Let me vent please, but FUCK Ark: Survival Evolved. This game leaves a great initial impression but then the cracks start to show an you rage quit. I'm too angry right now to be totally coherent so here are the bullet points that bloodily murdered the game for me:

- if your dinosaur is in a fight and you whistle it to follow you then run away, they will not actually follow you no matter if things are going bad

- flyers boot you off if you so much as graze water

- dinosaurs set on follow have a habit of getting in the way of your weapons

- some dinosaurs are impossible to tame solo (looking at you Quetz)

- FUCK ALPHA REXES

- friendly AI pathfinding is frankly appalling

I won't continue because the little stuff just keeps piling up to ruin the experience. It's frustrating because there is stuff I like here but as it is now, it is too poorly balanced for solo players.

What games did you end up falling out of love with?

H1Z1 - The games been in alpha for how long? Over 2 years now? I've clocked around 600 hours in King of the Kill during these years. I might've given it a break before but not anymore, the devs still seem to enjoy breaking the game with each update they bring out. Oh remember when they said they were going to get out of early access last summer? Well, they lied and it's still in early access and broken.

CSGO - I played this game ALOT in 2013 to late 2015, I've clocked almost 2000 hours in this game. But lately, Valve's been obsessed with updating the game with new guns, new sounds, new visuals (for better and worse) and other horseshit. Remember that you could spray graffiti in the older games? Well they brought it back, BUT you have to pay money and you can only use sprays that Valve created. Not only that, you can only use each spray maybe 50 times, then you have to buy a new one. This video explains what's wrong and been wrong with CSGO:

Hey Valve, instead of making glove skins, stickers and crappy new gun sounds you make your game better and release operations regularly?

Hm...I'm not entirely sure this counts, but:

Darkest Dungeon. When the game first came out for the PS4, I dove right in. Loved the art style, loved the challenge, loved the idea of people giving up while I would soldier on. Yes, it was hard, but eventually my characters would manage to reach the top of that cliff and then they could start climbing the next cliff.
And then I hit the level 5 and 6 dungeons and the game just became impossible. I'd level my characters up to level 5, and they'd get stomped in the first battle or two. I couldn't beat any of the dungeons, no matter how hard I tried. I started to run out of gold because I wasn't completing quests, thus I had no money to upgrade skills and weapons. I'd raise new characters, but they'd chew up gold and then get crushed. And then the bandit raid showed up and I finally just said, "Screw this game and it's bullshit!" and stopped. Uninstalled it, because I felt that it had gone beyond hard to straight unfair.

But then, months later, it started to eat at my mind again. I saw a video of someone playing it, and I remembered how much fun I had had at the start. And I checked the trophies, and as that the Platinum is super rare and only fifty people owned it. And I thought, "One last time. Once more into the abyss, and if it still kicks me in the face, I'm done."
This time, I went in prepared. I read guides, I planned ahead, I made sure I had a full understanding of EVERY class and how they played with each other. I knew what buildings to focus on upgrading first, and in what order.
And I am proud to say that I am now one of the few that own that platinum trophy.

So I went from loving a game to hating it to loving it again. Does that count?

Payday 2.

Used to love that game, played with my friends all the time, got pretty good at it. Everyone in our group had a role to fill and we knew the maps inside and out. We had a lot of fun, and between the 6 of us we bought all the DLCs (you only needed one person in your group to own a DLC for everyone to be able to play it).

Then the devs came out with their pay to win bullshit loot boxes, something they promised would never be in the game. The moment that happened I dropped this game and refused to ever touch it again. Doesn't matter that those micro-transactions have been removed now, the damage is done, the game is tainted, and I want nothing more to do with it.

I don't buy a lot of DLC for games, I can actually count the number of games that I've bought DLC for on one hand. Overkill broke their promise to the community, they burned me, and I will not buy another game from them.

Well, "love" and "hate" are a bit strong, but...

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Initially enjoyed it. Played it stealthily and every went smoothly enough. Didn't blow my mind but I finished it.

