Whoa, I certainly hope this doesn't take effect.

What a massive step backwards for a Western country. I hate the "drugs & child pornography" comparison. I mean, really? Really!?!

Well, lets hope sanity prevails before they start burning books games.
It's a good comparison imo. Both are instances where something which causes no harm to another person is made illegal. (Obviously I'm referring to virtual child porn here, not actually harming children). There should be no law which restricts peoples freedom to engage in activities that cause no harm to other people.

Btw, is there a name for this sort of political opinion? I would like to get in touch with other people who feel the same way.
Liberalism is too general, is there something more specific?

Btw, german gamers already started doing something about this nonsense.

(this event was about an electronic sports league tournament suddenly being cancelled because of such brutal games like 'counter strike' and 'warcraft 3')

if this ban does go into effect, then I am curious to see what they will do when another shooting occurs, and video games can't be blamed.

Plus, there will be major backlash and a major loss in revenue.
And people will still be able to get the games. Banning them won't stop it.

I wonder if the German officials remember when the U.S. banned alchohol in the 20's.
It didn't work, and neither will this ban if it is passed.

Maybe they will fall back on the european's go-to race whenever there is a plague/violence/economic hardship and blame the jews.

This scenario is annoying. Globally, it seems every step we take forward as a community and a medium, someone else who doesn't play games or doesn't understand them tries to push us back.

That's why I dedicate my efforts to advocating games as a medium of cultural and artistic expression. Eventually we'll win this tug-o-war.

But until then...we've got to deal with overly exaggerated and unreasonable censorship.

You can't. Unless you thought he said "Kiss (as a noun here) my donkey." Seriously guys, if your trying to be clever at least put some amount of effort into it and don't just run it through the Google translator.

I won't point out all the misconceptions about Germany that have been posted by non-germans here, because I've made the experience that it doesn't change their opinion even if they get information from an actual German.

Human stupidity at its worse, and its clear that Germany is just as fascist as ever

Did you even read the article you linked to? The only thing about fascism that I can link in any way to the issue at hand is the first sentence in "Social interventionism". And guess what, there is only one form of government to which this doesn't apply: Anarchy.

My opinion on the issue: It won't happen, so there's really nothing to be worried about.

Libertarianism is what you're looking for. Essentially, the purpose of government is to protect you from others. No more, and no less.

That's actually exactly what I thought he said. "Kuss" and "Mein" are similar enough to English's "Kiss" and "My", and how many things would you ask someone to kiss as an insult? No, I didn't use a translator.

I was refering to:
Fascism comprises a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology[1][2][3][4] and a corporatist economic ideology.
In this context its their anti-videogame views I was refering to, how their trying to impose their ideology on the masses.

I didn't mean you, I meant klarr. It's obvious that he wanted to say "Kiss my ass" in German, but just ran it through the translator instead of looking it up in a dictionary. The correct literal translation would be "Küss meinen Arsch" and the analogous (is that the right word in this context?) "Leck mich am Arsch".

Like I said, any political system save of anarchy does that. America has anti-prostitution views, a policy that has been proven to raise the number of prostitutes that are forced into the business. Almost every country has views against medically assisted suicide and enforce those on their citizens.
However, those are not nationalist ideologies, so they wouldn't fall under the definition of fascism.
