I'd like to see an Elder Scrolls in Elsweyr or Black Marsh, because every time they're described in other games they sound a lot cooler and dangerous than wherever you happen to be.

A real Post-apocalypse-y dystopia survival game that doesn't get really easy too quickly like Fallout 3 and NV...

Something that has SWERY and David Lynch in the director's and writer's chair, hat would be fun, albeit mental...

I would like to see:
-More old school JRPGs that use Pre-Rendered backgrounds. I friggin love these things and I think this is something that Square could do as an interesting experiment, a return to formula if you will. It wouldn't require many resources to make, as pre-rendered backdrops are ancient, it also wouldn't take that long to produce. Some amazing RPG experiences are games using these backdrops and whilst being a wonderful aesthetic choice allow more time to be allocated to the development of story and whatnot. Of course adding pre-rendered backdrops to a game won't make an instant masterpiece, but I think they're really nice and deserve a to make another appearance. ^_^

Uhm... If you're thinking pre-rendered backdrops like in the Final Fantasy series, I'm pretty sure it would still require a lot of resources. You see, instead of just making a digital painting, they start with modelling and sculpting the entire scene (high poly), then unwrap and texture it, then take various renders of said scene from the same angle (but in different layers) after which they add the extra detail through digital painting. And then you just have one, single screen.

That said, I love pre-rendered backdrops to death and would also like to see more of them - especially since in this day and age, our hardware can project backdrops of larger sizes, making sure a beautiful paint isn't reduced to a pixelated nightmare. Seriously, just follow the link I posted above, look at how sharp the original backdrops for Final Fantasy IX were. Imagine if they would re-release Final Fantasy IX, but simply change the backgrounds with the original, high-res versions.

OT:

1) PSOne Final Fantasy games with their original CG backdrops intact (because of this post). And while we're at it, give FF IX a new ending. And a prequel, so we know just what happened with Zidane and Freya two years prior.

2) A new game in the style of Ratchet & Clank or Jak & Daxter, without it actually being either of those. Simply put: an original action/adventure/platformer title with solid gameplay, cartoony graphics and an enjoyable storyline with plenty of humor.

3) A game that is just whack. And I don't mean your average "silly" or "quirky" or even Hotline Miami style "brutal". I mean just pure crazy, like the developers were just pooling all their fever dreams in one single game. Like an anthropomorphic pocket-watch-grinding rabbit wielding a pair of nunchucks forged from two 12-gauge shotguns, who has the ability to rotate the play-field in all three dimensions at will, within a world that is constantly evolving based on an algorithm that takes in account the beats of the heavy background music and the amount of enemies you shoot to shreds lining up with said beat. Or something like that, I don't know, I'll tell you next time I wake up in my bed covered in sweat with a blaring headache.

Also there's something appealing about playing a sociopath who takes what they want and disregards anyone else, like the Joker. It's a nice power trip without having to hurt anyone. Oh don't give me that look, that's the whole appeal of going on a rampage in GTA.

And it'd be interesting to play the lowest of the low. Nice contrast from playing the hero everyone praises to playing a scumbag that everyone hates and treats with disgust.

I like variety.

This. I'm getting tired of the fact that people are always playing the hero. I don't hate humanity, it's just getting dull to constantly save it. A game which truely lets me be evil instead of just going "YOU STOLE FROM A SHOP. BAD MAN" evil. I want to kill that town over there because I'm bored, but nope too evil.

A non-movie tie-in Hunger Games game. You'd participate in 24 man matches, with spectators that act as the sponsors from the books. Before the match begins, you'd get to train in a bunch of skills which will allow you to survive better, deal more damage, etc.

