Gay porn: an audience for females too?

This is just something that I was thinking about last night. Is gay porn (or guy-on-guy porn) aimed at women as well as gay men, and if so, does it have much of a female audience? I know porn in general is primarily aimed at men, but when people say that, it seems like they're talking more about the fact that the majority of (mainstream) porn focuses on the sex appeal of the women. But gay porn does seem to be quite popular. Is it similar to how lesbian porn (or girl-on-girl porn) is primarily aimed at men? Do most women find Tom of Finland-style bodies and artwork attractive?

And please, for the love of God, don't derail this into another gender topic. I'm not generalizing, or at least trying to, at all here, since I was very careful to use words such as "primarily" and "most", and I'm just asking questions here because it's a topic that fascinates me and I'm willing to learn.

Seems fairly logical that there would be a female audience for that sort of thing.

Statistically, women are more aroused than men by mental imagery, hence all those erotic novels, but not everyone fits into statistics. So... yeah.

There's my two cents. Returning from whence I came...

I dont know as I dont think of things like this
but I do know that as a straight male lesbian porn kinda depresses me. I never got the appeal of lesbians as it just seems like the ultimate tease as they dont desire sex with men.
I also have a slight fear of lesbians...but I wont get into that.

I recently came into the somewhat surprising (although I'm not sure why) news that a lot of lesbians watch gay male porn. So I guess that's a female market right there, although whether anyone utilises this (or indeed how true it is) I don't know.

Publicly, all the girls I know have said that they find it incredibly unappealing, and so no. This may not be quite so true privately, but there you go.

Also, what Binny said, it seems logical that there would be a female audience for gay porn.

Damn.

Yeah, sure there's an audience for it. Just like there's an audience for females in lesbian porn, and straight porn, and just about every other kind of porn...

I wouldn't say it's aimed at women. Some women do watch it, but I don't think any mainstream porn studio is actively chasing the "women who watch gay porn" dollar. I'd say certain popular fantasies are rather explicitly for gay men, by gay men. I.e. "curious/open minded" straight guy, locker room scenes, public restrooms, etc.

There are pretty obvious differences in gay erotic material explicitly aimed at women (namely, yaoi) and mainstream gay porn.

Well, unless you actually meet a lesbian in real-life who you're attracted by, I don't see the problem. Lesbian porn exists just to get you off, so you shouldn't think about it too much and, besides, a lot of them aren't even lesbian at all. There's a concept in porn called "gay for pay"; men do it too.

And yeah, I probably don't want to open that can of worms concerning your fear of lesbians.

But the short answer is yes, to a certain degree. There's a concept at play called 'doubling' (I think) which says essentially that if one nude male is attractive, two will be doubly so.

The same concept applies to lesbian sex in porn aimed at men.
Yknow...thinking about it, yaoi and straight up porn are very different.

I have actually had a woman ask me to let her watch while I had gay sex, so I would assume so. Women actually get very little ads tossed the them targeting sex they are stuck in this vortex where they are the objects of sexual desire rather than the ones with it. It is however highly untrue many women watch porn.

I suppose it is just a habitual way of thinking that sex sells which is true but it has this kind of unspoken lie about how it works almost exclusively on men. It is honestly just kind of engrained in culture even many of the attractive male charters are there for men to view themselves as rather than for women to have a fantasy about where as many female charters are there for men to have a fantasy about rather than have a female relate to them. It is simply and old outdated tired way of thinking if you ask me, but due to the traditional way of thinking is unlikely to go away.

Yeah, I wish there was more female-friendly porn too. I've actually watched some myself whenever I get bored of mainstream porn. You really have to look to find the good stuff nowadays.

well webcomics...
I was thinking of licensed material on the shelf in the manga section that has to be approved.
On that note, theres a store at my mall, fye, that puts anime right next to porn at the back corner of the store. what the fuck people, make me look like a pervert.

I was going to mention yaoi, but that's geared toward a female audience. When I say "gay porn" I think of porn geared to gay guys.

Yes, I think it was kind of awkward for my partner who homosexual whereas I am bisexual. Of course it could be the fact I just take sex very casually and find gender rolls to be a worthless relic that time should have forgotten long ago.

There is an audience of both genders for any type of porn. Even the weird stuff... like really weird.

I wouldn't know if the opposite has the same appeal for women, but the large amount of yaoi on the net would suggest a yes.

Just spend a few minutes on DeviantART and you'll probably find you're answer.
