I did appreciate the combat physics and agree.. its time for MMOs to step up to the 2005 console RPG standard of combat.
However, I am NOT a fan of its presentation.
Little things about it Irk the ever loving hell out of me.
Such as... there is only 1 head, period. Seriously. And because there is only one head... it has to look very gender neutral. Also there is only one gender.. female. Granted you get to choose between Giggle physics and carpenters dream, but still, No male option?
Unless I missed it, theres also no option for facial hair.
I grant that the combat physics is a step in the right direction, the underlying RPG to it is a bland mesh of Fiesta, WoW, and DDO from what I can tell. Also the story line seems to be rather JRPGish, which what can you expect from something from Asia?
Another thing that irks the ever loving chit out of me is how....... happy everything is. For example when you are starting an instanced mission, you get a little scene where your toon is smiling and waving at you? Seriously? What the holy hell is this?
Also, I dont get the emphasis on posing.
All in all its entirely too happy/domoish to me and that is what ruined it for me.
However It did impress me with a couple things. Giggle physics, (yes THOSE are the physics the banner ad keeps talking about, not the combat system) The cut scene engine was surprisingly good as well. Though it is a little dissapointing when you realize that cut scenes are limited and the largest bulk of your dialogue is going to be in fire emblem esque talking head pictures. Which that might not be a bad thing as it can allow for an easier way of showing facial emotion.
Also a feature that I adore is the auto screenshot deal. Seriously I dont know why I havent seen this sooner. Part of the problem of taking good screenshots is having to worry about getting a good pic while fending off the baddie thats trying to gnaw your ass to a pulp. This makes so much sense, it seems like a no brainer.
Again, the combat system is a revelation that has needed to be worked into MMOs since 05 and its very dissapointing that it took basically 10 years for someone to figure out that rolling numbers on a screen are less than enjoyable.
All in all I think its a surprisingly solid MMO effort. I wish it the best and hope it does well enough to stay afloat.
