As for Borderlands, I was massively underwhelmed by it, while wanting it to be good.
You aren't allowed to say that here.
A 'No-Hating' policy it seems.
Ah! I never said hate. Just underwhelmed. But I'll say hate if it stirs shit around here.
I never said hate either...

...they got to me all the same.

Don't bother me none but this thread is mostly about GearBox's marketing strategy. Soooo....

I started out by saying how even if Gearbox did sell Belgium, cake, and a better game along with whatever game they want me to buy I wouldn't care for it due to their recent games. Then Monkeys got all hissy and now apparently I'm a hater. I need a hug.

I SAW IT ALL, MY FRIEND. And between you and me, Borderlands was a piece of underwhelming bullsh- uh, frog. Yes. Bullfrog.

If you don't mind a hug from someone who loves borderlands, I will :D

But sweet, I would love to check out the Duke.

Well gee, thanks guys. I feel better now.

I love the idea of Borderlands, but I think that it's just IoMTDS again (Idea of Morrowind-Type Design Syndrome) with a bit of ICBTHtMGCIS (It Can't Be That Hard to Mix Genres Can It? Syndrome). Ah well.

I thought Borderlands was a good idea that fell far from the mark of being a good game. I already have one quest-grind-fest to play (WoW) and Borderlands seems more a rinse-repeat of the questing I hate in WoW.
Duke looks ok, but after the years of hype and dismay and seeing "some" gameplay finally surface, I'm not very amazed at what I see. Just another mindless FPS boomstick GO.
Duke was cool when I was 16, but the appeal has lost luster and the gameplay doesn't look to be that interesting...
I think this is going to be Daikatana all over again except without Romero's fatface touting "best fps evar!"
And I wouldn't buy Borderlands to get a demo... thats insane.

Not interested in Duke Nukem, but it's cool that they would do that.

To the Alligator: Relax, one guy said you were being a hater.

I like Borderlands, but I'll be the first to admit it's a mediocre title overall. The loot whoring and gunplay with friends is something I have fun with regardless of that.

Also: I'm curious as to what you mean by IoMTDS. If it's contagious, I'm all for spreading it. Morrowind is the greatest game I've played.

I am relaxed - don't worry :)

IoMTDS is a syndrome I have in which I am compelled to buy every game that looks like Morrowind. It's got me to buy a lot of shitty games...

WTF!

I can't actually get to the code, but that's probably because I don't have Borderlands installed...

INSTALLING NOW!

Damn. I was hoping it was more along the lines of developers moving towards Bethesda's early design philosophies, even if they fail at it. Bethesda could use that sort of syndrome themselves... but now I'm going off-topic, so good day to you, sah.

Thats not really fair to 360 owners such as myself, I bought the game, accidentley broke it, and then bought it again. But just because I didn't buy it at the right time I don't get the demo while all the steam users do... sigh.

For a long time now, us PC guys rarely get any love like this... so while it does suck, its nice to be remembered by some developers every now and then.

Makes me wish I didn't buy Borderlands at retail when it came out.
Oh well. I guess I'll have to wait for the demo to come out some other way.

Slightly off topic, but I'm considering buying the GotY edition of Borderlands (retail). Ignoring Duke, is it worth the £15?

O Rely?

Yeah I figured out they were cool after I played Half-Life Opposing Forces...
Opposing Force was pretty cool. Although I want to never want to remember that other expansion pack from them ever again.

OT: I really think Gearbox is going out of their way to give gamers hope in Duke Nukem. I'm at least glad they're trying.

I just had to see what someone who's willing to dismiss Borderlands as "mind-bogglingly juvenile" considers to be mature entertainment.
It's not how juvenile it is, it's the repetitive gameplay, dull storyline, user interface issues, "billions of guns" all being the same, character customization miniscule for an RPG, enemies with insane amounts of health, necessity to grind to defeat even the lowest bosses... etc.

There were many issues with that game.