I want a game that's a combination of: Quest for glory, Skyrim, and harry potter, hear me out on this.
The gameplay would be the first person rpg skyrim style, with a saint's row 2 level of character creation that you could spend hours on molding your neophyte student. The setting would be like hogwarts, kinda. A school for wizards (and other... classes! haha) where you would sign up for different courses, which would determine your build, like, spellcraftery, swordfighting, dungeoneering, so on and so forth. from Quest for glory i want the puzzles, and how different skillsets would solve the puzzles in unique and interesting ways finally, i want it as a sandbox, but with a time limit, making you responsible for being on time for things like: classes, field trips, lunch, dates (throw in dating sim elements like persona 4 as well) etc. all in all, it will be a really expansive, deep, immersive world.


also, an mmorpg based on the world of Munchkin. I would play that so hard

I was thinking about a World of Tanks style FPS. Where you start of with old school guns, and as you progress up the tiers, gain access to more modern weapons and armor. Maybe going all the way to some kind of experimental power armor and railguns. Rather then the health regen thing that's in CoD or the hit-points system, it could have a realistic damage model like whats used in War Thunder. Major organs and arteries would all be taken into account and would effect your character in different ways. So getting shot in one area may cause you to bleed out or go into shock, while getting shot in another area with no critical points may be hardly noticeable. The maps would be really large playing fields, and getting killed once would mean your out of the match.

Could make for some interesting emphasis on taking cover and waiting for opportunities rather then rushing in, particular if there were major consequences for dying.

I want an action RPG with a combat system courtesy of those who worked on Arkham Asylum, a story from the writers of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (first linear game that came to mind with decent writing whose tone was what I was looking for*) and environment and character/creature design from the people who worked on El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron and Folklore (both of these games are gorgeous but are sorely lacking in the story and combat department). I have no idea what comes out of that cauldron but it will be glorious.

*Also up for consideration was the writing staffs of Spec Ops (not quit the tone I was thinking of) and Bioshock (we don't need another ______shock just yet).

This idea is just a thematic concept and includes no gameplay mechanics to go along.

I've imagined myself making a game that convinces players to actively take part in a Holocaust-analog. It can't use the actual Holocaust or anything recognizable because players will instantly realize that something is wrong. It would be tough, but I would find it awesome if a game could put somehow recreate the conditions which led to otherwise normal people being O.K. with the Nazis in power. Put people in the shoes of an average schmuck during hard times being bombarded with propaganda, which doesn't feel like propaganda but almost like a tutorial, and in a setting that's unfamiliar enough (use aliens or mutants off the top of my head) that you can't instantly make the connection.

Yes, it would be somewhat like Spec Ops, where they make you do horrible stuff but more open ended. Like when you finally disobey, it might end up with you getting shot, but the credits roll in at that point like you just figured it out and in fact "won" by dying. The whole point being trying to show that while people might think they're above it, given certain situations anyone can be convinced that some really crazy stuff is right.

I really like your idea, although I think it would be difficult to execute. I think most of the impact would come only if the true nature of the game was kept hidden. Also I am not too sure if there will really be any gameplay like that of a console game. However, that is thinking of it as more of a store marketed console/pc downloadable game. I could realistically see this happen as a simple internet game - kind of like AlterEgo where you could pick choices and relive your life in a different way based around choices you make in game. A game like that allowed a person to theoretically simulate what could happen in life depending on what they could have chosen to do. A game like yours could have a person try and live out their life in a situation like that you propose, but in the end you could end up really becoming brainwashed into having this life that agrees with the evil power. In AlterEgo, there were decisions you made which affected personality, strength, aggressiveness, and other factors. Perhaps in living out your life you can make decisions like that as well, in parallel to living in this hostile type world. Decisions you made in the past could affect what you might be able to do in the future (giving into actions in the past could make you do certain actions that would seem horrible because based on how you reacted in the past it would be unlikely you would say no to this horrible act). I really like this idea though.

A remake of Mutant League Hockey on the next-gen. Different game modes to include a sim mode close to an NHL game, an arcade-type mode with more over the top violence and wackiness, and an annihilation mode where the object is essentially to kill the other team. Create-a-Mutant, a GM mode to build a team from scratch into a dynasty. I think it has epic potential.

I wanna see a text-based flight sim/fighter combat game. that would be interesting.
An RPG concept I call "Magnagolem" in which rather than having health and armor bars you have HP that lose permanently, with individual bars for head, torso, and each limb. but you can absorb armor from your foes that adds another bar. Your character model would quickly become AWESOME. Unless i had to make it myself in which case it would look REALLY UGLY and be full of glitches.
