I don't know, Tom, I think you're reading into it a bit too much.

War3 was $60, but I think WoW was only $50 at launch, wasn't it? They haven't announced pricing for SC2 yet either, and we're bound to get that before D3. I think this is just GameStop pulling stuff out their ass at the moment.
Agreed, this is just Gamestop hoping to get a stock hike out of us.

Man, I'd kill for RRP's of $60 US right now.
If you hadn't guessed, I live in Australia- and at current conversion rates, $60 US is about $65 Australian- which is $25 less than the Steam version of Modern Warfare 2 out here. :(

According to Modern Warfare 2 [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?sku=640013&affID=77777&sourceID=ZiU6tGn4Hc0-NIiN3PKhlGsgr1h7FzWGug], and it looks like either GameStop or another entity wants to keep PC game prices this way.
is anyone else missing the connection here?

Modern Warfare 2 made by Activision
Diablo 3 made by Activision, sure Blizzard and Activision are two parts of the whole but i don't think this is a coincidence

as much as we might like Blizzard i think that time of them being a super cool and awesome company are slowing going away

Ill probably pay the $60 because I <3 Diablo, kind of significant considering I haven?t paid for a PC game in over 3 years. I was going to pay for Star Craft 2 until it became 3 games. Yar!

I do believe Diablo 2 at the release costed over 160 PLN. That's a lot. Right now that would be around 40 EUR or almost $60, so I don't fall into despair yet.

Besides, they have no proof. And even if, it's Diablo 2. Come on, Diablo 2!! We all had 10 years to get the cash for it...

Yes, I'm a D2 fanboy.

MW2 was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.

Diablo 3 is developed by Blizzard and published by ... Blizzard. They still self-publish all of their games.

C'mon, this is bullshit if this is true. I implore the rest of you guys to NOT buy the game if it comes out at $60. If you are going to pay that much, then it is giving them permission to charge that amount for ALL games, whether they are crap or not. Do not let them take advantage of you! We all built them up to where they are now, and we don't owe them anything. Never mind the fact that WoW has made them so much money they could afford to give D3 and SC2 away for free.

Oh, and on Blizzard's "Great" games, did you know that they released at patch that breaks WC3's main campaign, and they still haven't fixed it? This is inexcusable!

Really, if no one buys the game, and waits for the inevitable $50 price point, then you send the right message, and it gives you time to play other gems like Sacred 2 or Borderlands. There ARE other options to Diablo 3, and charging us more money just because we will pay it is an insult. No one fell for this bullshit when Sony pulled it with the PS3, what gives Blizzard the free pass?

Yeah, but doesn't WoW charge a truckload to actually play it?

About time. Just assuming 50 became standard 10 years ago. 2.5% inflation (low) shouldn't games be like 62bucks? So heck your getting more for your money now even at 60.

I don't see why all the QQ . It's Diablo III, not some average game. And if I think back at how much replayability Diablo II had, I'll be glad if it won't have a monthly fee.

That is pushing it. If they want to charge the extra 10$ they lose my purchase altogether. I already hate parting with my money as I am but a poor lowly college student, I ain't ginving Activision another cent.
Yeah... we've been paying more than this. For years. People still buy games, the world doesn't end, no one gets shot.

Hard to believe, but it happens.

I'm really hoping this doesn't become a trend, PC gaming (in my opinion) is on thin ice with the average consumer. Hell for some people I think the $10 is a significant factor in purchasing a copy for the PC instead of on a console. (Assuming the game is available for the console and not in this case only for the PC.) I'd hate to have the PC turn into an entity that only gets certain niche games like RTS or MMOs. That and a $10 price hike in the US will probably translate to a gouge for me because I live in a country where most games translate out to $75-80 (assuming I can even get an english copy).

Sacred 2? A gem? That's hardly what I'd call it.

And no, there aren't other options besides Diablo III. I've been hoping for this game for so long, I'll be damned if I let a measly extra $10 stand in my way.

A subscription fee is where I draw the line. I absolutely refuse to spend extra money every month for a game I've bought. That was the chief reason I quit WoW, and I won't be suckered into doing the same thing again, no matter what the title.

Has no one here heard of inflation? Every year, you get less and less work out of a game developer for the same amount of dollars due to the constantly rising cost of living. This means two things:

1. Crappier games, since you're putting in the same amount of cash and getting less.
-OR-
2. Price increases to bring the equation back into balance.

And wanna know the neat thing? Unless you've got a very odd job, you probably make more now than you did when games first started being $50 at least a decade ago. Furthermore $50 has less value than it did ten years ago.

You know what that means? You've paid less and less for games every year they've remained at $50. Every year, you're getting an automatic discount by economic principle as long as they aren't raising prices to meet inflation. And every year, they're eating that loss. It can't last that way forever. Game prices will have to rise to meet inflation.

The outrage over this is just astounding. Boycotts? Ranting about the travesty of evil game companies screwing poor gamers? Threats of piracy?

This has been a long time in coming, and isn't a bad thing unless you're incredibly short-sighted.

P.S.: One day, the same thing is going to happen to MMOs, and the industry standard will become $20/month. You're going to get all outraged at that too, despite games like EverQuest costing a lot less per month than they did five years ago (again, constant price not keeping up with inflation).