Maybe a year or so later I decided to replay it in a combative manner. Then everything just fell apart. As a shooter/action game it's garbage. The guns lack weight, enemy AI is simple, having to design everything to accommodate stealthy players makes the shooting piss easy since enemies are spread out and stand with their backs to the doors.

Add to that the common frustrations of being made to jog back and forth across the hub areas, the weird time-freeze cutscene takedowns, the nothing-much story and the languid fart of an ending and I rapidly lost any regard for the game.

I wouldn't say "hate" so much as "disillusioned with," but definitely Team Fortress 2. I can already see the eye rolls and hear exasperated mutterings of "there goes Neverhoodian bitching about TF2 again," so I'll try to keep it brief;

-Unbalanced weapon unlocks that weren't/aren't addressed for YEARS.

-Valve fucked over the game's original art style with a tsunami of gaudy cosmetics.

-The game is an unoptimized mess now thanks to years of tacked-on spaghetti code.

-What was once an incredibly friendly, tight-knit community slowly turned toxic after the F2P update.

-The slow, agonizing death of decent community servers thanks to Quickplay and matchmaking.

-Whoring the game out as a glorified virtual casino with the bullshit "Mannconomy" and crates.

-Inserting lore (cringe-worthy lore at that) for a setting that needed none.

Seeing TF2's decline over the years has been heartbreaking for me, as it used to be my all-time favorite multiplayer game. There was a time when it lived up to the blurb on the box that stated it was "the most fun you can have online." No hats, no gimmicks, no bullshit. Just beautiful visuals, tight gameplay, endearing characters and one of the friendliest communities I've ever had the pleasure being a part of. Now all of that is gone.

metal gear solid 5.. my first entry into a series i had ignored completely.

initially i was enjoying the stealth sneaking around the open world. infiltrating bases, etc and then i picked up the character quiet..tacky fan service to say the least but what raised an eyebrow for me is that the game went from sneaking around to "lets just send her to clean out a base before i arrive".

they gave me an NPC who was infinitely better at the game than the character you control.

the final straw for me was battling to get my head around the plot and i honestly dont understand why kojima is so revered. someone definitely needs to confiscate his LSD stash

* Whistle it to passive and then it will follow, a pain yes, but could save your dino.

- flyers boot you off if you so much as graze water

* Infuriating, but not really dangerous, till you get to SE or The Center and lava acts the same way, with deadly consequences to you and your flyer (R.I.P. Azazel - 246 lightening wyvern)

- dinosaurs set on follow have a habit of getting in the way of your weapons

*Weapons, other walking dinos, you name it.

- some dinosaurs are impossible to tame solo (looking at you Quetz)

* Not impossible, just not easy, ask a alpha tribe to borrow their Quetz trap, or do what we did, wait out the timers on a base... LOL

- FUCK ALPHA REXES

* LOL alpha Rexes? Please, wild giga, Titans, alpha fucking mosa, and they felt the need for alpha squid? What? Alpha Death Worms, and a Alpha Wyvern are pants shitting experiences.

- friendly AI pathfinding is frankly appalling

* Oh yes.

*It's not poorly balanced for solo players, Ark is not intended for solo players, at least on official servers.

What games did you end up falling out of love with?
Reached 1195 hours on Ark and Scorched Earth, started a black smith in a really primitive tribe, now the owner of an alpha tribe.

View on SE, while taming a 150 carno to do the mega cave with.

My raised 180 Giga, 100 percent imprint, currently 193.3 melee, Alpha rex do not survive an encounter with her.

Killing an Alpha Rex then a Titan.

Find a tribe a good one, game is addicting after that. On topic, I don't think I have ever had that happen.

Assassin's Creed. It was the first "next gen" game I played on the PS3. I was liking it in the beginning. It looked and played great. I loved the exploration. Even travelling between towns on horseback and climbing the radio towers was enjoyable. But as the game went on the repetition really started to wear on me, mainly in regards to the information gathering aspect. As I recall there were nine main assassinations. First three I was loving it. Next three I was starting to get annoyed. Last three I was just rushing through to get it over with. I had already invested so much time in it that I wanted to see it through to the end. The final mission, which mainly involved fighting a whole bunch of dudes at once, was the final slap in the face.

