It's not a flame. Sorry, but I have never met a woman who would do anything other than run away from a man who looked like that (the same would go for guys and that girl you posted). Maybe you know some really butch women or something?

And to your hypothetical question: the thing is that Johnny Depp is portrayed as a subject and not an object.

That's the crucial difference you seem to be missing.

There's nothing wrong with beautiful men or women; what is wrong is when they have no substance and are instead used to pander to the lowest common denominator.
Both of you did NOT just insult my Orlando Bloom?

You know what I'm interested in seeing? The female lead from FFXIII. I mean, generally speaking the lead characters from Final Fantasy are different the unstoppable, muscular, uber-man you get as a lead in a lot of games. So, I'm wondering if they will characterise her differenly from the tough, unbeatable boobstravaganza you get as the support in those games? I hope so. She looks like she might be quite the female Squall which would be different and very much appreachiated.

Am I the only one who laughs at crap like this when I see it in a game? Especially Call of Duty 4 when the token black guy put on a rap CD and starts playing it. I find it funny really. I know some people don't like how some games portray women, or men even. You need to consider that a lot of games now are taking different approaches to characters.

Females in games are now more often then not portrayed a little less sexually. Look at Mirror's Edge, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Oblivion (Not counting the many user made add-ons).

Ehhh, I thought (you know, being Irish and everything) that St Patricks days was about, oooh, I dunno, the patron Saint of Ireland who brought christianity to the pagan society and changed their religion, their values against all odds and worked minor miracles? Couldn't be that, no? The parade is a celebration of that fact, not the fact that being irish is awesome. Durr.

Also, I have to agree with the fact that if it makes money, then sell sell sell.

And oh waaa, so they objectify women, what doesn't? WOMEN objectify OTHER WOMEN.

Here's a thought, why don't we females all try to be what we WANT to be, rather than getting angry over a game because we think it's trying to tell us what we should be.

OK then, what about Saint Brigid of Kildare? Saint Columba? Saint Mura? They're all patron saints of Ireland, why don't they get celebrated worldwide?

That's potentially the worst attitude you could possibly have towards this. You shouldn't have to put up with this. Even males think this is wrong, what does that tell you? This attitude is everywhere and if it keeps growing then it WILL affect younger girls in particular, they will think being treated as sex objects is fine and it really isn't.

"Hi! I'm a girl. Can I have money and items plz?"

*giggles*

.. Ahem.

I tried playing Age of Conan, but it was just ridiculous. My character had the sliders down to 0 on all fronts yet I was still a supermodel with D cups and ludicrous hips.

Saint Brigid is the patron saint of Connacht/Ulster can't-remember-the-provence-right-now, not Ireland. And Saint Patricks day is celebrated worldwide because it became a worldwide spectacle when Irish immigrants travelled to America during the famine and celebrated by, of course, getting drunk of their arses. It lost it's real meaning in the end, which was to thanks Saint Patrick for bringing Christianity to all of Ireland.

He was also the very first man to teach the word of Christ to the pagan followers of Ireland, which makes him more important than the later followers such as Saint Brigid (not saying she wasn't important, of course she was, but Patrick did it first, that's why he's the patron saint of Ireland). That was besides my point, my point was that they were saying Paddy's day is about drinking and Irish goings on.

It's not. It's about Saint Patrick. Hence the name.

Same can be said with objectifying women and all that. It's going to happen regardless of how much you might not want it too. But instead of biting the bullet or ignoring it, everyone just seems to go OMFG hot women in games are evil.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Bratz dolls because they look like sluts and give kids the wrong idea. But Bratz are aimed at kids, not women. Any mother buying Age of Conan (not aimed at kids) for their 8 year old girl should be ashamed.

Yes, games objectify women. And.....? Shall we rally? It would be pointless, and a waste of time. What would change?

Why does it make people sooooo angry? The game isn't telling you to do anything at all, it's just there, it's just boobs and ass. Some women have them, some women don't.

And what the hell do men have to do with that? "Ooooh, I want a game character to look more like real women". Why? So you can see yourself reflected in them? So men will suddenly see "real women" as much more satisfying and appealing?

They already do, no man is as cut and dried to only find the "game" woman attractive.

The argument is pointless. Games will continue to do this if women like it or not. So just run with it. Sruggling unnessecarily will only choke you harder.

Put your passion into something more substantial. A creative pursuit, helping the homeless, hell join Dove's campaign for Real Women, I did. But this shouldn't make people so angry, not something as ridiculous as pixilated boobs and ass.

It's always "too young this" and "too young that" from you now that you found out how old I am. Though I must admit, he has that John Stamos look to him.

Don't take it as an insult, I had assumed you didn't recognize him.

Most teens these days don't.

Now that you mention it, He DOES look like John Stamos.

The bottom line is... objectification is everywhere and it's not limited to gender.

I mean... how many GUYS saw "the 300" and said to themselves "I need to hit the gym"?

You could have a hero that looks like this...

girls have no problem BUT have a girl that looks like this...

and they won't stop screaming!

YES!!! The double standard is alive and well!
That is so NOT-fair!

How do men get to be like the dude on that photo? Only with chemical trash like steroids, but let's just ask then how men get to be like the dudes from 300? By training a lot, making 'm more independent, stronger, healthier, everything

How do women get to be like the lady on that photo? Plastic surgery. Making 'm more dependent, weaker, unhealthier... that's the problem, and that's why we could use a double standard

And yet it is fair!
Men shoot-up with roids for the same reason Women go under the knife. As for the gym... also the same reason.

My question is why are women letting a video game character upset them? I mean... THEY'RE NOT REAL!!!!!!!
If you're letting a game character dictate life choices to you... then there's something REALLY wrong with you.

If you want to point the finger of shame at something... point it a Pam Anderson; She makes her living off of being an object.
Not really. Steroids really only have two applications, medicine or enhancing performance in physical activity. Breast enlargement surgery is neither medical, or performance enhancing, not in sports anyway, and women undertake it for a number of reasons.

I think you might be missing the point a little though. As an example, say you were watching something and a chinese character appeared that looked and spoke like this:

Who brought this back from the dead?

I thought we'd covered all the angles pages ago!

Nevertheless, Nil makes a good point, its not what you think that hurts, its the fact that you think it.
