I like the Nord... it's a good beginner's race I believe.

Also there's this...

Play it.

Edit: I'll expand on that. Just start it up and choose race, starsign, etc according to how you want to play. Don't take recommendations, just enjoy it.

well... big world. It seems like all of the Elder Scrolls games after daggerfal try to combine all the elements of the Warren Spector collective, System Shock, Thief, and Deus Ex.
they nearly hit the mark with morrowind.

I reccomend getting:
Morrowind Comes Alive
Children of Morrowind
Balmora Expansion (or what was it called again?)
Those mods make for a more fluid and living game environment.
I also suggest Farmer's Mod, although last time I played Morrowind I ended up playing only that part of the game and forgot about any main quest or stuff outside my farming empire.
Also, I reccomend playing it ;)

Let's see:
Magic kinda sucks in Morrowind, except levitation which is the best thing ever. It let's you fly, I recommend getting some boots enchanted with it so that you never have to walk again.
There are a lot more factions then in Oblivion, the only mutually exclusive ones are the great houses. In other words you can only pick one of them. Telvanni is mostly for magic users, Hlaalu is for sneaky people, and Redoran for fighters. That's just a guideline not a hard rule though, so feel free to break it.
You will get lost in Vivec, good luck with that.
You really only need 1 primary melee type, so don't pick say spears, axes, and longswords all as major skills, just choose whichever weapon type sounds best and stick with it.

I played an Imperial Crusader. Playing as an Imperial was great, everyone talks down to you like you're a second class citizen when by lore you're meant to be the 'we rule Tamriel so suck it!' race. Dunmer, the dominant race pretty much hate you and you have to work to earn their respect. I also recommend choosing a melee style class, mana doesn't regen in Morrowind as far as i know (until you wait / rest or drink potions to restore it). I found archery to be useless. Put a bunch of points into sneaking / picklocking so you can advance in the thieves' guild, as pickpocketing and picklocking people and doors can be quite profitable, especially if they're shop owners but don't sell back something to someone you took it from or they will know and call the guard. Put lots of points into restoration as resto magic helps a lot when you're a melee fighter and it can also help in advancing your way through the mages' guild. Also it helps to repair your own stuff. Join Telvanni if you're a mage. I joined Halaalu(?) but i think that's the more roguey option. Join the other house (i forgot what its called, its in a sandstormy place) if you're melee focused i think.

It may be hard for you to get into. Try printing out/following a strategy guide such as these ones

I actually killed Vivec himself on one save, hurr hurr.

Can't quite remember if that actually pissed the guards off or not though...

No you really shouldn't then. Get it for PC or don't get it at all. But that's just my opinion. I played Morrowind for more then 200 hours without mods cause I didn't even know about them. Then when I found out I played it for another 200 hours. Imagine a game that offers more then 400 hours of gameplay. You can't get that on a console. Not with a TES game anyway. I am serious. Don't buy the console version.
I just remembered how sad I was when I discovered all those slaves in Morrowind. I actually went on a quest to earn money to set them all free. That's how immersive this game is.

My computer cannot run ANYTHING. Console is the only possibility. (Note: I still play Oblivion all the time no mods)

Go ahead then. But hear me out. Buying a new PC just for a TES game is worth it. I did it for Oblivion. And since Morrowind is a better game than Oblivion then it's 100% worth buying a PC. Morrowind is not a demanding game. A $200 PC will run it on highest details.

Wait really?
Yes, really. A $200 PC really will run it at max (or at least the maximum normal settings, I dunno how it would handle the graphics-pimping plugins), and it really is worth it.
