I've not unlocked anything that suggests she would be capable of doing anything but bad swords. Her father showed her a little, then he dies so who teaches her?

I have little to no interest in this game, the first game, outside of the combat, was one of the most boring games I've ever played. I'm just in this thread seeing what people are saying about it, I doubt I'll ever play it myself.

But doesn't this game take place 200 years after the events of the first? Who is to say that grappling hook technology hasn't become common in that time? This is not a realistic depiction of ancient Japanese life.

Shadow of the Colossus summon is still the best from everything I've played. Incredibly unrealistic that the horse here always comes up from right behind you, where you just looked. Much better horse animations in Colossus too.

Old games were so good at making you continue from the checkpoint. They saved the state of the world exactly. Bothers the hell out of me that after dying I reappear from a completely other area of the battle zone than the one I entered from.

Not all the time. Somebody is definitely coping on the nostalgia goggles.

Said it in the "What are you currently playing?" thread, but there is very little density in the forests of realistic-looking games. What's the point of a million polygons on the protagonist if the wilderness has to be so barren and bland? I wouldn't even call these forests. You won't find anything denser on the island of Tsushima.

Gonna play some more later today and can't wait to explore the new open areas. Lots of red leaves.

In fact, they're REALLY liberal about where they choose to let you continue from. Placed me on a roof after I approached the situation from the ground and died. It breaks the difficulty and completely destroys any realism. I'm playing in countless different timelines.

Old mother Lady Masako is such a ridiculous character. Never mind that the number of women warriors I encountered before her was already absurd. Extent of women being trained was mostly to protect the castle as a last line, since alternative was rape and death, same as in Europe. But I'm supposed to believe this old lady wouldn't immediately get her ass kicked.

The fight happens after tailing a monk for a long time, an idea that's executed boringly in almost every game, including this one.

Lady Massako and Noriko thematically and character wise have the best side quests.

You don't know shit about actual Japanese history, so your opinions don't really count for much. And as we've seen, the Japanese audience love both of these games. Your just cynical for the sake of it, and want complain over nothing some more.

I know that the portrayal of women is very unrealistic and that the armor depicted is from three centuries later.

Congratulations, even Japan doesn't care because they're having fun with both of these games. Get over yourself. Also, historical fiction. You want 1000% accuracy, then go back to Red Dead 2.

This is neat, I guess, but I'm getting a bit of a weird feeling about all this. Like, are these games now getting made to show how cool Japan was/is, or are they actually trying to show some history of the country, warts 'n all. Yotei already side steps how the Anui were treated. And wasn't Nate Fox declared an ambassador of the island of Tsushima? If a next game does get made how will we know none of this will factor into them maybe ignoring some of the more sordid aspects of Japan's history? I mean, the Samurai as we see it in pop culture, that alone already is a huge example of that.

She was properly trained and experienced. And she is from a time where women of samurai households were generally trained in weapon even if rarely deployed. Most of the grunts she is fighting are not. That part actually works. The only issue with her story is imho how the heck her sister managed to get all those ressources for a newly to establish samurai clan. Also I don't think Masako is supposed to be all that old. She is likely in her late fourties, which is absolutely not too old for fighting.

I know that the portrayal of women is very unrealistic and that the armor depicted is from three centuries later.
Now if you want complain about that :

- Masakos armor works better for the time than many of Jins options. But yes, it is still too modern.
- This is an era where high ranked female fighters do make more sense. Tomoe Gozen died 1247, slightly more than 3 decades earlier. A women who was personal bodygurad of the shogun, fought in several battles, had duels with enemy commanders and took their heads. And while the most prominent, she is not even the only named noble female fighter of those conflicts, both side have several that made in into the Heike story, which is the most complete account of these events. And people seemingly did not find that strange.

Yes. That said, the the vacation spots were never SP's intention to begin with. That's more so Japan doing this than Sucker Punch. A reminder, the samurai aren't looked favorably in either game, and even Japanese fans don't have a problem with this.

Yotei already side steps how the Anui were treated.
I have not gotten to that point yet, so I will see for myself. Don't spoil nor say anything else.

Ok, somehow it bothers me every time i read it.

It is Ainu, not Anui.

Probably less Japan and more Hokkaido specifically. Which is rural, cold, remote and poor. It is nice for nature lovers, but otherwise they lack tourist attractions a bit.

The nephew.

The uncle.

The lack of children in these games is always bizarre.
