Everyone's favourite ex-Military Police giga-chad returns for more outrageous ass kicking adventures on December 15th
I see Serinda Swan's in this. I wonder if a fellow Smallville alumnus going to show up every season.

Holy shit, do my eyes deceive me? AN ACTUAL EFFORT to respect the source material? Casting look a near-perfect match to the cartoon characters?
It does actually look pretty good. I'm not 100% sold on the casting yet (Aang looks uncomfortably younger than Katara), but the effects so far are already better than the movie. Not that that was high bar.

Yeah, maybe it's because of the Shamalan movie this one looks so good. No seven earthbenders needed to move a rock! That's a start for sure

It is really uncanny to see Cavill's Geralt in animated form.

Anyway, as good as this looks, I'm really just not interested in Netflix's Witcher universe anymore. It's not even a question of contradicting the books or the games or whatever, they just feel so generically fantasy. Especially in animated form, it lacks the dirt and grime that I associate with the universe.

Yeah, I agree! The silver lining is that apparently, Lauren won't be the executive producer, while others will take over the writing.

They did show Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama. I don't know what your gf was looking at. As for Yusuke being "more serious", that is nothing new. The guy can snark, but he is not afraid to get serious during a serious moment. Also, that the English dub anime talking that added a few more lines of wit or snark.

I've long accepted that there will always be change or compromise when making a live-action adaption of anime. So long as the spirit is the same, then I see nothing wrong with it. Looks better than what live-action Bebop became. I have no interests in live-action One Piece, and that's doing great on all sides, so the same can be done with Yu Yu Hakusho. I am going to give it a chance.

Okay, I am not a fan of Zack Synder's work on the DC movies and the weird fanbase that sprung up around them.

But this shit right here? This is my fucking BREAD AND JAM. I don't wanna watch this on Netflix, I want a big fuckin' screen and sound that makes my teeth rattle. I want this shit hooked up to my veins.

NCIS heads Down Under.

In a move not all influenced by the recent actors and writers strikes, CBS have launched (first ep available Nov 10) a spin off set in Sydney. That clearly is a decision rooted half in marketability as Sydney is probably the best known city worldwide (with Melbourne likely second) due to iconography like the harbour bridge and opera house, and half in practicality since Sydney has the filming facilities and labour. I say this because the US NCIS actually does have an office in Australia - it’s in Perth - and the largest concentration we get of US sailors and marines is in Darwin.

The show is probably gonna be cringeworthy as fuck but I might give it a blast just to see how over the top our local talent do their accents and slang.

Okay, so, I managed to get some time to watch the episode of NCIS Sydney that's out.

Gone Fission. Fuck me we're in for a WILD ride.

The intro gives us the classic scene setters of Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. The cold open is the worst kind of wrong footing because it shoots some trendy young anarchist - they show they 'A' on his neck and everything - in such a way that it looks like he's assembling a rifle to knock off Australia's foreign minister who is giving a speech at an AUKUS even with the USN and RAN in Sydney Harbour.

Turns out he's just unfurling a protest flag because the USN Submarine is a nuclear one - the plot says the first nuclear USN vessel in 40 years - to dock in Sydney. Then suddenly a US sailor starts bleeding and just falls off the submarine, they were I think manning the rails for the ceremony

Snap cut and we're introduced to two-thirds of the ongoing cast. Det. Sgt. Jim Dempsey, Constable Evie Cooper of the Australian Federal Police, and Roy Penrose and Bluebird Gleeson, AFP Forensic Pathologist and Scientist respectively. Poor Roy only gets a few sentences into his Ducky routine (RIP David McCallum) before the rest of our principle cast arrive. Special Agent in Charge Michelle Mackey and Special Agent DeShawn Jackson. Mackey (a former Marine Corps chopper pilot) immediately starts swinging her dick around in a way I have a feeling her real life counterparts wouldn't. Also they have no escorts and are just waltzing into an AFP building, the hell?

There's a discussion about jurisdiction that may be more complicated than I assume since as a dead US sailor the NCIS will have some authority but at the same time he technically carked it in Sydney Harbour so the AFP should be involved. Either way its two people being shitheads for no reason. After the AFP get told NCIS are going to get to run things - yeah, okay sure - there's the usual bits of crime solving, blatently illegal hacking bullshit like Bluebird (somehow?) hacking into either the Australian or American DoD to get their totally bitching facial recognition system and then hooking it into the Service NSW (kind of like the DMV) and running over their licence database.

We're 20 minutes in and somehow this shit is going to get more ridiculous.

Basically the story is our sailor died of radiation poisoning - again the US DoD seems to just do shit it can't do by spriting the body out of the AFP morgue - so at first its like a coverup of a faulty Nuclear Submarine reactor which is dumb and heavy handed but then oh shit it turns out he was killed with Polonium 10, that isotope Russia likes to put in umbrellas. Also his friend went missing, who was an engineer on the sub. So our intrepid team of idiots deduce something is fishy on the submarine and try to get their man and the truth. And wouldn't you know it, they've stumbled upon some deep cover conspiracy to steal details about nuclear propulsion - described by Mackey as one of the best kept secrets in the US Navy - which is followed up by a shoot out on a Sydney dock (Wat?) and then, I fucking shit you not, as the terrorists are escaping on a fast boat in Sydney Harbour, to fucking where I have no clue, Mackey and JD steal a fucking Pave Low (I think) off the flight deck of HMAS Canberra to chase it down, to which the Captain can only go "Hey?" from the bridge. I fucking hope they payed the RAN a lot of money for this bullshit. And at no point does JD deign to alert the NSW Water Police, the Royal Australian Navy or the Australian Border Force since these clowns are heading for international waters. Then the fast boat explodes, the least credible cover story is concocted and someone decides that NCIS will be setting up shop in Sydney to try and figure out what the fuck is going on.

Look I'll be the first to admit NCIS as a whole is not exactly a show for credulous people - lest we forget the very first episode had Tony and Gibbs basically stealing Air Force One. But fuck me swinging, even the parts that are plausible in this are handled in the most cack-handed and stupid ways. Like no one comes out of this looking good.

I do not recommend. I do hope to see it on Legal Eagle's channel one day with a guest appearance by an Australian lawyer so they can take turns eviscerating it with the team.
