I've been working out at gym a lot lately and I've realized something about myself. 1) I am a fucking sadist. I really push myself at the gym and I view pain as the goal. 2) I am perfectly willing to take up a brutal exercise routine, but I will not diet. I'll lift weights until I'm stiff and sore. I'll run until I want to die, but I won't stop eating twinkies. How about you? Do you have any weird workout regiments or odd diets?
Note: I'm actually getting good results from this plan. I've gone down 2 pants sizes and my lats are rock hard.(Those are the muscles on either side of your neck)

Well #1 isn't really a good thing, and can actually be more destructive than productive. Take regular breaks and don't overwork yourself, because it CAN cause problems. I'm not saying it will, i'm just saying, don't be reckless about your health.

Just FYI: if you enjoy pain, you're a masochist. Sadists are those people that enjoy CAUSING pain in other people.

I realized I'm a lazy douche.
I can't be bothered to lift anything that requires 2 arms, unless I have to.
I also don't each much.
As such I'm skinny, but terribly unfit.

Your routine would be defined as the ideal way of doing it. Anything less would be being lazy I suppose.

To really get the most out of working out at a gym is to push yourself till it feels like you're dying (but it's just a feeling, you wont actually die).

*EDIT: and yes, there is a need to rest to let your muscles relax.

Mind you I only do this about 3 times a week, and I rest a day between gym sessions. I'm not trying to brag, I just want to encourage discussion. Most people I talk to are willing to try any crazy diet, anything to avoid working out.

80 percent of a work out routine is diet, so for muscle you need to have a good intake to feed the muscles.

Good to hear its paying off for you!, I heard that over working can lead to burn out and stops you building muscle, I think its only if you go way way way beyond your means though.

Lats are Latissimus dorsi, the huge triangular muscle on your back, the neck muscles are called Trapezius

So you think you're all that because you've got huge neck veins? While i can congratulate you for losing weight don't be a cocky jackass about it kay?
Not trying to brag really. And I'm not talking about my neck, I'm talking about that area where your neck intersects with your shoulders.

Need to get my own ass in gear too. Starting to develop a belly here.

Ooh, it jiggles!

Well.....World of Warcraft was the reason why I put on the pounds.....so now I am in work out mode.
I have given up Soda (except maybe one from McDonalds if I'm thirsty or one at dinner) and I mainly stick to juice and unsweetened Iced Tea. My big thing exercisewise is going on my bike more often, Skidmore College is 2 seconds away from my house and there are enough hills on campus for me to get a good workout going into (I am not a runner so biking is my weight loser)
With weights though, I usually do biceps/back triceps/shoulders legs/chest and make sure I do each regiment until I am slightly fatigued but not fatigued enough that I can't do my next segment.......I usually feel it two days later

Not a biggy is it, kinda like knowing the difference people a Seal and a Sea Lion, but its nice to know.

are you doing core excersises too?, to work on the lower back, if not I recommend starting on that too since it'll sort out posture and helps out all the other muscles especially the Serratus* since it'll help with a good stomach.

*okay now I'm just showing off, I should be shunned!

I play multiplayer videogames on an elliptical. Works fine for me.

My dad had a friend that died either later in the day or while working out from pushing himself to hard. I think it might have been an aneuryism but it was defintely bench pressing close to 300lbs that did it. From what i'm reading an aneuryism could also come from just pushing yourself too hard not even going beyond your max while lifting.

Yeah i'm gonna start lifting and running again when i get out of school i just don't have the time now. I'm 5'8' and i used to be 150lbs.... while running five miles every other day, lifting every day, and playing soccer. Now i'm 135lbs i lost 15 lbs in muscle it took awhile but enough under eating, lack of excercise, and general laziness has finally done it.(and no i didn't try to do it on purpose)

I would usually run the five miles in something like 35 to 40 minutes then when i got home lift weights for an hour and a half. I didn't have much of a life outside of soccer and training for soccer. I kept lifting and running a little after soccer but when i stopped seeing results i stopped lifting as much until i didn't at all. Life got in the way of my fitness.

I like that philosophy.

I don't even have the coordination to use an elliptical to begin with.

I would like to work out, but alas, I can't get the gym membership right now, so I'm stuck playing video games and drinking soda

"A woman can be any shape she wants to be"
"What about a hexagon?"

Now with that aside, I can only think of one "wierd" habit I have, which is if I get a burger or chips or something, I can't eat it sitting down. For some strange reason, I feel compelled to walk and eat at the same time.

Okay, it doesn't matter how many people have already said this to you, it needs to be said; if you're hurting yourself by exercising, you're doing it wrong! Exercise until you're bone tired, sure, that's one of the best way to get results. But, for God's sake, don't continue with an exercise that results in any part of you being in pain, especially if that exercise includes weight lifting. Pain is your body's way of saying, "Whoa there, sonny, this shit is going to FUCK ME UP!"

If an exercise is hurting, find a way to do it that doesn't hurt. The intention is not to injure yourself. Pain is not a good signifier of progress.

Also, running about and jumping over stuff (aka, parkour) is a great way to get in shape all over. Body weights (chin ups and whatnot) are good too, as there's less chance of hurting yourself doing them. If you are lifting weights, make sure you are instructed as to their proper use.

Not trying to piss on your parade, show off or be that guy that knows everything and anything other than that way is wrong, it's just suggestion.

Lifting weights isn't that great for building muscle or losing weight, unless your throwing round an empty bar for cardio work but then there is no muscle being built.

For example, if your doing a bicep curl with a free weight as you move it you don't feel all the weight, then as you get to half way you feel all the weight and past that not so much again.

Plus, it's not very functional, it's more of a "look what I did". Most UFC fighters look rather unfit/occasional gym goer but my gawd do those guys train hard.

Try training with a resistance band or an inner tube (if your cheap, like me) as soon as you start to move there is resistance all through the movement, it's good cardio work out and gets your body used to getting rid of lactic acid.

If you use it like Vitor Belfort uses it, it makes you punch like lightning.

Watch his hand speed as he is punching his opponent (Wanderlei Silva) to the floor.
