I like to think everyone on the internet is a cute little female that I must liberate from evil with my 'rod of great justice'

People always assume I'm a guy. Even those gender tests I took online think I'm a dude. Shit, I got the 3ed highest score on Spark.com's Bastard Test. It doesn't bother me anymore & I don't feel a need to correct them.
It's the chibi Gambit.
I'm pretty sure that cute chibis & hot Cajuns fall into girly teritory.
Yeah, but it's countered by the fact that he's Gambit. If it was Ray from the Priness and the Frog you'd be fine, but you chose Gambit.
Well the rule of thumb on Comic Vine is that girls will defend Gambit & for some reason guys seem to hate him.

...This is exactly why I'm confused for a girl online!!!

I don't know many girl comic-lovers in real life (though in hindsight I should have asked her out), but almost everyone I do know, guys included (making it more than that one girl), they all seem to love Gambit. Except in the movie.

I don't really think that it's normal for a guy to have a picture of a girl as a face.
It kinda goes against the point for me.
To me the point of an Avatar is to reflect an interest or something close to you. Music is close to me so I chose one of my favourite artists.
Lady GaGa?

Who was it?
It was VaudevillianVeteran, before I knew her well.
And it was due to a thread in Forum Games where everyone just kept referring to her as a guy so I went along with it.

I have the same problem. A lot of people assume and refer to me as a male, but profile clearly states name and genger.

XD-I guess I come off a little butch. I don't really care though.

That's why I never refer to anyone by gender. Since I usually only stick my nose into the gaming topics, the situation rarely comes up.
As for myself, it's never been questioned. At least not that I can remember.
Don't know if my username has anything to do with it, but I'm guessing my avatar makes it pretty clear.
Assuming people make a first guess on avatars. As I do. But now I'm just repeating what everyone else has already said. So I'll stop now.

...in forums.

In some of my threads or in other threads I've contributed to I've noticed something weird. Some people to automatically refer to me as female. I know this has probably happened to a lot of people now and again, maybe, but it seems to be happening to me a lot lately. I'm a little confused as I've never made out to be female, hell my profile states my gender and name as male and Adam. I'm not especially feminine in how I say things so this is pretty weird for me. I think its possibly because of my avatar or because some of the threads or posts I make aren't stereotypically male. I guess.

Anyway, I was just wondering how many of you have been mistaken for a different gender and how weird it got, and how you felt about it.
Yeah... I'm gonna go with:

You have a female avatar, so people naturally assume you're female. Most people responding to a post aren't checking your profile, so all they really have to go on is your avatar.

I deliberately play a game of gender ambiguity on forums, largely because of past experiences where I have recieved "interesting" private messages during the days when I was a bit more specific. I'd rather not dig into that anymore than that, but it should probably be obvious what sorts of things I am talking about. In any case, most people tend to assume that I am female because of how I type and because of my consistent use of female avatars. I honestly do not care what people see me as, because that is not important to me.

I do this because I want people not to focus on gender when they see my posts or messages, but instead to focus upon what I am actually saying. I prefer when people stay interested in my crazy personality than on thoughts of real world possibilities, you know? :)
I couldn't agree more, I tended to be the same a few years ago, though I do believe I stopped caring what people thought. =3

About 5 years ago, I used to hang around the RP/Troll subculture on Battle.net US-West when I wasn't gaming.
You would not believe half the whispers I got because of the way I worded things and acted towards others. >.<!

Sigh.

REPRESENTATION OF ONE'S SELF.
Try to at least match the gender if you want to be appropriately represented.

People don't really 'talk' like genders, so it can be very difficult to tell.
People have assumed that I'm a girl before, not sure why though, and I know that the way my girlfriend talks on forums sometimes gets her patched as a rather eccentric male. Particuarly when she starts making sexist references to the kitchen...
