Geeky stuff you hate

Yeah, can't stand tabletop roleplaying games. Most discussions of "Games are art" I find very obnoxious too (usually in their delivery).

Is cosplaying part of the nerd spectrum or does that descend one more circle into Dante's stereotype inferno?

I can't stand people who spend every waking hour playing PC games or on forums, find things like RAM exciting, talk about computers nonstop, and yet still refuse to admit that they are geeks. It's nothing to be ashamed of, just say it!

Another thing that annoys the hell out of me is people correcting my gramma and spelling on forums. Im dislexic and often have to edit my post 3 or 4 times before they make them perfect so its pritty embarrasing when someone calls you out on it.

While I merit your efforts in self-moderation if you really do find it that much of a pain in the arse, use the spellcheck in MS Word, or Open Office, or whatever you have available (some browsers have spellchecks built in). I do and it works wonders, even if my grammar is wrong.

OK geek thing I hate, kids thinking they are cool by swapping letters for numbers. Jesus christ, its an insult to nerd culture.

I'm going to extend "warcraft escapades" to "nerd escapades in general." Nobody wants to hear about anything "cool" that you did in any video game, RPG, strategy game, or whatever. Arguments over "canon" are also incredibly painful.

Oddly enough, I feel the same way about conversations about sports and do my best to remove myself from such conversations as quick as possible. After all -no-one- wants to hear about anything "cool" that you did in any sporting activity /sarcasm.

I know you were being sarcastic, but I actually agree. I couldn't care less when people talk about some sports game/event or how they 'hit that home run' or whatever. I don't care, shut up.

I do agree that certain game stories are painful (Usually focused around World of Warcraft and JRPGs in general), but I don't mind if people are talking about games. It's a hobby of mine, I enjoy talking about them, so let's swap headshot stories. That being said, I'm not so geeky that I bring these stories up to non-gamers. You gotta have some social tact, fellow gamers.

It's not really a geeky thing, but theres a massive geek in my year and he just stalks me. He followed me around when I was going to the shop once, and he just stares at me in school whenever he see's me.

I think it's because he's friends with one of my friends, so that must give him a reason to freak me out.
My boyfriends mate does it too. He saw me a few days ago, stared at me for a bit, then blew his nose really loudly XD
So, I hate geeky stalking habits. Maybe I have a nerd-dar?

Yeah I feel your pain man. When I was younger I was the 'cool' nerd with half normal-people friends and half social rejects, and I would get very upset when the two mixed. Like when I would be hanging out with a lovely lady or two and one of my nerd friends would show up and start asking me about character concepts for my next D&D campaign.

Nowadays though none of that stuff matters anymore. Sure there will still be people who will weird you out with their, uh, weirdness but most of the superficial bullshit disappears when you get older. Don't act like it's a big deal and no one will make it one.

Although when I think about it, I do tend to divert my gaze from some of the common douchebaggery that insecure nerds will pull out of no where.

Actually I just hate Warhammer, well, I specifically hate their extortion pricing, and self reinforcing stupid rules that revolve around spending money. I don't think the players have no lives, hell, my little brother plays warhammer and I know he has a life, why should other Warhammer players be any different?

Basically, I hate the game, not the players, well, not all the players, I hate some players, but then again, I hate certain people in every hobby.

If I understand correctly, you're saying that because they are so very geeky it gives their fellow geeks a bad reputation. I can't say the same, because I don't care if they give me a bad reputation. I'm a geek. There's not much geeks can to do about it, and there's even less we can do to convince other people that you aren't just like the stereotypes.

The worst thing about nerds/geeks (regardless of whether they're gamers, roleplayers, tabletoppers, cardswappers, socceridiots etc. etc.) is the minority "hardcore" segment who simply takes themselves too seriously and believe that they have the answer to every single question that might possibly come up in their field.

Like when I play Warhammer 40k tabletop and air an new army concept I've been thinking about and this one guy goes: "Nooo, that won't work - wraithguards are simply to costly and with only toughness 6 they're... blablabla... you'll loose every single game."
Or I try out a build for my warlock in WoW and this guild-person goes: "Nooo are you insane! that won't give you the sheer dps needed for taking down , and doesn't even do good in Arene, what do you think you're doing?".

Well... to that question, only one answer: "I'm trying to have a bit of fun... (idiot)."

the prices just kept on rising and rising so i choose to quit.
Now i just feel like a recovering addict whenever i go past a GW store.

but yeh I hate the numbers instead of words and talking in abreviations in real life.
I dont understand how people get excited about RAM etc.
The only thing I want to know is; will it play my games?

Yeah have to agree that getting corrected in general is annoying. Do people really believe that by nit picking some one's statements that person will instantly recognize them as the superior individual? It either has to be that or there is some jerk contest I am not aware of.
