You may have noticed these new game cases, called the "Eco-Box." Some games using it are MW2 and Left 4 Dead 2, mostly on the Xbox 360, but Wii games are going to have them too, if they don't already. The cases are very recognizable with big holes in the back of the disc. The cases are lighter and flimsier then older cases. Also, they can break your disc. The center seems to put a lot of pressure on the disc. I have seen copies of MW2 with cracks that turned into chips that turned into chunks that broke away from the disc. This damage is in the center circle of the disc.

Has anyone had a problem with one of these cases breaking a disc? Two of my friends have a damaged MW2, and one has a cracking Orange Box disc. I leave my discs safely on top of my console.

Edit: Another one of my friends on Xbox Live said his copy of MW2 also has the cracks forming on the inner circle. He never plays the game, it just sits there. So I don't know how user could fuck something up that he's not using.

I have yet to see a case with a hole in the back?
and cases don't break games, clumsy/careless people do. They just blame the case because they are in denial over their clumsiness/carelessness

Recycling is Bullshit.

Fuck the planet, when I spend $60 on a piece of plastic I want that piece of plastic to last for the next hundred years.

I don't regularly snap my game cases in half, flimsy or not so I don't think it's a really big problem.

Personally I strongly prefer the eco-cases, I find it a lot easier to get disks into and out of them than I do to get disks into and out of normal cases. Hell, it's the normal cases that worry me sometimes, when they're too rigid and a disk gets stuck, I feel like I'm going to break it just trying to get it off the little center thing that holds it in place. Either way, I don't act like an idiot with my cases, I just stack them on a shelf, so I don't have to worry about them being too flimsy, it's not like someone's going to accidentially step on my shelf.

... take a deep breath. Let it out.

Now go get a disc carrier. I ahve one and all my games are in one, tiny place 3x6x4 inch box or so) and htey're all safe and sound.

Keep the box to hold the manual though.

The video is not helpful at all. It spends about 15 seconds actually outlining any problems with recycling (and the major complaint seems to be that it's expensive).
OT: I like the new cases. They seem easier to open for some reason. Also the game is easier to remove. Plus it uses less plastic, which means the energy saved could be used for something else.

The effect this case change has is minimal, so I don't really care too much about it.

But they do look quite ugly though, from an aesthetic point of view, I'd probably prefer to have the plain inside.

That video is part 1 of 3, I sort of expected that most people would be able to follow a simply "next" link at the end of the first 10 minutes.

The problem with Recycling, is that its a Placebo that costs us and the Government billions each year and requires more resources to adapt old material than it does to create new. The only thing that is resource effective is certain metals, some plastic.

IE: If they pay you money for Recycling it, it is probably cost and resource effective. If they are not willing to pay you for it, then its most likely a Placebo.

I have never been offered a $0.05 refund for turning in a DVD or a game case, so I am going to go on the wild assumption that its green piece Hippy bullshit feel good propaganda.

Links for the lazy and Search bar challenged.

I think its a good effort by the gaming community, and its not a big deal to boot. I haven't had a problem with this at all.

I haven't seen those, but seriously if you are blaming the cases for destroying your discs, you are doing something wrong.

Granted, people who don't take care of their software will have this happen. But my friend puts all his discs away. It's not like he's never put a disc away before. This is the only game case I've seen this happen with. Out of all the cases, designs, and center buttons of cases I have seen, this is the only case I have seen do this to a disc. Perhaps it's a small manufacturing error that makes the button larger then the center of the disc, so the pressure from the case on the disc makes cracks. I don't think pulling out/placing the disc in has much to do with. I think it's flaws in some of the cases, probably not all of them.

He can't be doing something wrong when all the game is doing is sitting in the case, then he opens it up and there's small cracks on the inside of the disc. I have these cases but don't use them, as I said, I leave them sit on my console.

I am only saying that I don't think the case is scratching the discs by itself, as that is not possible. There must be some kind of user action leading to this. And after all, these are your friend's discs, you cannot know how these discs have being treated. That is all I got to say about this.
