I think a lot of you are missing the point. It doesn't sound like she was a strict creationist or a racist. It sounds more like she has a persecution complex agitated by some black liberation theology. When an evolution teacher said "natural selection" or "sexual selection" she connected that to the fact that a lot of Africans and black people are in and have for a long time been in dire straits all over the world, and in her mind it seemed nature itself must have put them there.

Yes, but a lot of creationists or people who are just anti-evolution, anti-science claim evolution is an ideology based on killing people and white people being superior. I have actually been asked several times if I believe white people are superior because I think white humans come from black ancestors and accused of racism for defending evolutionary theory.
Even many people who aren't against evolution but don't really understand it think it's a process towards 'better' things, so if you say that white people evolved from black people, they take it to mean you think white people are superior.

I agree, but she didn't seem to think it was an ideology so much as a mechanism that favored some over others on seemingly arbitrary grounds. I think that's more what you're trying to say, as opposed to it being an ethos or sentient force. Either way her breakdown probably has more to do with stress and psychosis than ignorant rage over a belief.

I found it difficult to understand what she was yelling about. So, she wasn't disagreeing that evolution happens, she thought it was being unfair to black people?

That's about right. One of the quotes from the longer form of the video had her basically asking the teacher why evolution killed/left behind black people, and she used the term "raped my ancestors" when speaking to one of the students. It sounds like she saw the ecological progress of Africans as a sort of unfairness, which led to the subjugation and dehumanization of Africans and their descendants for generations. There's some truth to the "unfairness" of it, but that's the cut of the cloth. Nature is not fair. Early Africans did not grow into the imperial powers Europeans did because of the terrain and natural resources. I'm Black and I've accepted that fact.

This is actually very disquieting. The accusations of a white person "raping all her ancestors" and threatening, even if empty, to kill people for a difference in opinion? I would think that we as a species had evolved significantly enough to be more eloquent. As a culture, and as a species, we are only as good as our lowest denominator. That was it, right there.

Word on the internet is she's either part of some racist anti-white group that is really incensed about the whole Trayvon Martin situation (which is a really messed up situation, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trayvon_Martin), or she's just plain crazy and incensed about the Trayvon situation. Or she's just plain crazy.

This is what I gathered from some comments on the original video before it got taken down at least. Something about her being at at least one protest related to Trayvon, but that the protest had ties with a black panther group or something. Hell if I know. Everything in the previous is complete speculation and I am not endorsing any hypothesis here.

Recap: She got angry after not getting an answer to her question, 'How will evolution kill Black People', The professor said that this wouldn't happen, she didn't like this answer and proceeded to flip shit.

Beats all my stories of people flipping shit. There was this guy who believe that all dinosaurs were vegitarian, and when a guy showed him a book saying that the Tyrannosaurus was a meat eater. He flipped the table they were sitting at. This wasn't just a tiny table, it was one of those park benches.

Oh man, I stayed up for five days with about five hours sleep in total (sleep deprivation makes you think more sleep deprivation will make more things get done), by the last day I hallucinated fish coming out of my professor's face during physics lecture.... a pixelated goldfish. Still went to my next class, because I make great and wise decisions like that.

OT: College can cause weird stressful breakdowns, I've seen it. People get paranoid and deluded and flip a shit. It's generally because they're in an unfamiliar place, with completely new expectations, far less structure than they're used to, and no coddling. A lot of people complain their freshman year that college professors aren't fair, have ridiculous expectations (OMG I HAVE TO STUDY? This is so not fair! In high school I didn't even do homework, they shouldn't expect us to in college! [that's a quote from a girl I knew, sad as that is]) and often will tell students that their incorrect theories are, in fact, bullshit. It's particularly problematic with evolution, because if you come from a place where all of your beliefs about yourself and society are based on an incorrect interpretation (or denial of) evolutionary theory, getting told that it's wrong with either force complete re-evaluation of your outlook, or spark rage and contempt. Added on top of a new, often more liberal and varied environment, people will lash out.

I don't really understand that really, but I've seen people break down over deadlines too. Mostly young students coming directly from "high school" (or our equivalent to that). People really shouldn't go into college directly, they should experiance the cruel cruel world.

I'm kind of happy that I come from a primitive tribe that still had conscription a few years back. Being forced into the army learn me a very useful "formula" to deal with situations:

1. Will somebody die and/or be hurt?
2. Will someone loose insane amounts of money?

If the answer is "no" to both these questions, then you really shouldn't be too stressed out by it.

(I'm hard of hearing and couldnt really understand the screeching, so if she explained in it I probably missed it).

College can be extremely stressful and students flip out for all sorts of reasons. Heck, there were a few semesters during my university days where I have to plead temporary insanity for some of the horrible decisions I made under stress.

I would imagine that the girl was on the verge of a nervous breakdown and this was just a trigger event. She might have snapped just as badly if the guy siting next to her was chewing gum too loudly.

if you think college is stressful I'd hate to see how you handle actual real life

I'd take mindless work over studying most days of the week.

Real life is not as stressful as a good university, unless it's something like a high-profile lawyer or doctor. Physical labor isn't nearly as demanding as mental labor.

At first I wanted to jump to the assumption that she was one of those kinds of people who get pissed whenever people try to teach evolution, then I saw the comment about how this might relate to Treyvon--really unfortionate story. I'll stow all jokes for now with respect to the situation in Flordia.
