Fucking Reddit! I really hate that website; It's a 4chan for 12 year olds who have just discovered memes.

OT It's a shame it was blown out of proportion, I always enjoy a good shitstorm.
Shitstorms are so much fun

14 hours? I can barely stand playing a game for a couple of hours.

And really? We're still still giving Breivik this attention? He wins...

Most of the more sulphuric threads, right here on this very forum, originate in some half-overheard fifth party information, channelled through a source that is notoriously unreliable, if not deliberately deceptive.

Business as usual.

Playing 15 hours a day is kind of bad.

The best I ever did was 14.
But I knew it was a bad thing to do.

Jesus 14 hours? I think the last time I played that long was at the age of 13 when I rented the first Fullmetal Alchemist game from Blockbuster's for the weekend and then played for like 17 hours straight to finish it before Sunday.(it was Easter weekend so I was going to lose a whole day traveling to the big family dinner) I was actually physically ill by 5am Sunday morning. I did finish it before I had to return it though, so by god being up at 5am on Sunday with severe diarrhea and vomiting was worth it.

While I've never done that long of a stretch again, there's still nothing like getting up after a nice uninterrupted 4-6 hour session. Rare though they may be for me nowadays.

See, that's a reasonable statement. Gaming for 14 hours a day is crazy. Even when I have a free day and a new game just came out, I still only manage around 7, and that is very high. It's actually been about a week since I've gamed since I had a concussion, and the most I've played in a day is 12. That was once. Glad the mistranslation was caught. The last thing we need is to go after a man internet-style over something he never said.

So I take it that Reddit users are one step below 4chan users?

Reddit users are far below 4chan. 9gag is still at the bottom though.

Nice to have this clarified, it seemed a little strange, they'd have to be absolute idiots...strange but plausible.

mass-murdering berk

Im not sure if this came about as a misunderstanding of the Queens English, but you are a berk if you spill tea on the carpet, not if you mass murder people...it doesnt really convey the right tone.

On the other hand, nice work catching the mistranslation.
Actually, if you like up the original meaning of the word, it's absolutely perfect for this situation.

I have zero faith in the common man to understand such things as bias, objectivity and informed decision making. When we live in a world that has people reading news reports as if they are factual and then regurgitating them to their peers without so much as a second thought, I've little hope for our long term future.

When will people get it? Assume everything the government and media tell you is a lie - because it probably is. Outlets like the Escapist aren't here to provide accurate news. They're here to make money and the people running the show are just as fallible as any other. So long as they aren't outright caught lying often, they've little incentive to bother wondering just how accurate their "reports" are. News programs are also given a free pass, with most of us assuming they are actually there to provide news to the public. While that is one of their goals, their first and most important is to - you guessed it - make money. Money does wonders to integrity.

Bill Hicks described us as the puppet people, sardonically singing "Put it on our TV and it's true. Put it on our TV and it's true." I don't think he knew how accurate he was.

Well that's a relief. Unfortunately the shitstorm is well and truly underway at this point, and I'm sure people are far too into it to stop now. Cue people continuing to condemn the psychiatrist because "he should have known it'd be easily misunderstood", "there's no smoke without fire" or similar...

My norwegian is not that good, but our reporting of the trial has been pretty good. The reason why they brought up the game is to clearify the timeline before the attack, more specifically how much time he spent on his manifesto and planning of the attack. He said he spent a lot of time playing WoW, but claims himself he spent all the time writing the manifesto. It has never been implied that the game has had anything to do with the attack, although they tried it one time in the beginning to make it sound like it.

If anyone has any questions, maybe I can answer it! I've been following the live reporting pretty closely, an less risk of losing something in translation...
