This is the last time I will say this, video games and movies do not interact, because a video games length is typically 5 hours+ in a single player campaign, movies are 1 hor to 3 hours in length. Gamers will always be disapointed with movies made off their games because they change or take away from the story too much. For instance, a Mass Effect movie would be horrible. You would need like 10 movies to get the whole story out. As far as gears of war, probably too gory for your general movie goer.

Gears of War seems like the weirdest game to make into a movie. I wasn't especially impressed by the game (I've only played the first one) but I can understand why it was so popular and why people like it; it just doesn't seem like any of the likable things would really translate into a movie. I would guess that the reason that it's being made into a movie is that it sold millions and millions of copies and that makes it a really easy thing to get funding for.

The only way I can see it working is if you take the setting and make film in that setting but not directly connected to the stories of the games. It seems like the premise is just about strong enough to make a film, but none of the characters or the plots of the games come even close to being film-worthy.

I really hope they do good to the series. Despite the fact that GOW is one of the most macho-testosterone one-dimension and idiotic games ever created, you seriously have issues if you don't find it at least a little fun.

There's going to be a Gears of War movie?!? Geez, how the hell would they do that? I mean, we all know what it would basically amount to...

I know people will be like "lololol as if Gears of War has a story" but it's nice to see they're at least going for a good script. I mean, they're trying? (cough Doom)

and like Halo, they'd rather not make a movie at all instead of making one that's really crappy (low budget isn't always bad, since technically District 9 was somewhat low...ish)

anyyyway it seems like a joke that there'd be that one dolt who's thinking "uhh bwaaat no romance sub-plot shoe-horned in??" ...eh oh well. I mean, sure R rated movies might make less money because of its restrictions but seriously...this is Gears of War

Hold on, District Nine had a huge plot, and was a subliminal message about Apathid. Gears doesn't have that sort of story. They had a better idea going with 2012, which was just basicly explosions, and end of the world shit happening. Now that is Gears in a nutshell.

So like Disrict 9 they are going to put a whole bunch of time and resources into making a sure fire hit by exploiting an existing fan base (halo). Then suddenly realize the franchise does not have enough plot to make a decent movie and turning those resources over to some one else who makes a great movie based on their own ideas with no connection to the original franchise. I like this idea. Especially considering it involves lying to a creatively bankrupt studios to get them to inadvertently fund artistic brilliance.

While I am against this film and do not like Cliff...
A non R rated Gears movie with a love story would suck. The only love story in Gears ended badly, and its a fucking M rated game. An M rated game should be an R rated movie. You want a PG-13 movie? Then look at T rated games.

HA! I didn't even know they were making a movie about the game. This is going to funny. Trying to fit a love story in such a game is worth seeing, even if it is terrible.

Alright! Guess who's gonna b**** and moan about his wife! WHOO! Thank god they are gonna add that.
He didn't really "***** and moan" that much in the game. Whenever he did mention trying to find her, it's because that's a part of the plot. He loves his wife and wants to find her, and usually mentioned her when he was asking about her or making a decision that involved his search for her, which makes sense. Did you also think everyone in the game was whining too much about the Locust all the time, or did you just make this comment because Yahtzee said it, so it must be right?
Wait, so Yahtzee isn't always right? What? Since when?

It's a shame about the budget cut, because I think a big explosion budget and a competent director is all you need to turn the raw materials from the game into a watchable popcorn flick.

Anyone who tries to wedge a love story into GEARS OF FUCKING WAR should have a special level of Hell reserved for them, though.

EDIT: Dom's wife doesn't count, by the way.
