Gaming Concepts That Would Revolutionize the Industry or at Least Make for a Good Game

I want to play a game that has a full scope of characters and setting, and rather than propel one protagonist through a series of killings, I have control over the whole flow and which way the story goes. Imagine American Gangster if you could make Denzel Washington win, or Russel Crowe make up with his wife. Or Pirate of the Carribean (with all its wacky subplots) and you could push and pull at who gets to be winning at any given time.

That's one thing I liked about The Bouncer, to be honest... the fact that at different times, controlling different characters told you their stories and you got to play different parts of the same storyline.

A game that comes with next to nothing.

You boot up the game and a wireframe person is standing there in a white never ending plain just like Assassins Creed. the only thing it can do is walk around.

The developer supplies say 3 maps, 10 basic voices, a skinning tool, a level editor, an A.I editor, an event creator and an Animator for the movements of the game. There is probably a few more things for this.

All this can be extremely intuitive

The people who pay say $30 for this game can then Mod it to thier hearts content.

Once they have created their game they can upload the creation to the Store and sell them for $2 each. The Dev takes 50c and the creator of the mod gets $1.50

This sounds like a cool idea. And it belongs to me. Mwahahahahaha

My dream concept?

Heirachical battles, so like this.

One player has an RTS view of the battlefield, he can build buildings and upgrade units...

who are players, who play an FPS shooter, under the orders of the 'overlord'

They have no map and their skill determines which squads win, the overlord buys them bodies and weapons, and can pt markers on their HUD.

That would be sweet.

Or! a world-wide RTS, with many players, from regiment commanders up to world controllers who callously ask their underlings to take france for gods sake.
You just described "Savage", which, btw, you can download for free. You can be the overlord, or the FPS whatever dude.
i downloaded savage on your advice.

Allow me to rephrase my dream vision.

a good hierarchical RTS, savage is a beautiful concept ruined through poor design choices and lackluster combat. I enjoyed it at first despite its flaws but found myself tiring after only an hour or so.

I want savage done better, and if that existed i would never leave my room again.

I would be very interested in a game in which time manipulation took a major part. (I will burn you if you say Timesplitters or Timeshift. Blinx I might exempt, though.)
What about Prince of Persia (the Sands of Time trilogy)? Those were heavy on time manipulation, except Warrior Within which doesn't count.
Those didn't occur to me.

How about one where the A.I. for your allies didn't suck.

One in which your allies actually killed the enemies.

And how about one where, if you're hiding and your allies are standing in the middle of nowhere, the enemys actually tried to shoot them instead of pointlessly shooting the wall or sandbags which you are hiding behind.

Hmm, I like "turning point fall of liberty"'s concept, take a {in}famous historical event and skew the living shit out of it. In theory that's a good idea but then we'll have this in the near future...

My stuff's more along the lines with how they make the game. Something so awesome that it doesn't need to meet up to real standards. Like weird games that have no purpose. Take a shooter under my vision of strange, avant-garde games. A shooter where the load times are impossibly long, frequent, and annoying, and from about 4 minutes into the game onward, there's a set time limit. But it keeps going through the loading zones. Then an impossible last challenge so that the only way you can win is by cheating. And then, during the final cutscene, cutscene action commands that are impossible to meet, resulting in your death if you fail them. Like spinning both control sticks, hitting (On the Xbox) XYBBBBBBXBYBXBABYBXRTRBLBLBLBLBLBLBLB, A+start+select+RT+LT.

But instead of being agonizingly awful, it'd be in a humorous way. And what I'm thinking of would be a short, cheap Steam-styled download or packaged in/game mode of some bigger, good game so you get a funny little game that costs little or nothing to you(in addition to an actual well-made game)

You know, something interesting along those lines.Oh! Or a super-tough game where when you meet the final boss, you get all your weapons and moves taken away, excluding a simple punching motion. It is implied they will kill you dead no matter what, until you try it 2,000,000 times. All you have to do is circle around to his back, and punch him. That's it, you win.

I think that as a game would be awesome. We have too many bland games trying to be real, and too many trying to be fantastical. Why can't we just have some that are surreal?

Alright, just a little nitpick. Halo wasn't the first to do cover it was GoW. I have no idea why halo was so popular it wasn't innovative or anything. Oh well.

My idea for a game is that there's (read the whole thing don't be a dick and see the words and be like you're stupid that's been done) time travel. Except instead of you not aging when you time travel you age really fast like you travel two hundred years and you age two hundred years in less than a second. You travel through time really fast but you age fast too.

Here's where the gameplay comes in. The military (being so smart) realizes this could make an awesome weapon and develops it into a gun that shoots concentrated bubbles of time travel. Say you get hit in the gut and all of a sudden your midsection is gone and all that is left is really brittle bone. Also, if you miss and hit the ground or someone's cover, the cover ages however many years and if you hit the ground a tree springs up out of nowhere. So you could basically plant a forest for cover in front of you. I also think it'd be really cool if you got shot in the head you would see the future from the exact same spot you're standing until, eventualy, a big nuclear explosion goes off in the distance.

People come up with shields to protect from this and eventually bullets get left by the wayside. Until someone thinks of this idea to make guns more effective. So like a sniper rifle has a regular bullet that, when it hits something then stops, it releases a time bubble. That way it gets through the time shield but also kills them quickly.

At the rate we are advancing technilogicaly we double all the knowledge we have gained up to that point, every year. So the idea of us still using projectile weapons by Halo's time span (the 2500's)is ludicrous since we would have past projectile weapons by far by then.

Right now we have prototype lasers on Boeing 757's that can shoot down other plains. The only reason we don't have gun versions is because of the size that is required for lasers. That laser takes up the entirety of the 757. The 747 is the one they use for passengers and 747 is humongous.

There a re a few I want to see:

One is realistic health. For instance a shot to the head and chest and you're dead, to the arms and legs than that leg or arm is out. A shot to the gut and you're bleeding but not out.

The other is a map of the world. All of it. The entire world (or atleast a large amount of it) in a videogame. I doubt this will ever happen but damn it would be cool.
Sounds alot like Operation Flashpoint, sadly it was just three large islands tho.
Kudos to Operation Flashpoint - just more proof that if you make a totally original game, people will just say "Meh, its nothing like Halo" and move on.
I hail flashpoint to be orignal and fucking awesome. Made some really great freinds on it and stuff. If the second one is like the first but with better graphics, more immersion, and better movements. It will be hailed as the best game of all time imo and i will worship the publishers.

Woudn't we be using gauss weapons/star wars laser blasters?

And for the laser thing. Isn't it more for missles not planes? Since it's trying to get the thing to explode so it kills itself. Using it to kill planes would be harder. Well maybe not planes but tanks.

I can't remember the name of the game but it's coming out for ps3 and it has a small version of a planet. It takes like an hour to circumnavigate the equator in the fastest vehicle.

As for revolutionary concepts, one I'd like to knock outta developers' heads is their belief that in order to make a great game, they have to make it a graphic powerhouse. It's stupid, since I stopped caring about graphics ages ago, and in my opinion, the new POP looks much better than Crysis. You don't need bells and whistles, you need gameplay and story.
Well as the graphics get better the AI get better, and it gives way to better art.

God of War didn't have a cover system, so I assume you meant Gears of War. Killswitch was the "first" to do cover, GeOW just picked up on it. Now the first ever game to have "cover" - well, pretty much the first 3D FPS that involved you pressing the crouch button while behind something.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that a game has taken that "spontaneous cover" system concept, it's called "Fracture" - I like the way you implemented it better though.
