderlands is fun, because you can play either co op or singleplayer, and the sniper character is balanced enough that it works. There's something about being able to land a headshot that subsequently burns the enemie's body to ashes, as well.

Battlefield 2 is the only multiplayer game where I'll play sniper. I have 3 or 4 mates who work really well together, and we all pick different classes to play to our strengths. My fiance usually ends up a medic, as he's VERY good at it, while a mate goes engineer and another anti-tank. Then sniping becomes part of a team effort, as they get me to a high point where I can cover them and relay information to them.

I'm suddenly very grateful for my mates. Sniping wouldn't be half as fun without them.

BFBC2. That is my favorite multiplayer game ever, just because of the sniping.
This so much. Getting a 150+ long range bonus with a headshot always feels SO good.

Fallout 3, with OP: Anchorage's Gauss Rifle.

Doing massive damage on baddies from the distance while knocking them back like you got the gun equivalent of a force push is the ultimate lesson in humility.

Killing Floor, Stalker, Bad Company 2, there's a good amount. None of them are that popular though as sniping takes a fair amount of skill. Especially in Bad Company 2.

Give me a minute.

Ummm.

I'm usually never the sniper...

Oh, yes, Killing Floor, Half-Life series and Team Fortress 2.

Killing Floor: Crossbow (only scoped weapon) is silent, powerful, and rips through all enemies on its way to the wall and is very useful taking down Scrakes, Sirens and Fleshpounds.

Half-Life: Crossbow (again) makes a nice clunking sound, can pin enemies to walls, is hella fun, takes skill for the bolt to drop and is very satisfying to nail someone to a billboard with a red-hot rod.

Team Fortress 2: Sniper sucks at close range, can kill any class at far range, granted the Sniper is good enough. Not overpowered in the slightest, but can be unhelpful.

I really like sniping in Bad Company 2, the feeling of picking some sprinting Engineer whos jumping from cover to cover off from across the map in that one blissfully perfect headshot with just the right adjustment for bullet drop and lead is one of the best in multiplayer, bar none.

I always found Killzone 2 to have great sniping after I unlocked the better scope and learned to control my hands. And Sixaxis helped me with sniping quite a bit.

Personally, it has nothing to do with the game, and little to do with the weapon. Sniping can be fun in any game, or it can get very boring. It's all about what happens before you kill the enemy.

Single handedly picking off about 80% of a team full of noobs (or people with no defense against snipers) has it's moments, but it's not fun for a long period of time. In the same way, sniping from a good spot gets boring after a while. If no one on the enemy team has the skill to kill before you put a bullet in their head, then you might as well be playing a reflex trainer. (I use this one from time to time [http://aim400kg.ru/en/])

Sniping is the most fun when you get to battle against a sniper who is equally skilled. Nothing feels better getting in an intense battle with another player. Changing positions and tactics to try and get the upper hand, sneaking up behind him and knifing him in the back, and successfully blowing his brains out after he's failed to kill you. That's where the fun is.

The good news is, in most games I've played, you get a good amount of both in large team matches. You get the fun of pointlessly bashing in noobs, and you've got the challenge of dealing with a top notch player. Spend some time shooting noobs, then fight the real player for a challenge.

I love sniping in any game. Period. The only time I didn't like sniping was in Killzone 2. The scope on the rifle wasn't "working" for me (not to say that it was broken). The two sniping levels in Call of Duty 4 and the Spec Ops mission in Modern Warfare 2 are some of my favorite levels of all time.

XBow got a major nerf recently. Headshot damage bonus was halved, doesn't come with full clip of ammo, price was boosted, ammo cost boosted as well and it weighs 10 blocks to boot. All the Sharpshooter weapons got a nerf of some kind, except Lever Action Rifle which is still a piece of crap.

Very few Hard difficulty games see Sharpshooters after the 2nd wave. Support Specialist and Beserker are seeing a lot of use now.
So that's why xbow bolts are fucking outrageously expensive...

Another vote for BC2...but I tend to be more medium range. One shot kills, at least in hardcore, with the 4x scoped SV98 at 0-100 yards are my specialty

Fallout 3/New Vegas sniping. Crouching and scanning the area with your scope, spotting an enemy and watching their movement patterns and fixing your scope crosshair when as soon as they step, you fire and their head gloriously explodes.

Edit: I'm using Realistic Headshots mod, so headshots in New Vegas on humanoids and an amount of other creatures are instakills. But I can also get instakilled by headshots, with the exception of the game's intro.

I always thought the battlefront 2 sniping was fun, depending on the planet, with all the toys you got to play with while you did it.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has excellent sniping. The maps are large enough that bullet drop can play a factor and you have to lead moving targets. While this makes it difficult, once you line up the shot and hit your mark, it's by far the most satisfying sniping experience in gaming (that I've played).
That.

Also, TF2 has pretty fun sniping. Not sure if you want to deal with TF2 tho...

Nothing quite like waiting out slow-motion than by reloading a crossbow just in time to miss out on it :D
My sniping fun would be either in battlefield 2 or team fortress 2. CRITICAL HIT!

Gonna have to say Delta Force 2 in its multiplayer prime.

The maps took hours to walk across, with varied terrains. Hills, valleys, rivers. Everything.

You could go 2 hours without seeing an enemy in a 20 man game, and you had to adjust your scope for distance, then bullet drop. The farthest shots had you aiming 20-30 feet above your enemy. And ghillie suits actually worked perfectly.

Damn you graphic improvements and new games! I miss DF2 :(
