Basically, what have you done in a video game in the past that you would be ashamed to admit now? It could be a crushing defeat due to stupid error, or a huge misunderstanding on your part, or a particularly easy part you decided to cheat on (game guides or otherwise) because it was frustrating.

Mine was in Dragon Age: Origins:
I played the game for about thirty hours thinking that if one of your party member's HP reached 0, they were permanently dead. I was so pissed at the 'difficulty' of the game up until that point. I had no idea what 'Injury Kits' were for because of this.

Anyway, share some old gaming stories you'll never tell anyone about.

I finished MGS3 without realising that you could use the D-pad to walk silently. I kept trying to sneak up on enemies and failing miserably. The whole game was just me lurching from firefight to firefight, and that just tainted it for me. To this day I still can't enjoy it, which is a massive shame.

Well, in all honesty I say looking for a guide on GameFAQs to solve a battle or puzzle you've tried very extensive hours to do is legitimate. But using one straight off the bat for a game you just bought is, in my opinion, cheating, period. With that said I regret doing that exact tactic for solving Riven and Myst 3, Exile. Both of those games are good challenges for my age now, but my younger 10 year old self couldn't wait to solve the puzzles so now all of the solutions are now engraved into my head.

Me and my cousin (I think he was 12 at the time) played the rumble roses demo for three hours......... and had fun.

I played DOA's extreme 2 for 5 hours straight..... beat the game three times and gambled in $100,000 black jack for the last 3 hours..... and had fun.

I got into a love triangle, square, weird shape that is all about me? anyway in DA:O Lily thought I was cheating on her eith Morrigan(which I wasn't, because I had an relation ship with Morrigan ONLY.) and then Morrigan blames me of chreating on her with Zev....what the hell man? and you know what was the worst part. I HAD TO BREAK UP WITH ZEV. really gay moment in that game..... that was not fun.

I can't get through Gameboy Zelda games without looking up guides quite a lot.

Subversion of the OP. Playing Fire Emblem KNOWING everyone died permanently but not caring.
When I got to mission 21 and had only 6 characters, one of whom was a dancer and another a bard...I think THAT was when I admitted defeat.

I played Final fantasy X for about 10 hours without understanding and using the spheregrid. I came incredibly close to destroying that game I got so angry at the 'difficulty'. looking back, I can't beleive I didn't understand the spheregrid (Although I was only 10 and it was my first RPG)

I tend to plow trough some of the areas in Splinter Cell games and only after killing all the enemies there do I see how I could have been sneaking around them.

I got all 240 stars in Super Mario Galaxy, unlocked the Grand Finale Galaxy....and had to look at Gamefaqs to find out how to access it.

To beat the first Kotor I had to look online to find out that I need to put grenades in those things to complete that part of the game.

The first time I played WoW I didn't know that "the tram" existed. After getting a quest as a level 8 human in which I was suppose to get to Ironforge I search for a way to get past the mountains.
My solution was to swim from Westfall to Menethil harbour. This took about 4 hours and there was still some dangerous running to do before reaching Ironforge.

The game: Mass Effect.

Everyone hated the Mako in ME, right? Well, I hated it more than all of you. Every time the game forced me into it, I literally swore out loud, set my jaw and got to work. Common reaction, I'm sure.

But how many of you didn't realize it had a tank cannon?

During my first playthrough of Mass Effect, I had no idea the Mako had a tank cannon. I spent endless hours sniping enemies from afar with the machine gun, cursing the fact that an armored vehicle didn't have a big gun. All the Mako sections took me at least twice as long as all my friends because of this. It wasn't until my second playthrough that I realize the tank cannon was there, and that was only because my finger slipped from the trigger to the bumper. I nearly threw my controller at the wall.

All of my friends stare at me in shock and awe every time I tell them this story. They simply cannot fathom what patience it must have took to beat the game that way, especially when facing Armatures or Goliaths. Looking back on it, it's a great story to tell. But, at the time, it was a huge glaring flaw in an otherwise brilliant BioWare game.

It's usually stupid stuff like finding a crouch button after 20 hours of play which meant I could have played huge swathes of the game differently or not realising that there is an exit next to me after giving up and coming back to a game time and again. But that's sometimes down to bad level design...

To be honest that sounds like a fairly awesome epic journey to me. Mind you, I'm the kind of person who flies across China in a Cessna in Flight Simulator, so maybe my mind works differently to other people's
It would have been epic if the developers had put more effort into the scenery around those parts. It was all steep cliffs so I couldn't even see inland. At one point I did find this mysterious looking cottage but you couldn't really interact with anything about it. Probably part of some quest.

Haha :) yeah I had to ad a "Combat" to the "Flight Simulator" to not fall asleep in the planes.
