This is pretty much why I hate Kinect and Move, now we have at least 2 years of horrible games while Microsoft and Sony try to make the "hard core" market interested in their annoying casual product. Why? Because even though Kinect isn't "for" us, they sunk so much goddamn money into it they'll be damned if they don't force the "hard core" audience to accept it.

I do understand and am interested in the technological possibilities of Motion Control, I just don't see how what always ends up being the Random Flailing(tm)control method will help the games I enjoy. The only games I liked in more than a silly mini-game 5 second glee way on the Wii were games that scaled BACK the motion control like No More Heroes or Super Paper Mario. Basically unless they come up with something TRULY amazing, which I doubt, we're looking a $200 Add On that doesn't really enhance a game what would have been fine without it.

I wonder how you would take cover with Kinect... Needless to say the results would just be fucking hilarious.
Everytime you wanted to take cover you'd have to jump behind your couch and ram your back against it! It's the only sensible solution :3

Yeah it's gonna have to support the controller along with the kinect. The kinect lacks a pointing device of any kind, so you're not really gonna get that metroid prime experience.
You could hold out your arm like Samus's arm cannon. Or maybe use a finger pistol.
Without a discrete button to at least act as fire you're going to have trouble. Geturing chain swords and grenade tosses is the kinda stuff I'd like to see. Headtracking would be great. I have a kinect setup and playing dance central is alot of fun, but a shooter would likely involve that arm being held in that position alot. Not gonna be good for you're joints. Further the kinect doesn't by default have a pointing function. For instance you don't select menu items by pointing at them. You select them by imagining that there is a proxy piece of glass in front of you representing the onscreen menus. You move your hand over the selection. I've started to get used to it but it is still not the point, that a wii-mote offers you.

Make no mistake I think developers like epic have the skill to bring some enrichment to the traditional shooter with kinect, but I think it's inadvisable to drop the controller entirely. Hybrid games are where the Core market can really get some enjoyment out of the kinect.

Remember the kinect does not track you're fingers or wrist. Though a creative dev might be able to circumvent some of that using the captured silhouette.

It'll have to be a rail shooter, nothing else is physically possible.
Unless it's a hybrid game, or the developers have put more thought into it than you.
How can you make an FPS on kinect? I think it would be really hard to be able to make on that wasn't clunky and unintuitive.

Well, seeing as how Gears 3 shall be untouched by this *phew* I'm okay with it. I could also see this working somehow...hate to use this phrase, but you guys really need to "think outside the box". I'm now going to wash away the stench of having just used that phrase. Forgive me.

^This^

You can't walk forward with Kinect so that would have to do it. That or a game mode that is Kinect only.

God, I can think of so little actions that won't end in comedic outbursts.

I typically hate mic speakers, but for some reason I find myself wanting to hear the first thoughts when/if this game goes public.

Some of you didn't even read the article before commenting about Cliffy B's twitter post. It says right there in the article that Cliffy said there wouldn't be Kinect for Gears 3. This would be something different. My guess is a branch-off from the series. At least learn to read the whole article before trying to be the first one to say "boo kinect i haet u".

That said, I actually look forward to see what can be done with this.

If that happened with Gears I would freak the fuck out. Do NOT fucking do that. EVER.

That was yesterday. Today we're hipsters or salesmen.
You sure, I thought we were rockers or mods?

I was wondering what Cliffy B was on about on Twitter last night, that popped up in my feed and I was just puzzled at the thought that anyone would suspect Kinect support for Gears 3. Not that it wouldn't be a good thing, I've always held to the belief that Kinect controls (alongside traditional ones) for 'hardcore' games like FPSs and RTSs and whatnot could work really well, provided they were done correctly. And the whole 'Minority Report style' mod recently just goes to show the technology does have the capability of doing stuff like that well too. It's just a matter of time.

Until then, I guess, Haters Gonna Hate...

So are we going to be playing basketball against the Locust, or are we going to have a "dance" off complete with shitty Lady Gaga music?

..As much as I appreciate the idea in the concept of motion control, no. DO NOT.

I like my handheld controller where it is right now, for now, thank you.

Edit: As I do not care for twitter, I did not see that until now. Good.

Epic BETTER not screw around with my precious Gears of War series!

If you make crap motion controls for Gears I will stick the Kinect up your bums!
