Most recent would be Katawa Shoujo. I would never even have heard of the game if it wasn't for that one Critical Miss comic. I saw the comic and went "Why the hell not? It is free after all :D" And I fell in ;ove with both that game and an entire genre of games.

Some other of note would be Shadow of the Colossus, The Walking Dead and Heavy Rain.

Thank you so much escapist for providing me with these amazing works of frikken art!

Spec Ops: The Line.

The last thing I remember hearing outside of here made it sound like a boring military shooter with a not-particularly-interesting gimmick involving sand. Thanks to a lot of discussion on this site and several recommendations from the users here, I tried it.

While the gameplay was - in fact - a boring military shooter with a not-particularly-interesting gimmick involving sand, the game contains one of the most impressive narrations and some of the most impactful moments in any games in my recent memory.

The Walking Dead, Spec Ops: The Line, Lone Survivor and soon X:COM-EU. Ironically I felt compelled to buy it after reading a thread on why it was broken.
Was that the thread that I managed to get shut down with pure unrequited fury?
One of them yes :p. It also had tippy I believe. 2K should hire you guys as marketers honestly, you guys are great.

Also you mention Katawa Shoujo so I suppose that means I can mention it too. Alongside Saya no Uta >.>.

Katawa Shoujo here as well never heard about it until people started talking about it on this site I was pretty dubious about whether I would like it but I thought ah well I will try it as its free and I was hooked absolutely loved it.

Other than that I have never been influenced to buy anything from this site most of what people go on about I already know about to a greater or lesser extent as for Okami I think I was 50% of the people who bought it on release frikkin love that game I didnt bother with the HD remake tho as theres only so many times I can play it.

Add me in for another Walking Dead related post. Jeeze, Telltale should pay some of us for advertizing it for them.

Spec Ops: The Line, Bastion, Portal, The Walking Dead and Driver San Francisco.

Spec Ops became my Nr 1 of all times, Portal made me laugh no game before and all of them were very enjoyable experiences. Thanks Escapist for making my life a lot brighter.

Honorable mention to Alpha Protocol, which was flamed as often as it was praised and which I bought regardless.

Not really, but I have been considering FTL because a certain Brit has been blabbering on about it.

It's what I'm trying with Klonoa too, amazing game. Hasn't snagged anyone who's new to it but a few people have messaged me thanks for making them remember such an awesome thing.

Ones I've bought because of the Escapist though are in the hundreds though.
I'll just list some of my most memorable recent ones;
Tokyo Jungle (thank you Susan)
Journey
Persona
Gravity Rush
FTL
and X-com.
All loved thoroughly.

Recently their was The Walking Dead and To The Moon. With TWD it was during one of the steam sales that people kept posting about it. I was on the fence for the longest time but I finally caved and enjoyed the ever loving hell out of it.

With TTM, it was during a very recent daily deal where someone made a long post about it. It got me to go in on that game too, though I must say I have been dragging my feet on playing it.
Oh I remember the To The Moon thread! It devolved into post after post of spoiler boxes, it was pretty funny XD

You should just marathon To The Moon. Find an afternoon where you have nothing else to do and just play it until you hit the credits. It's not very long at all and I think the story is easier to appreciate if you're not taking prolonged breaks so you forget everything.

I mean the game isn't *that* good story-wise. It certainly tries to be but it falls flat in a substantial number of areas in my opinion. I still like the description of the music the one guy on that thread gave me:

"It's like the music was generated from a computer set to Teary Eyed Mode"

Amusingly true XD

Mark of the Ninja and it was truly worthy of its praise. But WTF was up with the ending? It didn't totally came out of left field but it somehow left me empty inside.

I'm going to go with the Ace Attorney series, the Professor Layton series, and Ghost Trick. None of them really caught my attention, but people on this site gave them high recommendations, so I figured I'd check them out. Glad I did, because I've loved each and every one of them. Especially Ghost Trick and Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. Who knew puzzle games could have such strong, emotional stories.

I must admit that I didn't like the look of Saints row 2 when it first came out, as I don't really like games such as Grand theft auto, but, on watching Yahtzee's review of the game, I picked it up for £15, and I must say it's one of the most fun games I have ever played.

Sadly, no user has given enough praise of a game for me to play it

Sad, but true

Would you kindly give me some recommendations, if you care too?
My dear Taco I hearby Recommend to you To go out and play the mount and blade series -warband is the best- I remeber when I was a young lad and so fellow on ye olde escapist was talking about how good it was I had no money but the fabled steam sale did come and I bought it and I was transported to a epic world of war starting as a Peasant I soon worked my way up the realm and then decided to become my own king then I modded the game a bunch
