When this gamergirl trend started people were all over it. Now it's about finding a girl who enjoys the same genre/group of games that you do out of the masses of attention seekers.
Male here.
Male here.
Ah, I'm glad the subtlety wasn't too much. I almost gave it away but I held off in the very last second .xXxJessicaxXx said:That's like a description of me but I get away with it because I'm female! (double standards are sometimes ftw)
That reminded me of one of those old make your own adventure books. xDDreiko said:Sorry to curb your enthusiasm but we already covered that, read page three to see how this story ends.Vault101 said:snip

Like, a girl that can play a JRPG for almost 100+ hrs on one playthrough could be considered a gamer, but a "hardcore" gamer is someone that plays all the major titles that you'll probably forget about in a couple of months. Some male "gamers" call themselves that due to the fact that they play Halo or CoD religiously.
It's like, you aren't a gamer unless you put hundreds of hours into the multiplayer of the game. That's kinda why I like Yahtzee's reviews since he focuses mainly on the single player aspects.
One thing that truly irks me are those girls that feel the need to "prove themselves." Like that Mrs. Violence chick, that said something along the lines of "I'm a girl gamer, and I wanna prove that girls can play video games" on the Controller, that Battlefield 3 webseries. There are plenty of games out there, but FPSs shouldn't be the genre that make you a gamer.
Believe me, I've had so many more intense moments in Catherine and the Persona games that had my heart beating so fast due to being nervous or accomplishing something then in any "hardcore FPS."
My girlfriend is pretty poor so whenever she comes over to hang out we spend all our time playing games like Zelda or Arkham City (both of which she beat). She even beat Persona 4 before I did and I'm the one that owns it! I think it's safe to assume that she's a gamer, even with her measly 6 hrs of CoD: BlOps online playtime.
Sorry for the tl;dr essay here, but I feel like needed to get my point across. Plus, I have nothing to do at work right now, soyea.
Which is actually one of the reasons a lot of "girl gamers" identify themselves as such. Because you're never going to break a stereotype by letting yourself be marginalised.museofdoom said:Like, I feel like I don't get taken as seriously when I play online and such because I'm a girl.
Simple answer is that theyre attention whores. they just happen to be attention whores who like to play video games and they know many people still consider the concept of a girl gamer to be a rarity. i find that most girl gamers wont even make their gender knownmuseofdoom said:Has anyone else ever noticed how many girls lately seem to think they're a "special snowflake" just because they play video games? It's really prevalent on Facebook especially. Statuses like "Yes I'm a girl, and yes I play video games <3". Or "lol I'm such a nerd, playin COD text ittt." Seriously, do they expect guys to just jump all over them like the fact that they play video games makes them hot suddenly? I'm not a guy though, so I guess that's why I'm posting this. Thoughts?
