Gaming is a male-dominated media, and as such, games are designed with the average male in mind.
I keep hearing about this "average male." He sounds like a pretty lame guy.
He loves Mountain Dew.

Yes, I know.. but these women were affected by society into believe that this disposition is not degrading. Well, smart women in power are part of society. By being a living example their presence educates and inspires other women.
Wait,Are you saying being subservient is degrading? Though I would give you that you could argue say submissive like in S/M,However everyone every man and woman is both a mix of submissive and dominant traits so its only natural then if you think that two people who have it near the extremes would attract each other. Same way people are closer to the middle on the continuum would also attract each other.

It's like saying just because most boyfriends/husbands have there hand infront and leading there girlfriend/wife when they hold hands then all woman are submissive and all men are dominant. It's more of a issue that in humans there tends to be a natural urge to follow these rules why you can also see some women with there hand infront but it wont be all the time.

So I am not sure you can say being subservient is degrading.

P.S On the idea of women becoming more career orientated it has been argued that it is the side effect of single parent mothers having to fill a more masculine role of being a mother but also having to provide at the same time. Why also the average age of having a kid is rising as well in the west.

And you do not understand why I posed that question, Yet you continue to question my intelligence.
Your question is completely invalid though; the most famous, significant, and powerful men and women since any trace of modernity has sprung up in either the West or East haven't been sexy or muscular.

Your example works with cavemen, but please don't try to speak for the rest of humanity.
And it still has some basis if you think about it, Besides rape do you think anyone of us will sleep with anjelina jolie? No? Because there are more suitors out there that surpass you. Be it muscles or money/Power.

(Now by what I meant by women do there work by using their wits, I meant they are less aggressive and more inclined to talk it out instead of beat it out.(Unlike men.)

But I think the argument is that those beliefs are cultural based and not ingrained into humans some would say at birth.

/sigh

It's back AGAIN...

How many time do we have to collectively stomp on this beast's neck before it finally pops it clogs?

Videogames =/= Real Life. Deal with it.

Videogames are a collection of fantasies, dreams and ideas of the developers/writers/whoever else put into an available medium, and if you don't agree with those, good for you.
The overwashing of this debate, if it can even can be called such at this point, is making the fabric of reason/logic loosen and fall away.
I could spout some statistics/facts about the supposed chemical differences in male and female brais leading to their differing abilities to push coloured buttons at a specified time, but I'm just too darn tired. Really, if you don't like the way the game is, don't buy it.

i feel this doesn't warrant the walls of text that it gets whenever it decides to rear its head and cast its shadow over The Escapist...

No offence meant to the OP, I'm just REALLY tired of seeing this come up

Not intergrated at birth? You must have been a solo child, At a young age I had more violent tendency then emotional ones.(Besides anger.) and so did most of the boys around me. And that peruses on.

Here's some interesting results from evo. psychology for all those naive boys who think girls are hardwired to approach sex and sexuality in the same exact way as their male adolescent minds are:

When asked to rate the number 1 thing that matters to them in the opposite sex, men pick body weight (read: appearance).

And when asked to rate the number 1 thing that matters to them in the opposite sex, women pick intelligence.
But like I have said it is all just cultural based, Kids as young as 1 day old are taught to be either masculine or femmine in our culture.

Not to mention kids lack the ability to think outside the box why in studies you find when asked ,"If you had a thrid eye where would you put it?" they all say ,"on your head" that is where they have learned eyes go,where if you go into the teens and adults you find the common answer is "back of your head" So I am not to sure how much faith you can put into that theory.

Oh, and Bulletinmybrain, can you explain this?

How I would explain that? There are two ways going about it. The guy is probably a physiologist and she could be a patient and hes getting a photo taken.

Another one which you probably love to hear, She picked him because hes probably got quite a big stack of money.(See, Trophy Housewives.)

True but that is because we teach boys to be like that, From the moment you are born we teach you as a society how to act. A example is to take a baby wrap them in a pink blanket and everyone will comment about how gentle and cute she looks, Now take that same baby wrap it in a blue blanket and everyone will say how strong his grip is.

Why as you grow up you give girls different toys then you do boys,Why also for the longest time gaming was more of a male dominated area as most boys got games for there birthdays and girls would end up with clothes and dolls etc.. It is just something you learn from the moment you are born because other then learned behaviors at age 6 there is no hormones yet to really make a effect of all girls act like this and all boys act like this.

It's just learned cultural behavior. Why in some cultures the girls are just as active as the boys at age 6 and display what you think as "man" traits.

That's strange, I've always been a very passive and peaceful person, even from birth, and I have arms bigger than the waists of most of the nerds on this site.
You were so fat from birth you coudn't get out of bed, Let alone reach a hand out to ***** smack another person?

Eh, You say culturally creation tendency, And I am going to say its integrated from birth.

Until either of us find exact proof we can agree to disagree.

Alyx Vance is awesome, but what about Alexandra Roivas?

Did you guys also notice that the exceptions have all been from Western game developers thus far? That's hilarious.
Well, if you want a Japanese exception, I guess Myrl Silverburgh would count. but your point still stands anyway, most video games with these stereotypes of the female body are from Japan and they have a very different culture from us.

You're absolutely right about the importance of culture, but even culture is modulated by our evolutionary psychology. In more cultures than not, both ancient and modern, this sexual dichotomy holds true.
The only thing I would think is fishy(maybe it is answered?)in Evo Pysch is that, Men would be attracted to bigger girls not fat but not skinny like how most western culture suggests. If only on the idea males and females would both be looking for a mate that is healthy and nourished enough to have healthy offspring.

P.S I consider Japan western on the idea of it being heavily westernized.
