What the game truly needs is a tag that says "not for the faint of heart".

While WoW caters to the mass, FFXIV is after its own audience. Is this a million dollar idea? I honestly can't say. But one thing for sure--this is how the game is meant to be.

I point you to The World in .//hack.

Can you notice some similarity?

Yeah..this thing is the Japanese' wet dream of an MMO. And frankly, I really like the idea as well.

Besides, it's the popular thing to bash FF nowadays. Every gaming outlet that bash FF since FF10 had their cred upped by 15 levels. Clearly that little trick is still working.
But G.U. and Link both turned The World into something fun, by speeding it up.
They took Link and GU and westernized them, not improving them.

There's a reason that strategy and turn-based is still an emphasis on this side of the pond, while button mashing action had always been how things are done in the US.
'westernized' really thats what your going with? they removed all the menu traversing which was a huge complaint when they did the online .hack ORPG, if ANYTHING they took more cues from Kingdom Hearts or Devil May Cry.

The fact that .Hack became a better series for it says a lot.

Sounds like a case of putting far too much time and effort into the graphics, and far too little effort into considering the overall game design.

Are you talking about F1 2010 here? :D
Har har har...

F1 2010 has a few issues that'll be fixed up shortly, yeah. But it's still extremely fun and playable. Plus, they didn't even get to finish DX11 in it so you can hardly claim they spent too much time on graphics. I think, overall, F1 was a bit rushed but I've had a very good experience with it so far, no major issues have cropped up.

It does seem like SE is listening to some extent and are (slowly) fixing things. They released an update last night that fixed some of the issues that have been a real problem for players and apparently they have some kind of fix for the market coming next week. I don't know if it's a full blown auction house, but something is coming.

So yeah, maybe by the March and the PS3 release comes this will be a playable game.

I don't know about that. Not that they aren't planning updates to fix it, but weren't these things they should've listened to people about when they got them all to be free Beta testers earlier this year instead of waiting for the paying customers to do the Beta testing.

Definitely. I'm not saying that they haven't messed up big time (because they have) but that at least some of the things mentioned in the review will probably get fixed.

I won't lie i have the game and it's not that good i think it got the score that it deserves i played it for about 2 weeks and i was still in the first damn town because it doesn't tell you what to do

And yes they are loseing there touch i wish they would just got back to the basics when it came to RGP's because they where awosome back then and really why did they have to change so much nowadays considering that most new RPG's are just ok nowadays when back in the old days they kicked ass and are still being played all the time.
I say go back to the basics and see what you did back then and consider what you could do the make your games better but knowing squire they won't.
Because when things don't change they stagnate, start to smell, then die. Then the company sells you parts of the rotting carcass. A series won't survive if it refuses to change, and I can't help but feel that nostalgia has a large part of why people play those old games. These games need to change, but they also must be very careful not to change for the worse. I also highly doubt that an old school RPG would translate well to an MMO.

I wouldn't hold your breath though. From what I hear they had months of beta in which they fixed basically nothing and there are so many things they need to fix, and on top of that there is so much content they need to make.

The team is probably scrambling just to make content for the mid levels, let alone the end game, let alone fixing whatever problems held back the PS3 release, and on top of that fixing the abysmal UI, adding an auction house, adding a mail system, fixing the broken crafting requirements, making so partying is actually worthwhile and making the world less bland and adding more than the meager early game content that exists now...

First and foremost, I NEVER pay attention to metacritic. Metacritic says a lot of shit that turns out to be pretty much dead wrong.
How dense are you? Metacritic posts nothing but facts - scores and links to reviews of other places. It says nothing by itself, it aggregates. It's obvious you do never pay attention to Metacritic though, otherwise you wouldn't be spewing bullshit like that.
Metacritic is a tool for fanboys to shove a game down my throat after I said I didn't like it. Metacritic doesn't take my opinion into account so I fail to see why metacritic overrides my opinion. I'm never going to allow metacritic to influence my tastes. If you choose to let that be the case for you, that's your business. But don't accuse me of being dense when you're the one who can't make an informed opinion for yourself.
So you are that dense. Thanks for confirming. Metacritic lists every review out there that they can find, so that you can read multiple opinions instead of just one.

Still giving it a fair chance... I am enjoying the time I spend in the game. There are some obstacles but I am enjoying figuring it all out instead of being hand held like WoW.

Wow, what's with all the Gamespot hate? The Kane and Lynch thing was bad, but I've never really found them to give a dishonest review. They back up their score with valid reasons.

Can't say I'm surprised by this score in the least by judging all the video and info I have seen about XIV, it looks fucking horrible. Squenix needs to fucking wake the hell up!

Lol this is just silly. I thought the escapist was better then this. Were judging a game on the mainstreem reveiws? The people who give games like mgs4 and gta4 and 10? You guys are just saying saures done for what? You think its a bad game for not playing. I have a small gaming group and well all loved FF11 and this game is great to. So let us who enjoy it enjoy it. Stop trollin i'd swear this is game faqs someday. Square is still amazing and never dissipoints. Ya'll just seem to be fanboys. Somone hates on FF everyone agrees. I hate on Bioshock/Mass effect i get a warning from the mods. Ludacris.

You know what the funniest crap thing about FFXIV is? How pathetic so many of the enemies are.

You better be at least rank 10 before you think about taking on a dodo. It's like hey, those flightless, defenseless extinct birds are pretty hardcore. You better grind some rats before you think of taking one of those guys on. Then you can grind the dodos and maybe work your way up to a goat.

What's really baffling about all this is that I really enjoyed FFXI for the time I played it. So it's not like they were incapable of making a fun MMO. All they had to do to was keep the same formula.

It just seems like they were too focused on changing and "improving" everything, that they wound up removing everything that made FFXI fun.

You should see what happens if you say something negative about Minecraft or Valve. Seriously I thinik they send one of their agents to...

Valve and Minecraft are both extremely incredible companies and games respectively. Mass Effect and Bioshock have both redifined what games should be while Final Fantasy has seen it;s better days and should be cancelled as a series.

Hopefully
Everyone

This is an MMO right? So in 6 months it could be a glorious shining piece of entertainment wonderment. Once Square Enix gets ahold of 4/10 scores they will hastily work on adjustments and fixes and patches.

Give the game a month or two, then come back to it. If it sucks then too, then we can all harp on Square Enix (if you haven't already been doing so).

I'll stick to my Phantasy Star Universe/Online.
The only MMO I could really stomach.