I am aware that some of the later games (mainly 2 and 4) are supposed to be better but I have no desire to give the series another go.

Guild Wars 2

I used to ADORE that game on release especially when I played and loved Guild Wars.

Overtime the game became more of a powercreep or rather the constant need of ascended (top most rarity) and aswell having the exact builds to take on the higher tier stuff like the fractual.

With the release of the expansion, it became clear my playstyle no longer matches the game preference style since the new maps had hourly long events and I just start to play the game less and less. Yes I know you can just hop into the big event near the end but it just no longer worth it.

Now that they just adding those post expansion game stories, I just now gave up on the game as I am no longer motiviated to keep on playing. Maybe it is the added lack of friends or community to be apart of is keeping me not being attach to it these day. I do get lonely playing it now. Ok yes I am a part of a guild or two but I am not close with them.

Metal Gear Solid V. Was so excited for it having become a rather recent MGS fan (got the MGS collection ad beat basically the whole series in like, a month or two).

Fuck the end of the game if it is literal. Plus it tried to combine Peace Walker with Open World and suffered for it. Open world is pointless if it is just all spent traveling to the cool places. If you dont have things to do between point A and B, dont make your game open world.

2016? Doom...same gameplay loop, again and again, that outstays it's welcome, fast. At least SP was mercifully short.
Lately, Conan Exiles. Love anything based on R.E Howard works, what a damn shame this kind of setting is wasted on endless grind.
Plus it's combat makes Skyrim feel like Bayonetta in comparison.

Like almost everyone else, this isn't so much "love-hate" but rather "like-dislike" for me. 3D Collecatathons. I played tons of them back when I was a young and proud owner of an N64. Recently, I decided to jump back in and play Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie using an emulator since my old N64 tanked years ago.

Those games really lost their challenge now that I knew 3D controls like the back of my hand, and understandably, it seemed like the game's challenge was mostly designed for people who had never played a 3D game before. Also, the camera in both games was pretty awful.
I eventually realized I was playing it just for the sake of completing it, and wasn't really having any fun with the game itself.

NHL 94.

I was never very big on sports games, but I had that one friend who was into sports, who always got me sports games for my Super Nintendo when it was my birthday. Anyway, I was a little kid with no disposable income, so I played it and really got into it. I loved how easy it was to score goals. I never missed. Just circle around behind the goal, skate past the front and shoot and it went in every time. As a little kid who loved winning, I thoroughly enjoyed that.

Of course, as I grew up, developed confidence in my gaming skill, and started seeking challenge, that exploit quickly became a flaw rather than a reason to love the game. Also, with a full library of Steam games, a PS3, and an XBox360 on hand, I no longer feel desperate enough to even bother with a game like that.

I think I'll also add NCAA Football, another easily exploitable SNES sports game my friend got me.

Was going to say this but you summarized my thoughts on TF2 perfectly.

That being said I will add Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. Loved this game as a kid, I put countless hours into it but it became unplayable when my sister scratched the disc. I had good memories playing that game that I repurchased it about 2 years ago on a nostalgic whim.

Holy Crap!

The game is a mess in every aspect except visuals (the fog is pretty bad though). The controls are clunky and stiff. The level design is boring and repetitive. However, the worst aspect is the humor and voice acting. Calling it dated and cringe-worthy is an understatement. I had to turn off voice volume in options in my last play through. I forced myself to finish that play through if only to have closure even though I was not enjoying it. I will never play that game again.

Old school 3D platformers like Super Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot 2/3 are still a blast to play for comparison.

Surprised I haven't seen a lot of "Mass Effect 3" answers.
Maybe because the start was already a step down from Mass Effect 2; so fans never got to "love" it before the ending.

OT: Too early to say, but I think it's happening with Resident Evil VII. Two words: Jack Baker! Not as cool or scary as Nemesis, and much more annoying.

League of Legends. I still like the game and played it for 5 years but fuck the people who play it. It felt like every game had a 50/50 chance that someone on either team would baby rage and make the match pointless. Add to that riots balancing that always had a character out of control and the huge jungle changes every season and it becomes far more frustrating than fun. Haven't touched it in a year and I think I'm much better off for it.
