They just need to dump the project right now and get working on something actually fresh and original (like, I dunno, an actual sequel to Marathon). The smoking ruins of Concord are at the end of this road, but Bungie is too blind to see them.
Creative assembly, maker of total war game, spend a massive amount of budget (apparently the highest budget ever for a game by sega, which own CA) trying to make a destiny clone. After awhile, they realized it was a very stupid plan and canned the project, better late than never I guess.

It would be nuts if Budgie, after a game that was like 95% identical to what they're making now became the most spectacular bomb in recent video game history (or ever) couldn't do the same.

At this point, either recycle it into something else, release it without much promise just to maybe squeeze a bit of cash, or move on.

They are still not finished and the game has raised $800 million dollars. I feel somewhat bad for the gamers who invested so much money in this, but if they've been following this game since day one, then they should stopped with cost sunk fallacy a long time ago. The game is still in Alpha, despite the $800 million raised. This game has been in development for over a decade now, and no actual end in sight.

The game can’t release because it’s in developmental perpetuity.

Like I've been saying for years: The design document is an ever-expanding list of "wouldn't it be cool if". How many contributors wanted their money to be spent on "realistic bedsheet physics"?

Oh don't worry, all the shills will keep defending and supporting this game for their love of it... or because they are butthurt about the amount of money they contributed and feel they deserve SOMETHING. Especially those who pledged anything more than $60.

It's time to let it go, people; Treat this as a unfortunate loss, and never back a game project that has anything to do with MMO.

In other news, Witcher 3 is turning 10! And unlike Star Citizen, people are actually celebrating its anniversary and is beloved by many.

Despite the basic combat system and mundane open-world design, I'd argue it's still better than anything Ubisoft has put out over the recent years. Still has one of the best written story and characters I've ever seen. While I can't get the game to work any more due to mod conflicts post next-gen patch, this game will always have a special place in my heart.

I had to deal with the shill on the SB forums. The fucker wanted me to explain what was wrong with the game, even though I already explained it three different times. Before he even asked. I set his dumb ass on ignore.

Witcher 3 still sits in my top 5 games of all time.

Im just reading up on all of the Marathon controversies, and I have to ask, has there been a game in recent memory that has had negative pre-release sentiment, and actually succeeded?

Deserved or not, but Marathon is seemingly the next target, and I just don't see this working out well for Bungie.

Do you mean in terms of financial success or public reception?

If financial success, then COD series (for whatever reason) is near-guranteed success with every release.

If by public reception, Hogwarts Leagcy pre-release had some major controversies regarding sexual-identification and J.K. Rolling nonsense. Also generated some flame war at launch too. But eventually everyone saw it as a great game set in HP universe.

Another example I believe would be AC Origins. IIRC, due to major changes in gameplay combat, it divided AC fanbase quite a bit. But it was actually received pretty well by the plyaerbase after the release, and to my knowledge, it's the most liked game out of Origin, Odyssey, and Valhalla.

A leading industry data firm has reduced its 2025 sales estimates for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X by 700,000 units following the delay to Grand Theft Auto 6.

Ampere Analysis has also lowered its forecast for PlayStation and Xbox game sales, down by 21 million units. Overall, Ampere believes the console market will miss out on $2.7 billion in revenue this year due to the GTA 6 delay. Of course, much of this will simply move to 2026, as the game is now scheduled to launch on May 26 next year.
IMO, People already don't really wanna get consoles. And I doubt the launch of GTA 6 is gonna fix that, save for the idiot shills who will break big bucks

Oh fuck, could this be the end of Bungie? Tune in next time!

I dunno what Bungie situation is at this point, they've been bought and sold so many time. But if they're still independent, I don't think they could easily survive the game being a massive flop.

The thing is that if their metrics fall below a certain level, Sony gains complete control over the company. Bungie's executives are desperately trying to keep things afloat until their stock options mature so that they can bail with golden parachutes.

We are 5 years into this console generation. I dont think people have been holding out on buy these systems for gta6 and the delay doesn't mean much. The same batch of holiday consoles will be bought for a new wave of kids, though with xbox increasing their price if Sony holds the they outsell xbox by a huge margin again.

The Switch 2 will sell like gangbusters the way it always does and people will be happy with it. As the new kid on the block it will probably outside Sony and MS combined. But again the generation is 5 year on now so the desire for consoles is naturally thinning.
