Congratulations on getting, what is in my opinion, the most finely crafted game of all time.
In all honesty, we could give you all the suggestions and tips you could ever wish for and you will inevitably end up making 3 or 4 different characters to see what you like and don't like. In terms of character builds (race, class, starsign, etc...), you're really going to have to experiment and see for yourself. But what I can tell you are a few ways to make easy money out of the starting town.
1) Steal the limeware platter in the excise office.
In the room where you finalize your character and get your "papers", there will be a bookshelf to the right of you. On this bookshelf, there is a gold platter. Take it. Immediately open your inventory and drop it. The guard will run over and give you a slap on the wrist but you won't go to jail this time. Now you can pick the platter up again and the guards won't say a word. You can sell this piece for good money at the general store in town.
2) Steal everything you can from the excise office, no matter how worthless.
Steal everything you can - forks, knives, eggs, beer... whatever. This will help you barter with the general store merchant. Each time you sell an item, no matter what its value, the disposition of the merchant will increase by 1. Sell all the cheap shit one at a time to raise his disposition and then unload your big dollar items when he'll give you the best deals.
3)Give Fargoth his ring
There is a ring in a barrel in the courtyard of the excise office. Give it to Fargoth (The first person you'll meet after exiting the excise office). Doing so will increase the trader's disposition to 90ish (unless you're an orc or another race with below average starting personality). This will help you in your quest for moneez.
4) To the northwest of town, there is a dead body with 500 gold on him and assorted clothing/weaponry of shit quality. Take everything. You can return the gold to the excise office for a mini-quest or you can just keep the gold.
That's pretty much it for Seyda Neen. Travel North a little bit and you'll witness some airborne hilarity. Sorry for the wall of text; but, if you do that stuff you'll leave Seyda Neen with 2k+ gold and everybody loves gold.
