If you look on either side of this website, you'll likely see an ad for the game Vindictus. So, have you played it yet? Any feelings on the game yet? I think that for a free to play MMO it has some very, very nice graphics and game play. And Jiggle Physics. Did I mention it has Jiggle Physics for the female characters?

Well an actual link would be nice, counter to telling me on the side of the website. cause I could be very literal and look at the side of my screen(which I did).

Also the little joke you tried pulling off at the end works best if you put the "joke" throughout the post rather than right before it, because then you look like you actually can't remember and have a problem.

Just saying.

EDIT:Unless that was your intent o_O

I got into Vindictus ( vindictus.nexon.net for those of you who don't want to "look to the sides")a little over a month ago, back when it was just Lann and Fiona as the available character types. I have to say, without a single hint of irony, that it is a wonderful game. The game is pretty, the controls are tight and you can practically feel your character smash your enemies to pulp. Each character type feels different, and can be customized to a gratifying degree. The weapon and armor designs are excellent, and the physics engine (thank you, Source!) is used solidly. I like the use of the mission setup (to be honest, I might have liked the game LESS if they'd gone for pure open world), the enemies are intelligent enough (or outright HUGE enough, in the case of some bosses) to make you actually think about what you're doing instead of just mashing attack. I like that they used combo attacks, as well as the upgradeable skill system, and can't wait to see what the other character types they have yet to release will be like.

EDIT: Thank the gods that this wasn't a console game!

I want to damn someone to hell! I downloaded the game, and now I think im starting to get addicted to it!

Okay, maybe that a bit dramatic, but my God, this is actually a pretty decent game. The combat is amazing. Its a bet different from what im use to, but I see this as a path more developers should take for making MMOs. BTW, it is considered an MMO, right?

My brother is downloading it right now. I'm gonna see if it works on the computer first before I even start to get excited, because I don't think the CPU hits the requirements.

I've been with Nexon for a while though. I got into MapleStory on and off for like 3 years starting 5 years ago, and I tried Combat Arms, Mabinogi, DFO, and even KartRider. Hopefully this game isn't total grindage like MapleStory though...

I tried it when it was during closed beta, no idea what its at now. I remember it being quite fun, but I ended up soloing most of my time playing there because Nexon didn't let anyone under 18 join a random party...

My friend is trying to get me to join. The game looks like the right step for MMOs to take (more action, less grind), but I'm unsure if I'd ever commit to it while I'm in college.

It would work, though, if you think about it. they'd have to make a few tweaks to the UI, but it could be done.
Of course it could work; that's not the point. The point is that this is the first game (in recent memory) for the PC that provides this sort of experience to the player. It wouldn't take much to make it into a console, but I'm glad they didn't because we PC gamers need a game like this to be all of our own.

I haven't played the game, but I'd like to know what the combat and controls are like.

I usually don't like MMOs, because the combat feels very unsatisfying to me. I like action games, and MMORPG combat usually revolves around click on this monster until it dies while hitting a couple of magic hotkeys just for good measure.

Is this game actiony enough for me to be able to get into it?
The combat and controls are far different from other MMOs. It plays like a hack n'slash game(like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, God Of War, etc) so the combat is filled with action. I'm sure you'd be able to get into it. I never really cared for MMOs, and I got into this game pretty easily.

What exactly do you pay for in this game?

Is it areas like LotRO, or what? Could I happily play this without spending money and not being at a disadvantage at all?

Can't find out for myself until it's in Europe.

You could play this without spending a dime and still enjoy it. Most of the stuff you can spend real money on is useless avatar stuff like hairstyles, tatoos, etc. There are some useful things you can buy with real money, like potions(which you can buy with in game currency anyway) and an item that lets you revive yourself if you die, but it isn't neccesary as party members can revive you(mages have a skill that can revive people, and other classes need to use an item to revive comrades but the item is fairly common and cheap). You won't be at a disadvantage if you never spend any money on the game.

I must say, I'm very surprised at how good this game is. Actually, I'm surprised in general at how good some of these free games compare to mainstream market games that are $60 bucks. Such as, I've been play a lot of League of Legends and Vindictus oppose to Fallout: New Vegas or Black Ops.

I did appreciate the combat physics and agree.. its time for MMOs to step up to the 2005 console RPG standard of combat.

However, I am NOT a fan of its presentation.

Little things about it Irk the ever loving hell out of me.

Such as... there is only 1 head, period. Seriously. And because there is only one head... it has to look very gender neutral. Also there is only one gender.. female. Granted you get to choose between Giggle physics and carpenters dream, but still, No male option?

Unless I missed it, theres also no option for facial hair.

I grant that the combat physics is a step in the right direction, the underlying RPG to it is a bland mesh of Fiesta, WoW, and DDO from what I can tell. Also the story line seems to be rather JRPGish, which what can you expect from something from Asia?

Another thing that irks the ever loving chit out of me is how....... happy everything is. For example when you are starting an instanced mission, you get a little scene where your toon is smiling and waving at you? Seriously? What the holy hell is this?

Also, I dont get the emphasis on posing.

All in all its entirely too happy/domoish to me and that is what ruined it for me.

However It did impress me with a couple things. Giggle physics, (yes THOSE are the physics the banner ad keeps talking about, not the combat system) The cut scene engine was surprisingly good as well. Though it is a little dissapointing when you realize that cut scenes are limited and the largest bulk of your dialogue is going to be in fire emblem esque talking head pictures. Which that might not be a bad thing as it can allow for an easier way of showing facial emotion.

Also a feature that I adore is the auto screenshot deal. Seriously I dont know why I havent seen this sooner. Part of the problem of taking good screenshots is having to worry about getting a good pic while fending off the baddie thats trying to gnaw your ass to a pulp. This makes so much sense, it seems like a no brainer.

Again, the combat system is a revelation that has needed to be worked into MMOs since 05 and its very dissapointing that it took basically 10 years for someone to figure out that rolling numbers on a screen are less than enjoyable.

All in all I think its a surprisingly solid MMO effort. I wish it the best and hope it does well enough to stay afloat.

I love the game, really good and fun for a free MMO, without all of the "Well you can play this one area, but if you want to play the actual game pay us $1,000 a year and we'll even throw in armor that doesn't suck and the ability to chat!"
Yeah, that's meant to be satyric, but not much.

I'm trying Vindictus out with that contest the Escapist is having, and I have to say, I'm loving it. I may only be Lv. 11 at this point (RioMagnus for people who have talked to me (yes, I know I suck)), but I'm finding this a bit better than most games I've played. Maybe it's the charm from smashing a gnoll's face in with a wooden pallet. I'm not really sure.
