Games which, for you, define 'replay value'

The original Perfect Dark from N64.
3 difficulty settings, with each one not just making enemies harder, but also adding more missions on each level.
For each difficulty setting that you completed the game, the game would reward you with yet another extra level.
Once you have completed the game in all 3 difficulty levels, the game unlocks yet another ULTRA difficulty level.
Each level had a time trial challenge. If you managed to complete it at the right time,it would unlock you a gun cheat.
Multiplayer had way more game modes than you CoD and Battlefield.
The game had like 30 multiplayer specific maps, more than 6 times those of the modern average FPS.
The game would not only hold your multiplayer statistics, but it would also give you rewards and classify you depending on your skill.
Multiplayer also had 40 challenges where you and your friends could co-operate against CPU controlled bots.
Except from the usual vs multiplayer, the game also had co-operative.
The game also had a unique multiplayer mode named counter-operative,in which one player plays the main character through the story mode, and the other controls the enemies of the level.

Judging by the amount of content this game had, modern FPSs are very weak IMO.

p.s. and of course all Mario games from 64 and later. Lots of stars to collect.

Binding of Isaac is by design infinitely replayable, so that would be my first choice.

Also, the Borderlands games are very replayable because there are 4 different characters that are very different and require lots of time to unlock all of their features.

Any game that's good, really.

I can only think of a small handful of games, maybe three, that were good but that I don't want to replay.

As much as it sounds odd, Resident Evil 2 and 3 are, as Jim Sterling says, fun to play and ones i wanna play over and over again. I can't really describe it, but they to me have replay value.

any game that has multiple endings that are actually very different from each other unlike mass effect 3 based on your actions has a great replay value.
also some great classic games that never get old to play

New Vegas, Rome Total War, XCOM are probably the biggest 3 for me. It's always fun to crack out an old FF or crash Bandicoot now and then, too.

To be honest, I'll happily replay any game so long as it's good. I suppose, though, I've got several 'stand-by' games where I want something to get into quickly and easily, and for me at least these seem to be sandbox ones, especially RPGs, such as Skyrim, Just Cause 2, Arkham City, and the Fallout games (any one of them really, though New Vegas and 3 are probably the best to just pick up and play).

Games with different build options and combat styles.
exactly. I've probably replayed fire emblem (GBA 2003) like 10 different times because I could replay the game with different units each time and still viably beat the game.

Been playing the remake on the 360 recently and went straight to the third difficulty, its like 30 minutes just to understand what the fuck I am supposed to do and where to go lol. Timesplitters 2 also had that system of adding more objectives with each difficulty so I kind of get used to it, the thing is that the map design can be a bit confusing in some levels.

But yeah, this game has a lot of replay value and content, totally worth the 10$.

OT: I'm waiting for the MGS Collection to arrive and from what I have been seeing about it there is also a lot of content with a shitload of challenges (although it seems that most can be completed in about 3 minutes). MGS2 has 300 challenges and Peace Walker has about 100, dont know about MGS3 though.

Gears of War Judgement also looks like its going primarly after that goal of being a very replayable game wich is nice since the gameplay of the previous ones is quite good.

X-Com:EU has a shitload of replay value, its really one of the best games to keep playing for a long time.

Basically if I like a game enough, I can play it again no problem. Sure, built in replay value is good but i'm not that fussed with it.
Same for me and Kingdom Hearts, for the same reason you give.

OT: When I think 'replay value' my mind instantly goes to Dark Souls, for me at least.
I've sunk probably upwards of 450 hours into it over dozens of different character builds and challenges.
Hell, you could argue that replaying is a core part of the experience.

Any Megaman X related game (Zero, ZX Advent etc) I played them all multiple times trying to unlock every thing and always had a ton of fun, also Ratchet and Clank: Deadlocked I've heard a lot of people don't like this one cause its different from the norm but I found co-op with my friends incredibly fun for multiple playthroughs

MGS, MGS 3, ICO, and Shadow of the Colossus have a lot of replay value to me. Though I will admit any game as long as its good enough deserves a replay.

Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. The kind of games that you can play over and over to get higher ranks, try out different weapons and combos, try all the difficulty levels, all the advanced techniques. Hell I bought Bayonetta on the day it came out and I still haven't been able to beat Father Rodin.

How could you all forget Halo: Reach?

It's campaign is about 8 hours and rather difficult on legendary, there is a multiplayer function that is perfect, a map editor, theater mode, and horde mode. It's the one game that gives you more bang for your buck.

For single player, Saints Row 3 and Skyrim come to mind quite well.

The Rock Band series. I will play songs I enjoy over and over and over again.

Saints Row 2. Still my ultimate "screw around" game. I had hoped SR3 would replace it, but no.

Ratchet and Clank, Dead Space, games with the whole "new game +" feature that has been excluded from games lately.
I like starting the first level over again with all my stuff and kicking the ass of that boss who gave me trouble before, or letting me try out new tactics on older enemies and see how they react, maybe secret areas that can only be accessed with endgame items, ect.
I've played through each of the ratchet and clank games at last 5-6 times over.

Half Life 2. It is just well made and always fun to play. It just needs a time commitment to be fully immersed in it.

DMC3. Can play it anytime and still feel like I am missing half of the combat depth and style.

TF2. 9 classes. Many different weapons and play styles. Many different modes and maps. Did I mention the constant updates? It is just fun.

Rayman Origins. Time to do these time challenges

I am also in the camp of "If I can make different choices the second time around, its got serious replay value".

I have played ME (series) a couple of times through, Dragon Age Origins on third play through, Fallout I am working on a second play through etc etc.. I find that being able to take a character and make it my own in a story gives me the desire to play again, even if the end result is primarily the same.

Also, I find racing games have good replay value. It is kind of relaxing to just load in and drive around for a while, so always worth coming back to.

In before Dark Souls.

Dark Souls. Take a huge amount of flexibility for fighting, a vague narrative open to interpretation, and an awesome combat system and you get a finely crafted experience that's quite different than anything else that I've seen. It may have issues, but damn it's replayable.
I dunno if you can "inb4" a game that you're going to mention...

OT: Sonic the Hedgehog. More specifically the classic Genesis games and Generations. Fast-paced levels that can be completed in 2-4 minutes? Hell yeah.

Pokemon. Even though I generally play all of the games the same way, until Black&White I never really got bored of going through them again and again.

Mass Effect. The entire franchise. One of the few long titles I've gone through completely multiple times.

Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. Fantastic 3D platformers, though the last two levels and ending of the first start to wear thin pretty quickly... go to hell, "Rusty Bucket Bay"!
