I LOVE working out. The muscle-burn, sweat, red faced enthusiasm... great place to get out aggression. I also love red wine and chocolate...

Aaannd I have to be careful of my broken spine & healing knees. (Hockey-accident)

Iiiiiiii guess it all depends on whether or not you're being self-destructive or just self-improving. Taking a break sometimes to stretch out or just relax in the sauna is good too.

im in the same boat im a really picky eater and will not diet. A good substitute is a one a day vitamin and lots of running. if your lazy i play xbox while riding an excersize bike, or just wear ankle weights and a weighted vest or belt under your clothes. those dont even feel like your doing anything but after a week i noticed a difference

Working out is really fun! I just never get around to doing it, mostly because I did it for so long, a few years back, I no longer have a real goal, as I consider myself in pretty good shape as it is...

I'm not really sure if pushing yourself to the extreme is a good thing. I think it might actually make you more unhealthy(such as hurt muscles).

I myself tend more towards the diet end of the healthy spectrum, although I do run around and walk a lot.

Working hard is great and all but work to hard and you will ultimately do much more harm to your body than good.

I went from doing no exercise, to playing a full 90 minute soccer game last night.

I'm really sore today, plus I pulled a couple muscles while playing.

It felt really good getting back out there again, and can't wait for the next game. (Which might not be for some time now, as there is snow on the ground again.

I used to run track and cross country in high school and just track in highschool.

I ended up injuring my knees pretty badly, and quit track in favor of actually studying for my classes, while I could still walk, so I guess I score a point for rationality. Since then I haven't worked out, and it's been 2 years.

For two years now, I've stayed at the exact same weight, with a nice sexy six pack, even though I haven't done a single crunch or situp, and I eat fastfood most days. I love having a high metabolism, so I guess I'll only start exercising again once that takes a hit, or once I need for endurance to run away from zombies during the apocalypse.
Amen! Hooray for high metabolisms! I played football (both kinds) in high school and then I broke my arm the next spring. I didn't work out for nearly a year, and I haven't gained a pound... granted I did do a little bit of running and swimming. I've been eating roughly 5000 calories a day since 9th grade. Both of my parents are/were marathon runners though, so maybe I just have good genes. :D I have finally started working out again, I love the feeling it gives me.

I have a bone to pick with you, if you mean lats as in Latissimus Dorsithen you will find them halfway down your back to the sides.

Like so.

Also you should not be hurting when you work out, stiff and sore yes, but not hurting. A good judge if you have had a good workout is that you will feel it in you muscles the next day. But the attitude is good.

Coldstorage already corrected me. Also, doesn't soreness hurt?

About the same with me. I exercise a good bit, mostly free weights, but eat like shit. It's never been a problem for me, even when I didn't work out, because I play three sports and have a high metabolism. I can generally eat what I want, while maintaining an above average physique

Gah ninjas!

Anyway, soreness and pain.

If you did not know the aim of weight training is to shock the muscle. By doing this you technically injure the muscle. The problem is you only want to do so lightly, which is a problem. If done successfully the muscle will be sore, i'm sure you know the feeling. Saying that you think it feels good is not uncommon, i know exactly what you are talking about, it just feels good.

If done incorrectly you can cause serious damage to the muscle, however this is usually not the muscle you are working on. Often people use to much weight or have a bad technique that leads to injury. For example people injuring their triceps doing bench presses.

Your routine would be defined as the ideal way of doing it. Anything less would be being lazy I suppose.

To really get the most out of working out at a gym is to push yourself till it feels like you're dying (but it's just a feeling, you wont actually die).

*EDIT: and yes, there is a need to rest to let your muscles relax.
I generally support that, however, you CAN fuck yourself up REALLY BADLY by overdoing it.

Just being tired and hurting is nothing, but if you end up ripping a muscle it can be pretty bad.

And then again, if you're REALLY out of shape, it's not a good idea to go crazy on your first day.

Here's the workout I'm using to get in shape for Basic:

Pushups
Sprawls
Squats

Pushups
Flutter Kicks
Lunges

Pushups
Crunches
Squats

It's simple and remarkably effective. Arms, abs, legs, arms, abs, legs, arms, abs, legs. Do it right when getting up and right before bed, fast as you can manage, and you'll be a Terminator in weeks flat. Run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for best results.

It's the regimen my recruiter uses to stay in shape, and I'm fairly certain that any given five guys in my DEP could take him in a straight-up fight, all at once, and lose. Soundly. I've done this since mid-March, and I've become far stronger than I've ever been in my life.

It requires NO equipment, and all you have to do to shape it to your level is adjust the number of reps in each set and the distance you run.

Well no odd regimes realy, 4 day split strength/mass, 2 day cardio, sunday off. I mainly eat chicken and rice at the moment to drop my bodyfat % a bit more.

In my opinion diet isn't that big of a deal if you are just trying to lose "some" weight as long as you have a negative calorie intake (i.e you burn more calories during the workout than you eat that day) wich of course is only possible to a certain extend, a good low calorie diet makes it all easier but is not the main part...well atleast in theory that is...but seeing how many people don't have the time or motivation to train enough.

It becomes a bigger issue however if you are trying to build up and retain muscle mass while lowering fat, it isn't enough just to burn calories your muscles need the protein and iron to grow, you can eat red meat aswell wich has a lot higher myoglobin, Iron and Protein levels but since this increases your fat production aswell it isn't a great way to go if you are trying to lower your fat. You can use Protein shakes to increase your intake while cutting away the unwanted parts (like saturated fat from dairy products.

Ah well...try what works best for you and go with that.

PS: about the pain thing...yes you need to push yourself until it hurts it's those last reps when the muscle overstrains wich leads to growth if you only work until it starts to get straining you will only take baby steps (if you train just for fun or to get a bit fitter this is just fine). If it hurts more than 8 hours after the workout however you are doing something wrong you either strained the muscle to much and needs it to "repair" itself wich of course takes away nutrients that could otherwise used for growth or you should increase your creatine intake by either more protein or creatine as diatry suplement (short term) wich increases the muscle fibre growth wich of course leads to a faster recovery aswell

I've been working out at gym a lot lately and I've realized something about myself. 1) I am a fucking sadist. I really push myself at the gym and I view pain as the goal. 2) I am perfectly willing to take up a brutal exercise routine, but I will not diet. I'll lift weights until I'm stiff and sore. I'll run until I want to die, but I won't stop eating twinkies. How about you? Do you have any weird workout regiments or odd diets?
Note: I'm actually getting good results from this plan. I've gone down 2 pants sizes and my lats are rock hard.(Those are the muscles on either side of your neck)
If you aren't careful and push yourself too hard, you'll start to create microtears in your muscles fibres and you'll begin to pull and strain muscles quite easily. Be careful, and also how old are you? 17-19's about the age you should start working out. Anything earlier than that and you're likely to have structural problems later on in life from the abuse you give to your body.

I freerun with fifty-pound buckets of scratch corn in my hands, outrun and/or scare off wild turkeys, and occasionally wrestle horses bare-chested. I also enjoy salmon and fresh iceburg lettuce.

I'm dead f**king serious.

I usually just bike and walk for exercise, I guess I could use more than that, but laziness gets the best of me. Sigh.

Not trying to brag really. And I'm not talking about my neck, I'm talking about that area where your neck intersects with your shoulders.
your trapezoids? Im going to start working out full time with some combat fitness and cardio but im NOT cutting my monster

I'm similar to you in that diets and I are not exactly friends. I run every other day but I won't stop eating cookies.

As a result, my weight doesn't change, it just shuffles around a bit; however I was astonished to look in the mirror the other day and find that I have an actual shape!
