Frowns at his lack of statue.

Scoffs at the puny gundams.

Gigantor was the first mecha I'd ever seen. I even saw it before Power Rangers Megazord. I <3 Gigantor.

Don't you get it? They're building an army of robots, disguised as statues based on anime to keep the truth under wraps. Once they finally build the Gurren Lagann, they will take over the world.
Well, they still need to develop an engine that runs on determination, so I think we're still safe for another 50 years or so.

Most people think Transformers was created in America, but no it's Japanese. Like pretty much anything involving mecha.

I mean, it's hard to find ANY mecha from outside japan. Transformers, Japanese. Power Rangers, Japanese. Maybe straight up robots like johnny 5 or WALL-E, but no human like mecha.
It's actually (proudly) Philippine-made. The idea of Robots in Disguise was pitched by a Filipino artist at Marvel, and the comics got started. Many of you might say I'm lying, and maybe you're right, as I forgot my source (stupid memory gap!).

Hmm, here I was thinking the Escapist member Gigantor went big... somehow... maybe. What ever happened to that guy?

Wow, those are some of the worst robot designs I've ever seen.

And here I was thinking Gigantor was back. This is cool too.
Heh. So did I. Thought he finally got his own column or something, but whatever. I suppose this is cool enough to make up for my disappointment.

admittedly the first one is concept art, the final version looking closer to:

I always liked how they took cockpit very literally.

But your lack of appreciation for the Lancelot Albion makes me sad :( I'd ask if you like the Guren SEITEN [http://media.animevice.com/uploads/0/55/12396-guren_s_e_i_t_e_n__eight_elements_type_super.jpg] from the same series, but you'll probably say no too.

Welp, I'm convinced that japan is readying its elite strike force of giant robots. I'm going to go exercise my second amendment and arm myself to the tooth against this threat.

Anything I can pick up for anyone while I'm there?

Well to quote from the Wikipedia page,
"The Transformers began with the 1970s Japanese toy lines Microman and Diaclone."

Here's the link if you want to see for yourself,
