The prosecution is not trying to prove that he committed the murders. (He's already admitted that!) They're trying to prove that he's insane.

Im not sure if this came about as a misunderstanding of the Queens English, but you are a berk if you spill tea on the carpet, not if you mass murder people...it doesnt really convey the right tone.

On the other hand, nice work catching the mistranslation.

Having played Planescape: Torment I can safely say I am an expert on these things, a berk is simply an idiot and it makes for nice alliteration when used with barmy.

Although he could also be Aussie, Kiwi or South African, as they have very similar speach to the UK!
