A functional game for one. We can then go into further detail about which developer other than Gearbox should be handling this game because quite honestly with Borderlands 3 on the way I know which of the two is going to get priority.

There was already a dedicated campaign to save Homeworld [savehomeworld.com]. Maybe they should have paid attention to that if they wanted to know what the people who are willing to put up $$ want.

Here's what you need to do for an HD remake:

1) Take the original games completely as they are.

2) Update polygons/graphics, and nothing else.

3) Profit.

If you're feeling adventurous, up the maximum unit caps for custom games or make much larger maps. Just don't fuck up a sure thing.
And yet somehow they will still screw it up.

As long as its the same game with improved textures, i'll be happy. DO NOT TOUCH THE GAME MECHANICS!

Mod supported same as the originals.

If both of these are there, i will throw money at them.

I may receive a warning for this, but I prefer if Homeworld remains a PC (counting mac and Linux) exclusive. No offense to consoles, but the design decisions tends to ruin several games I enjoy, and I don't see how the control would transfer to consoles.

Except it's not going to, Gearbox have well and truly proved that they can cock up games based on their own interests alone and that's without a console purposely ruining the games.

For 6 years they fucked over A:CM and SEGA and all for Borderlands and Borderlands 2, that's just Gearbox alone right there.

I can't see you getting a warning but let's keep this thread civil without it sparking a pointless Console vs PC thread based purely on personal interests.

For me it follows this rule with remakes except if possible add a lot of new optional content, not really new ships or missions but options to tweak the game somewhat, like have it play the way it was or have it more modernized, all that being up to the player to choose to make sure that both old and new players can be pleased.

I liked the Perfect Dark remake as it offered the same controls as the original or something closer to Call of Duty and Halo.

A remake is supposed to follow the original material as close as it can (otherwise its a reboot) but I do believe that having the option to also ease in new comers and implement new modern concepts is a great way to make what was a good game better by offering something for everyone. But if I had to choose having the remake follow the original or modernized without having the hability to have both available I would certainly choose to keep it like the original.

Tickle me wrong, but I thought Black Bird Interactive (aka some of the original Homeworld developers) were making a free-to-play game called Shipbreakers, but Gearbox offered them to make it a proper licenced Homeworld game, and no longer free-to-play. Are Gearbox also making this HD remake on the side?

I want to see better controls, a better dynamic difficulty system and prettier graphics... and pretty much nothing else.

Dear god please don't try to break it down to be a console release. The controls will not bloody work, and you'll have to destroy the game for PC to even try.

I said to myself before I even clicked on this section "Someone is going to bring up Colonial Marines" and I was right. People are never going to let that go are they?
I know right? Judging a company based on its previous products is so annoying.

Quite simple I want Relic to make them, I do not have any faith in Gearbox. Man I am so sad about Relic they made real quality work, with the exception of Space Marine.

I don't suppose I'm allowed to ask for a new game in the series with some good writers on board?
You are getting that. Remember Hardware: Shipbreakers? Same people, and now thanks to Gearbox, same universe. ;) (just not in space this time)

What do I want to see in a Homeworld HD remake?

Okay Gearbox, here are a few things:

1: You not being involved in any step of the process

2: The original art assets left relatively intact, with perhaps some touch-ups to the texture and particle effects, some decent (but not overbearing) shader effects, and some higher-poly models.

3: The original soundtrack and score untouched, unless you decide to hire Paul Ruskay to add newer tracks along with the older ones.

4: Expanded campaign that tells the tale from both sides of the conflict, but only if the original writers (or equivalent) do the primary scripting.

In the end though, I have little need nor want of your HD remake. I still have copies of the originals. And besides, Blackbird Interactive is already making the real contemporary Homeworld game I want to play.

Your wish has already been granted. [http://blackbirdinteractive.com/]

I've heard it may take place both planet-side and in space. But I could be wrong on that one, especially as the game's supposedly undergoing big changes.

No. In fact, it's being billed as a pseudo-sequel to the first Homeworld.

I've never played Homeworld, but if you were to ask me what I'd want out of an HD remake of anything my answer would be less HD and more remake.
You are asking gearbox to change game mechanics. Surely your intentionsis complete ruination and toxication of the homeworld title.
Beside, the game doesnt need a remake. It is perfectly playable as it is, runs on new systems without crashes (thought i heard cataclysm crash for some people, never crashed for me), mechanics arent really much "Better" in modern counterparts and its still very much balances with many different races.
"remaking" it is the worst gearbox can do.
